So how big...?

I never really cared for 'comparing' children so this is more just for curiousities sake. Babies come in all shapes and sizes and as long as they're healthy the other stuff doesn't matter.... But I am curious to see how big other babies are. My youngest seems normal sized to me but falls in the 10th percentile for weight and height...and so his doctor said he's small and short but perfectly fine for him. So here are his stats...he was born at 7 pounds 5 ounces and 18 inches long (I know that's on the short side but he was two weeks early). Now he's 15 1/2 months old and weighs 21 pounds 8 ounces and is 30 1/4 inches tall. So how do all your babies compare? (and I say 'compare' very loosely, this isn't a "my baby iss better than yours" discussion lol)

My daughter was 7 lbs 1oz when she was born and 17 ins long. She was born on her due date. She is still very tiny but also very healthy. She is 2 and a half years old now. My youngest son was 3 days early, weighed 8lbs 10oz and 19 ins long. He is 17 months old and taller and a bigger build than his sister!!! I sometimes laugh when I see them side by side because even though she is so small in comparision she is well able for him when he annoys her!!!! :-)

My middle boys are almost like that. They are just over 2 years apart but the younger one is almost as big as the older one. A year ago when they hed just turned 4 and 2 they actually weighed exactly the same....but they older one can still hold his own when little brother acts up!

Cadence was born 6lbs 2oz, and was 20.9 inches tall. She was SKINNY and LONG. she is still that way, but healthy. I dont remember what she was at 15 months.. i dont have that written down, but i have the 12 months ones, which are 29.5 inches and 19 lbs, and at 18 months she was 31.25 inches, and weighed 21lbs.. You are right all babies are different sizes and shapes, but they sure are all cute!! lol well most of them! *smiles*

Nicholas at 15 months - A little racer already!
Sounds like she was pretty close to where mine is...yeah I know boys are "supposed" to be a little bigger than girls but I doubt it's really that big of a difference at these ages. You know, most babies are really cute but it's so hard to react when you see that rare not so cute baby... I hope now is an ok time to include the picture I forgot to post when I started this!

My children were a good size when they were born. Two of my children weighed close to 10 pounds and were 21 1/2 inches long. the smallest of the three was my middle son at 8.5 and 20 inches long. The two oldest slowed down in growing as they were average size, The baby was on the 95th and 97th for height and weight for years, now he is the smallest in size but not height he is 5' 11 where the oldest is 5' 10 1/2 and the one that was born the smallest is over 6'1. You just can't tell how they will grow or how big they will get.

Wow...those are big babies! My biggest was 8 pounds 8 ounces and 21 inches long...he's going on 3 now, I don't know his percentiles but I'm sure they're pretty high. And then my oldest who was my smallest baby (under 6 1/2 pounds)ended up high in the percentiles too while my other 8 pounder has always been on the small side! You just never can tell!

My older was 2.75Kg when he was born and was always a small baby...he always fell to the lower end of the normal. He's 7 years now and still one of the shorter ones in class (not to mention skinny). My younger one was born at 2.5kg...but gained weight pretty fast and he's always been at the top end of the normal chart. In fact, he still is at 15 and a half months. He's tall for his age and slightly on the heavy side too (still within the normal Indian standards though).

I forgot to mention that my older was born 3 weeks before his due date...and my younger was full term. Funny how the second weighed less than my older at birth...and he seems to be the bigger one. I'm just glad I have healthy active kids.

My daughter was born at 8lbs 1oz, 21 and a half inches long. And for me only weighing 140 at the time that was a huge baby! :) She is now 4 and barely weighs 35 lbs. And stands about 3 and a half feet tall. Im not really sure on that. Shes quite tall though I think but her weight is to low. They keep saying she weighs less then what shes suppose to but she might take after me in my weight. I was always very thin.

That's about how it was with me and both of my 8 pounders too...actually I think I was only 130-135 with my now 5 year old because I was horribly sick for most of the pregnancy. He still managed a solid 8 pounds 4 ounces one day early (today is his birthday!) and all I had left of a belly immediately was some loose skin. But now he's really small...I'm not sure exactly what his height is but he only weighs 37 pounds. But obviously I'm small and his dad was a big baby/small kid too so I think t's just the genes.

My son was born 6lbs 8oz and 19 3/4", he was 2 wks early also. He was always on the lower percentile for his weight, but on the higher end with his height. Now my daughter is a different story, she was 6wks early and weighted 3lbs 10.8oz and 16". She is now 4 months old and almost 9lbs.......I'm not sure of her length.

Five pounds in 4 months sounds pretty good to me! My youngest daught was the same size as your son except just a little shourter and she has also always been on the low end in weight and higher end on height.

What you quoted seems about average. My son was 8lbs even and 20 inches long when he was born. My daughter was right behind him at 7lbs 9.6oz, I forget how long she was. But I wouldn't worry too much about your son being small. You are right, as long as he's got ten fingers and ten toes and is healthy, there is nothing to worry about. My uncle was a preemie when he was born, but you'd never know that to look at him now. He was short and underweight when he was born too. But now, at 40, he is 6'5" and over 200lbs. You never know how a child will turn out as they get older. So just take care of your son, feed him right, love him always. He will be fine.

I thought it seemed average too and it's been good to hear that from other parents too. I think those growth charts still aren't very accurate...10th percentile sounds so small but there are so many factors that determine how big a baby is and is supposed to be.

I have the opposite of you. I have a very healthy, big boy. He was 8 lbs 12 ozs and 21.5 inches at birth and at his two month check-up he weighed 16 lbs and was 26 inches long. Almost as much as your 15 month old! He is not overweight, just an overachiever. LOL The doctor said his proportions were perfect. He is just a little bigger than most babies his age. He is four months old now. I know he hasn't gained much since then because he is so active. We find out for sure next week at his four month check-up.

My first son was born at 6lbs 7oz 19 in long. He was always a little short when he went to the doctor. He will be 8 in may and he is growing, growing, growing! Now my second one was born 5 weeks early and only weighed 3lbs 7oz 16 in long. He will be 3 in July and he is alittle squirt! lol. He's catching up although is skinny. He has an appetite though so no doubt in my mind that he will end up being tall like dad.

Aww...I bet they're both cuties! That's the other thing with mine...their dad was a "late bloomer", he was small throughout childhood and at age 16 was still only 5'3" and 120 pounds but then he shot up 6 inches by the time he was 18 and another inch after that. He ended up at 160 pounds for years until he hit 40 and chunked up...now he's nearly 200!

My oldest daughter was 5lb4oz and 19in. when she was born now (at 28) she is 5ft.5in. My second daughter was 8lb. 1oz. and 18in long she is now (at 26) 5ft 3in. My son was 22in. and 8lb2oz. He is now 13y/o and he is now 5ft. 4.5in.tall and weighs in at 121lbs. My 12 y/o was 7lbs.9oz. and was 19.5in. he is now 5ft. 1.25in. and weighs 127lbs. The boys doctor says that they are both going to be well over 6ft. Their sisters HATE that they are already starting to tower over them, i am 5ft 6in so it won't be long before they are also taller than me and their Dad (he is about 5ft 7in.). My father and my husbands dad was over 6ft.

My son was born 6lbs 11oz and 19 1/4in long. He was small for his age for the first 4 months, then he just exploded! He is 95% in height now, he's about 3 feet tall, and he turns two in just a few days. He's bigger than most 3 year old. He started off small, and decided he had a lot of making up to do!
