Do you say goodbye before you hang up the phone?

I always say good bye, see you later or at least acknowledge the end of the conversation. I have noticed working with customers on the phone that some people just hang up when they figure the conversation is over. I think it is only polite to say goodbye. How do you finish your calls?

For family, it usually...love you, bye. girlfriends, talk to ya later, take care guyfriends, ciao, adios, au revoir Clients, Have a great day Telemarketers...I'm on the Do Not Call list...wink Many people have become quite ignorant with all of the new ways to communicate without even actually speaking to one another. It's quite sad, actually.

I hate calling a business then having to figure out how to get through to a live person. I miss the old times where people had phone etiquette and when you called a business a real person came on the line.

I always say good bye. When people don't, it just seems so strange, like were they really done talking or what? Without the good bye or see you later or talk to you later, it doesn't seem like the phone call really ended.

I hate it when people do that! I always say "bye" or "see ya" or something. Now, my mom has started hanging up on people, but I think that's because of the advancing dementia

I'm not saying I don't understand and I sure can't get mad at her for doing so, but it can be pretty frustrating when you're not done talking to her and she hangs up!

I'm sorry to hear she has dementia that is a terrible thing to live with. I can understand and forgive people living with that for not saying goodbye.

You know where I've noticed this stuff on TV shows lately. The person is having a conversation on the phone or cell phone and they stop talking and hang up without saying goodbye. It gets to me every time I see it, and even though it's a only show I think "how did the person on the other end know you were done talking!!!". I always say something to end the call.

I haven't noticed that on TV but now that you mention it I will probably notice a lot of it.

I usually do with a goodbye...or 'Later' or something that implies that the call is over. But my dad just finishes the conversation and hangs up (only with us family). He figures that we would know that the conversation has ended.

Happy St Patrick's Day to you to. I think I love you is a nice thing to sign off with you never know when it may be the last time. That was a morbid thought wasn't it?

Yes, I always say goodbye, or at least bye to the person. That way we know the conversation is over and done. Just today when I called to order a pizza I said bye to the employee on the other end of the line and they hung up without saying it back. I thought it was a little rude, but blew it off as it wasn't really necessary for him to do so as I already said it. Oh well, at least the pizza was good!

As long as the pizza was good I suppose you can forgive the employee.

I've thought that before too good bye is kind of final. I prefer see you later even if you know it really is goodbye.

I always say goodbye and usually thank you to acknowledge the end of a conversation If they have done me a favor I always say thank you. I have had some people just hang up and thats so disconcerting as you do not feel like its ended yet it has of course. When I am dealing with business people I only feel its their just due to be thanked when they have helped me in some way. I even say thanks to the bus driver when leaving so sue me.
