Ok about 6 months ago our normal wal-mart went to a super walmart and once it did that. I noticed everything there went up in price that includes food.. I've always gone to the town over to get my food when shopping cause it was 10 times cheaper.. Now when I go to wal-mart to do some food shopping I am paying more for food and things I need... Do you find that the same.. Super Wal-marts are more expensive?

What do you mean by Super Walmarts? Are they the ones that have the food and are open 24/7? We don't have many in Manitoba, Canada. We only have one that is open 24/7 but that one is exactly like the other ones that we have. I have noticed some good prices in there but then there are stuff in there that you can get cheaper at a different outlet. I have noticed since the American Dollar and the Canadian Dollar have pretty much parred on several occasions that some of the prices are going down for us.

Yeah, Super Walmart is the one that's a grocery store/regular store combination, and they're ALWAYS open. They only close once a year, for Christmas. It's a full grocery store, like Ingles or Publix or Kroger, and a full shopping store, like KMart, Target, Goody's, Belk, you get the picture. I hate Walmart in any variety.

Right what she said... lol I am really not liking wal-mart either.. I think they are just wasting to much money to build these to what though raise prices on everything so people can't afford to go to it anymore... Next store?

Thanks for the update. I for one don't really shop there unless I see something in the flyer that I need or that I want that is reasonably priced. Don't go there too often. Once in a blue moon. I rather go to a store that has great prices and offers something of intrest to me. I found that Canadian Tire is pretty much the same as Walmart. But does not carry food. Which is not a big deal to me. But the stuff that Canadian Tire has more durable things than Walmart. I'm sure that you don't have Canadian Tire. I think it's only a Canadian Store.

Here's the deal..my husband actually told me a few years ago that Walmart has the lowest prices because they are going to put every other store out of buisness and the only place left to shop is going to be Walmart...and that's when they will raise the prices skyhigh. It seems they may be doing this now.?? Has anyone heard of this?

I don't know if that is true or not... Knowing Walmart they are going to try what ever they can to do that.. I never shopped at other stores cause they were high in price on things... Now when I go shopping I look and see I can get them much cheaper say at Target or other stores like that..Exact same thing brand and all...

I have always shopped at a Super Walmart because that is all we have in our area. I have noticed their prices are very high on everything these days too though. I used to be able to shop there and buy alot of things. now I spend more and come out with less items.

I know that when our Walmart went to a super walmart, the prices were really low on food. Only after about 3 weeks, they raised them and they keep getting higher. It is better for me to go to the local grocery store where they will double my coupons instead of going to walmart.

yup I agree. I don't think you can even use coupons at wal-mart cause they claim they are low low prices... Let me think here a minute i just went easter shopping and spent almost 50.00 in easter candy.. I could of went to my local store the same candy on sale and could of save 20.00 on the exact same thing...

Personally, I think that all of the Waltons are involved with the AntiChrist. So are Hilary and Barack. I have some really great conspiracy theories, and a few of them include WalMart. ^_^ I have ranted on and on about Super Walmart. I shop at Ingles and Target instead of SuperWalmart. I may pay a little more, after factoring in gas and a few cents here and there, but it's worth it to me. I pay more, shop at 2 different places in the same "grocery" trip, and use more gas, but I no longer have panic attacks in the middle of the store, and I'm no longer cranky as hell when I get home. I get my food at Ingles, and my cleaning supplies, shampoo, deodorant, clothes, etc. at Target. It's just so much easier on my "sanity" and my family for me to do this. I think that Super Walmart is so few pennies cheaper (we're talking less than $5 total at the end of the trip after going to 2 different stores) than other places, that it's just better to save the sanity than the money. Sorry for going off, but I really REALLY hate Walmart, supersized version or not.

Sadly WalMart is monopolizing the world you see it everywhere they are putting up stores in every little spot they can find and putting many many many small businesses out of business thier products are becoming much lower quality and prices are getting higher some towns you have no choice but walmart there is even at least one in China which is where most of walmarts merchandise is made. If you can support small business before it is totally gone

Absolutely, they're more expensive. I guess someone has to pay for all that construction. The sad thing is the Wal-Mart closest to me has no real competition in the immediate area so they're very easily able to gouge the public. People have to spend a fair amount for gas, especially at today's prices, to shop anywhere else so they really have them over a barrel. It's bad enough, in my opinion, that Wal-Mart treats their employees so shabbily and sells almost exclusively merchandise made in China but now their prices aren't even competitive. I prefer my local Aldi's and Save-A-Lot for as much of my grocery shopping as possible and our local Giant or Weis Markets for the rest; at least they double coupons and have a preferred shoppers program where you really get big savings and register coupons for future orders. I have noticed prices on a lot of diffrent things going up at the wal-mart by my house. of course prices are going up everywhere but I was surprised to see so many higher prices at wal-mart since they are known for their good deals.

I live in South Jersey. We have no Super Walmarts by us at all. We have a whole bunch of small Walmarts. One closes at 10 pm and the others at 11 pm. Even in Mississippi we had a bunch of Super Walmarts. It drove us crazy moving here with nothing open 24 hours. I didn't notice much price difference back home. Things are actually more expensive up here at our small Walmarts than they were there at the big ones. I do know that between 2 of the Super Walmarts in Mississippi. One of them had higher prices than the other. But the one with higher prices always seemed to have better clearance prices! So, we would go to both and get the best deal from both places. I hope they change at least 1 of our small Walmarts into a SuperCenter!

We got our first Super Walmart about 1.5 years ago and people from all over went flocking there. It was such a zoo and it really hasn't gotten better since. Everything that I wanted wasn't in stock, the line ups were at least 45 minutes long, it's impossible to find a staff person who knows where to find products within the store. I don't have the patience for that type of shopping atmosphere and haven't shopped there for at least a year. I'm giving my money to local smaller stores.

the price of food has gone up in general steadily over the past year. You really notice it on the small essentials. For example at aldi, which for those that don't know is the big store branded generic only store, tuna in the last 14 months went from 49 cents a can to 52, to 54, to 57 and now it is 59 cents. I know a time does sound like much until you figure that is 20%. other thing slike milk and eggs have gone up horrendously. I used to buy 89 cent a dozen large sized eggs at aldi, now it they are over $2 a dozen
