Anyone else fasting for Ash Wednesday?

Since my priest put the exact description of fasting in our bulletin last week, I have decided to give it an honest shot today. It is 4:00pm and so far all I have had today is a Slimfast shake (which is not food but liquid) and a toasted English Muffin... and tea and water. We are allowed to eat one large meal and two snacks and any liquids (non-alcoholic)... and no meat (beast or fowl). The no meat is to be followed every Friday during Lent and the fasting Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Obviously I am waiting for dinner time to have my main meal, but we are undecided as to what to have that is not meat. The kids don't like fish. Is cheese pizza okay? LOL! However, I am freakin' starving! I want a dang Tootsie Roll or peanut butter granola bar! LOL! Is anyone else fasting? How are you doing?

I used too. When I was younger and my grandmother was still alive. I have no choice but to fast because there is no food. And eventually I got so used to it that I felt guilty when I do eat. Then, I started using fasting as an excuse to lose weight. Now, I don't fast anymore and it's weird that I don't even feel guilty about it. Maybe I'm what they call a backsliding catholic I guess

I didn't quite make it through the whole day Ash Wednesday. Though it doesn't consist of 100% fasting (one meal and two snack-size meals and liquids) I didn't quite make it until midnight. I do feel guilty, though, when I snack at night, because I know I'm not supposed to.

I tried fasting before during ash wednesday, since Im catholic, but I end up into eating meat, because Im so hungry I dont like fish also and vegetable.I decided not to do fasting If I can't do this.Maybe because I usually eat morethan 3times a day thats why fasting is not working with me.

Since I have now been diagnosed as hypoglycaemic, I will not be trying the fasting again. That was my one and only time and I didn't make it until midnight. I caved at about 11:15 pm. But now I have to eat several small meals a day in an effort to ward of Diabetes (which is rampant in my father's side of the family). No more fasting for me.

I've never fasted mostly because I don't think it's healthy for me. If I go that long without eating a real meal, I feel weak and dizzy. I never thought of drinking slim fast though. That is a good way to get some real protein while you fast. Also, as a vegetarian, it's not too hard to give up meat :-D I always laugh at my family and friends and coworkers when they WHINE about giving up meat for just one day a week! I tell them it's not that hard and they act like I don't know... but I'm a vegetarian by choice, not because I don't like meat, so I do know it's not that hard. I bet you were only starving b/c you were thinking about it too much. There have been days where all I had was a banana in the morning and lots of water, then I was so busy all day that I never got around to eating, then suddenly it was like 8pm and I realized I was hungry! So since I didn't concentrate on it all day, it didn't even phase me. But when I do think about it, that's when I constantly feel hungry.

Well, I have now been diagnosed as hypoglycaemic, which explains why I get the shakes when I am hungry... AND why I am hungry all the time. That was my first and last try at fasting. I sure as heck don't want to end out like Amanda on Big Brother.

A veggie pizza is also good. the Orthodox church thinks cheese is in there, but Lordy they have some strange rules!

I'm baptist and we do not fast and we can eat meats on Fridays during lent season. If we had to fast I don't think I would make it. But around here on Fridays during lent season it is hard to find any seafood. I think Cheese pizza is okay as long as there is no meat in there. Do your kids like any other seafoods such as shrimp. Maybe you can make some kind of shrimp alfredo.

My kids rebel against any kind of seafood actually. My husband is going to make Kraft Dinner for them and himself. I am very involved with the church now and went to Mass this morning (actually, I was reading at Mass) so I thought I would actually make an attempt at fasting. I am 45 years old and this is the first time I have ever tried it, but then I never knew the rules before. I'm hoping God will bless me for doing this, not that I'm not already blessed. LOL!

I was raised catholic but I quickly abandoned the whole lent thing as soon as I moved out of my moms house. Just because people did it back in Jesus's time doesn't mean it is right for the people of today. And I don't think I am committing some mortal sin for having a cheese burger on Fridays or eating on Ash Wednesday.
