tempur pillows - are they really good?

i recently shifted and changed all my pillows. however, it seems that it's not that easy finding a good pillow. i tried feather down, foam, cotton and even buckwheat hull. none really gives me a good night sleep. i've been waking up with slight neck ache. somedays i wake up with the headache on the side of my head for the whole day! chance upon the tempur pillow and was thinking to myself - is it really good. it's not cheap compared to other pillows. for the price of one tempur, i can buy all the pillows mentioned above and still have spare change. any users care to share their experience before i dive in for one? thanks so much.

Well, when I go shopping for pillows, I will always dress casual enough to be able to lie down and try the pillow. Best places to try pillows are at Robinson and Takashimaya. I have also tried various pillows from all the various brands and finally settled for a microgel one. I have tried the pillow from Tempur. Personally I do not like it. The sinking feeling of my head whenever I lie on the memory foam pillow, just turns me off. Especially when I already have a headache, the slow jerky feeling of the head settling down on the pillow is just too much for me to bear. Even after the head has settled, when you turn to your side, the whole process repeats itself. There are people who swear by Tempur. But I am not a big fan of memory foam, be it pillow or mattresses. Takashimaya at Orchard has a whole range of neck support pillows from Tempur that you can try out on. Dress in a loose comfortable T-shirt and a pair of comfy jeans when you go down to try the pillows. Then you will be able to judge for yourself if Tempur pillows are for you or not.

Hmm...If I am not wrong, the brand should be snow. They come in varying firmness. I tried the pillows for like at least 20 minutes each to ensure that I am comfortable with them before I bought them. Bought them from Robinsons. The personnel there are extremely patient and wonderful when we were fussing about which pillow to buy. Try all you want then decide before buying. ;)

i'll keep that brand in mind when i go pillow shopping. robinsons is one of my favourite stores but i'm a little 'afraid' of their bedding section. the last time i went we felt like preys being surrounded by vultures! all of them were standing there looking at us. the moment we stop moving the nearest one swopped in. it's a rather stressful experience for me as i'm not skilled at the art of saying 'no'. maybe i should go during a sale weekend. with more shoppers maybe it won't be so bad. :p

You know what?! I bought a friggin pillow, that cost me $130.00, that was the biggest piece of s**T, I ever purchased in my life! I have problems with pillow too. (Headache and all). I usually buy feather pillows, cut them open, take out some feathers, then sow them back up. That's the only thing I can do to avoid all the bad things that accompany a new pillow. Gheez! Can't sleep on any hotel pillow at all, gotta bring my whimpy ,lame, feathered pillow. If you figure sumpin out, could you let me know? I feel like you do......... :o) Marilyn

oh dear that sounds just like me. think the difference is i can't sleep on pillows that are too flat. the more bulk the better for me. while you are just the direct opposite of me. have you tried buckwheat hull pillows? you can adjust the amount of buckwheat hull inside the pillow. my partner got one and he say it's really not too bad. just that it doesn't work for me. you bought a tempur but it didn't work?

Isn't the buckwheat stuff kind of noisy? I always thought when you laid down on one of those you could hear that stuff moving around. Yes, the tempur-pedic pillow works......... :o)

hmm i didn't really notice the sound of the hull moving. now that you mentioned i'd say there's some noise but not noticeable. thing about buckwheat hull pillows is they don't maintain the shape. i'd plumb it up really nicely before i sleep but the hull will just move around when i sleep. so when i wake up i'd see the shape of my head. the place where i lay my head is sunken while the hull moved to the corners of the pillow. so tempur works afterall, maybe i should get myself one of them too. thanks for sharing :)

YES they are good, but you have to try it out at the store to be sure you will like it. You may want two pillows, a tempur pedic AND a regular pillow. Sometimes the tempur material is the only thing that will truley let your head and neck relax, other times I find I'd rather a regular pillow. I bought my dad the regular tempur pillw (the one where the neck part is bigger than the head part), but I personally love the tempur pillows that LOOK and are SHAPED like regular pillows. The one I like is the Comfort Pillow but I see on the site there are many more options now. Yes it is pricy, and unfortunately I've never seen the prices change EVER! I can't believe there is never a sale or anything on tempur pillows at the stores I shop at. Just be careful not to spill anything on it b/c I've heard they can get ruined if they get soaked with liquid.

guess a trip down to the store cannot be avoided. i've got tons of pillows at home, all tried and 'discarded' coz they simply don't give me good support. think i should not really discard them yet since a regular pillow might come in handy at certain times. thanks for the heads up, or i'd have thrown them away. and i'd take care not to wet the pillow if i get one eventually. there was a sale recently in singapore on certain tempur pillows but i missed it. now i wished i had gone down no matter what.

i have a really great simmons pillow called Deepsleep. it really propels me into deep sleep. personally when I was deciding on beds and pillows i came across tempur but wasn't convinced to invest in it. it's this whole memory foam technology but I think it tends to sag after a while. and my simmons pillow is the best I've ever slept on, so I'd recommend that.

that sounds so interesting using chrysanthemum for pillows. i've tried using tea leaves as pillow fillings when i was much younger. guess my body was more flexible then. no headache or neck ache or whatever ache. or maybe the tea leaves are really doing good for my sleep. think if nothing in the market works, i'll have to revert to tea leave-pillows to try it out. it's no joke waking up even more tired than before sleeping. what kind of traditional medicine does the pillows contain? so curious as to what other things can be used as pillow fillings. cheers :)

I have a Sensafoam pillow. It costs about $80. I love it. I take it EVERYWHERE with me and can not sleep without it. I've never tried any other type of memory foam pillows so I can't compare it. However I did lie on a tempur mattress once and thought it was pretty hard and nothing like my pillow.

i've not come across sensafoam in my pillow search. maybe i've missed it but more likely it's not available in singapore. i have tried lying on a tempur mattress and i kinda liked the feeling. it's not too hard for me but yet gives me some support. but i didn't get to lie on it for long as i wasn't really looking for a mattress at that time. maybe i should try and go lie on one again to get a better feel. hmm bringing your pillow everywhere you go is really interesting. you mean you really pack it into your luggage and bring it along for holidays? thanks for sharing :D

I can't sleep with any other pillows now that I have this one, so yes I shove it into my luggage every time I sleep somewhere other than home. Its the only way I can get a good nights sleep.

I have a memory foam pillow that is much cheaper and I think it does about the same thing. My husband sells it among other Innovage products for only $15. I don't know what stores might have them where you are. Here in the U.S. Walgreen's carry alot of their products. The only problem I found with the memory foam pillows is that they are a bit smaller than I like.

i was tempted to go for memory foam pillows from other manufacturers. but it seems that it sags really fast. that would mean i'll go through a pillow every other year. here in singapore i've not seen any of the Innovage products. but then again our market is so small that not many will want to introduce their product here. maybe i'll go online and see if they do shipping to singapore or not. thanks for the information lucy02. :)

Try sleeping without the pillow. Maybe it will take a few days while you will be able to fall asleep. I tried it last summer. The better solution I found was holding the pillow in my hand (like when you are sleeping with someone :)) and my head was directly on the bed. Now I am able to fall asleep with or without a pillow and I have no headache on the mornings. Are you doing some sport ? If not, just do it ... Maybe your problems are connected with neck muscle weakness.

thanks for the kind advices and suggestions. i'm not really into sports though i do walking everyday. i can sleep holding the pillow as i have poor blood circulation. when my arms are pressured the pain will wake me up. but i'll try the sleeping without pillow part. who knows? it might be the answer to all my woes. cheers ;)

I love the tempurpedic brand pillows...love love love them. When I go elsewhere and sleep on any other pillow, I end up with a neck ache. Recently, I bought a knock off at IKEA--super cheap, like 2.50 and they are stiffer but I like them as well. These really seem to suppport my neck correctly.

good to hear some rave reviews about the pillow. was initially worried since no one seem to like them too much. you mean ikea has memory foam pillows for sale as well? guess it's time for me to check out the local ikea near my home too. wouldn't mean the slight stiffness if the price is so much different. thanks so much for the heads up. good to be able to save some money in times like this. :D
