Goodbye Cruel Mobile You Are Not My Friend Anymore

Well I am finally saying goodbye to my mobile phone! It's no good I can't have it any more, we have to part, it is time to say goodbye! Alas poor mobile I knew him so well and now I'm turning my back! Ok drama over! I am a fool I know but I have a contract phone and the monthly cost is crippling me and I hardly ever use it, well just for texts and for when I am driving in case of emergencies, like breaking down etc, I get free texts and free calls every month and I don't even use a tenth of my free allowance, so why am I spending what I see as a fortune each month? So I rang up the company who I am with 3 and gave them a month's notice my year's contract is up and on 13th February I will be without a mobile. I will of course get a pay as you go one but will only use it for emergencies but I have worked out that I will save £35 or $60 a month by NOT having my mobile, that's without VAT and extra calls on top if I make calls to mobiles which is not covered by my free allotted minutes! So I will be without a phone until I get a new one but do you know something I certainly won't be rushing out to get one. I actually find mobile phones intrusive and boy do I hate it when I am on a train for example and someone is talking full volume about what they get up to! Besides I'm hopeless with gadgets and to me a blue tooth is something you get out of whale or shark's mouth, so any latest Nokia model is wasted on me! So could you throw away your mobile and live without it?

I have to say that I could not live with out my cell phone. I use it for my business, weekly phone conferences, to keep in touch with my family, my son is austic and if there is an emergency at school - they need to be able to reach me, I also am on the road and need it to keep in contact with my family so my husband does not worry so much. I could not use it without my blue tooth either. I like having my hands free to multi-task. But don't worry, I'm not rude when I am on it. If I am checking out, ordering or in a restaurant I don't use it.

Thank you for your response, hands free is essential in this country as it is illegal to drive whilst using a mobile phone.

Oh heck yes Wolfie, I have a pay as you go for when I am out on the road, and even at that I put little money into the account. They are handy when you are away from home for certain things, but heck I hardly ever even turn mine on. I hate the dang house phone ringing, why do I want to be bothered 24/7 with a phone ringing.. Yup toss it into the sea....

I hate the phone ringing too, it used to set me on edge as I never know if it was my damn ex! I could happily live without a phone apart from emergencies x

do you have your land line still? I don't use my land line anymore, because it cost $15 per month even if I didn't use it. I use cell phone only for all of my calls. It is not worth if you don't use it.

We still have the landline for the internet, you need a landline to be able to have the internet, but no one calls me on it and I have sales calls banned. I will get a cheap one just for emergencies

NO, no,no,no,no!!! Blue tooth is wonderful sweety how can you not use it? lol If I leave the house without my mobile I panic, big style! Then again we have needed it to call the AA recently, I need to make sure that if there are any problems with my kids or my gran then I can be contacted and with the way my health and back are I need to get help if I need it! I know it sounds as though I am trying to justify things and I guess I am but it is true! I have tried to cut back my bills in the past too by cancelling my contract but they always give me more free time and an even better phone for the same money and I just haven't been able to walk away. Couldn't you get a pay as you go sim card to put in your phone? I know my other half has done that - you even get to keep the same number? Love and Hugs xxx

Sadly my phone is not compatible, I am looking out for a pay-as-you-go phone, I like Nokia the best as I've always used them and they are so easy to use even for a wolfie. I no longer have my phone now but you know where I am and as soon as I am connected I will text you xxxxxxxxx Off to be a bad wolf tomorrow night again! Those Wonderful Fortnightly saturdays come round quick xxxx

Hello wolfie34 Well for me -- I can't live without my cell -- it's a necessity -- it's hard to take up my call in the rush areas but still I manage .. I have to handle my customers via phone and so I can't think that I can manage them without cell. Reading your post -- it seem to me like you think -- mobile is a wastage -- but for me -- it is not -- though I don't use it much -- it has incoming free for life and I don't have the need to recharge it. I recharge it only when there is some great scheme -- and sometimes I do wait for 3 - 4 months for a good scheme to come up.

Uhm....I am so used to mine now that I could not be without it. They are different n Italy as far as cost goes and much cheaperto use than in UK. I have three, onefor each of three of the four mobile companies that we have here. Don't get me wrong, I am not on the phone all the time lol butitis niceto be able to use the phone wherever and whenever I need to. I also have a land line for internet and I do some phone work from home which involves callingcompanies abroad using my mother tongue of English (wellpaid here lol) and for that reason I can make almost free calls abroad on my land line because I pay a flat rate of about £7 a month and can use it as much as I like with no extra costs and that's excellent for calling mother in UK and sister in USA and .... if I had your number your's might ring sometime too lol.

I don't blame you lol. I haven't got one either. It's not as if anyone is going to phone me anyway. I also find it a menace to pay extra for something I don't need lol. I had to come onto Mylot a bit because if I write another casinon review my head will blow up lol. I have another twenty to do lol!! But it is money and at the moment I need it. Anyway I will celebrate with you the parting of your mobile and remember me in your prayers.

I sure could throw my mobile phone away, and be quite happy living without it wolfie, and I think you've made a good decision! We managed before, didn't we? Mine is pre-paid but I hardly ever use it to make calls - I mostly use it for receiving calls and texts from my kids, or if I'm out on my own my hubby likes me to take it for emergencies. I honestly don't think I will get another one. Good for you saying goodbye to yours!

You can count me among those who have no liking for cell phones, wolfie, simply because, as you say, I find them very intrusive. I have owned them twice before(and found them to be virtually useless). While I'll admit they do have their usefulness, in certain situations, I think they are overused and invasive. To me they are another example of what the media has convinced us we cannot live without. Of course we can live without cell phones. They are, after all, a recently modern invention. I have a problem with people being able to contact me whenever or wherever I happen to be. It is at least an invasion of my privacy. My friend usually takes me around whenever I need to go out for some reason, and I find it vastly annoying that her s/o is "tracking" her movements every ten minutes while we are out and about. She even says it gets on her nerves, so I don't know how she puts up with it.
