Obama's pastor. Why the media are talking about it only now?

Obama and his pastor - Obama and his longtime pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright

If you don't know it, Obama's longtime pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, is a racist priest who suggested in one sermon that the United States brought the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on itself and in another said blacks should damn America for continuing to mistreat them. I think Obama shouldn't have attended his church, even if I think in the end it's only his business and we should not concern about it, but I wonder: Why the media are talking about it only now? A lot of people now are changing their judgement about Obama (some polls say so) and with this known from the start the democratic elections could have been different I'm starting to think there are 2 possibilities 1)the media wanted to hide the fact to support Obama 2)the media wanted to hide it and then say it in the campaign Obama-McCain to make McCain win What do you think?

You know the funny thing is that I just feel that both Hilary and McCain are supported by white supremist. I wonder if in the days to come the media will go on a man hunt and flush out stories of these persons as they have on Obama. I am neither here nor there where politics is concerned but I do like to watch what goes on and engage in discussions accordingly. I think Obama has his ghost, Hilary has her ghost, McCain has his ghost and heck we all have our ghost. There is one fact which Americans are yet to deny which they really cant as it is a well known fact that many white supremist still exist in the country and that many powerful whites are scared of being led by a black man. It should not surprise us that all of this as unfolded regarding Obama. At least we know that but like the NY Mayor what will come out of the other candidates closet in the furture. I think this had to be done to help Hilaries cause because many persons both whites and blacks even in the face of the Obama story have expressed their distrust in her. I think politics overall is dirty. Poeple play hard and dirty to get what they want. Lets just see what the future holds. What other dirt will be flushed out in the future and whose closet will the media go digging in next. And it is true, the media does play politics and try to influence voters.

The media doesn't slink around in politician's past as much as you might think. It usually takes a hot tip to start them down a particular path and then, of course, if it gets the news outlet more "hits" they will run with it. Someone from the Clinton campaign or someone from the KKK or similar "fear" group hooked the media up with this non-story and it has progressed completely out of proportion. It reminds me of anti-communist McCarthy-era "guilt by association" in a way, and it is the same kind of fear being played upon: "Oh, we can't trust a black man to be President!" Contrary to popular belief, the media, as a collective entity, is not evil. They investigate and publish want we want to see. True, many media outlets endorsed Obama because he fit best with their interests, but none of them have had a problem running stories that would appear to hurt him. They give us what we want because that is ultimately the best thing for their self-interest, and that's simple capitalism. Bottom line: It was lack of importance and knowledge that hid the story for a while, then it was anti-Obama individual or group that highlighted the story and society's prejudicial fear that made the story popular. No conspiracy, just hate, profit, fear and politics.

I too think this story is completely out of proportions but I think they didn't say it sooner only for a political gain. I don't know if pro Obama or pro McCain (they could have said it in the presidential campaing)

I just think that a lot of people liked the idea of Obama without really knowing much about him. I've been a supporter of Hillary since she declared but I'd thought of Obama as a good alternative until now. The more I learn about him, the less I consider him a viable candidate. If Hillary Clinton doesn't make it, I'm in a real bind. I don't think I can go for Obama and, in spite of the fact that I personally like John McCain, I have real philosophiical differences with the Republican Party. I might just have to sit this one out and that will be a first and a shame.

I have to admit that that right there (not knowing much about him )was one of the KEY things that had me thinking twice about him to be honest because until 2004, I didn't know the man existed or anything until he made that speech. I thought hard about who to support, and I won't lie, I didn't expect for him to go as far as he did. I feel that in time it will be a Obama-McCain election in November, and we shall see how this would go. As for sitting out on elections, I did sit out on 1988, but that was because I was overseas and just didn't feel right on Dukakis.

I'm with you, I like Hillary but I thought Obama would be at least decent, instead he seems too vulnerable and for me he can't have a chance against Mc cain

Well, he's right on one thing, America treated us like stepchildren from day one. Now on whether we brought those attacks on ourselves, that's a bit hard to say. I feel this country has put their business where they shouldn't. I don't think the media has been hiding it because I've been hearing them talk about this ever since the Texas primaries and that's a couple of weeks now. Right now, this is sadly a every man or woman for his or herself campaign. Folks are repudiating friends and that to me isn't right. You are right for saying where he goes to church is his business, but now, folks are like, well if that's the way he's going to be I don't want no parts of this. i'm keeping my vote with him.

What I am saying is that yes, I will keep on supporting him. I don't care for how this campaign is going and if your friend says something that you may not care for, well kick him to the curb. I may not care for what my friend says or has an opinion for because we all have our own opinions. I have had someone say in a similar post that the time to keep to the high road is not now, but to me, I think it should be.

"I don't think the media has been hiding it because I've been hearing them talk about this ever since the Texas primaries and that's a couple of weeks now." yeah but they could have talked about it at the beginning of the campaign, isn't it? "America treated us like stepchildren from day one." It's right, unfortunately. Also women have been treated like inferior beings since Adam&Eve, it's time for at least one of the groups to have their day. "Right now, this is sadly a every man or woman for his or herself campaign. Folks are repudiating friends and that to me isn't right. You are right for saying where he goes to church is his business, but now, folks are like, well if that's the way he's going to be I don't want no parts of this. i'm keeping my vote with him." Err sorry I don't understand what you've said here. Do you support him or not?

oh the media was definitely biased. Many of the major news stations across the states and nationwide endorsed Obama. Many newspapers as well. I live in one of the largest cities in my state and our ownly newspaper didnt even have a paragraph about the story. If the video had not surfaced, we probably would have never known about his true affiliation. I dont think news media groups should endorse candidates. It is not fair to us to not get the true picture of who may be our next president.

Everything Obama said is a truth. Tell the truth even if it makes your heart bitter. Obama is not campaigning for himself only, but he also campaigns for the sake of America as a whole. If media in America get divided into at least three camps : pro-Obama; anti-Obama and neutral, then it is natural if media rightnow is flaring the war on itself. Oba has led the way, so there is no time for Obama to take a rest or get stopped by media. It is media in America that seems have their own agendas to stop Obama crusade..........What's a pity then.

Give me a break. The media LOVES Obama. I knew about this story over a month ago and the mainstream media refused to cover the story because they didn't want Obama to look bad. If it weren't for the internet it may have never come out. The only network that covered it early on was Fox News.

they use everything they can to make MC Cain look better. Obama is too black one day and too on the next day. They are digging into sand to find anything they can on Obama...

The media wants Obama to win. Now if you watch tv drama shows and particularly shows about police and criminals, they are more likely to have a black man as the police chief, the boss, and even in military crime shows, the commander is usually a black man, not like regular, where he could be from any ethnic group. So would it be in their interest or make them feel good to have a black man, or half black man (if you want to get technical as President of the United States? It would prove to them that blacks are superior to whites. So I would say the first possibility is correct and they decided to reveal it only after Obama was in the running. If they had said this first, then Obama would not have stood a chance.

"It would prove to them that blacks are superior to whites." I think you are exaggerating. Most the media people are white men so no one will say blacks are better. I think they are supporting Obama for a mere political gain, but I can't figure what it is (defeat of the Clintons? Victory of Mc Cain?)

Yes,the mainstream media wanted to hide it for good reason, now that it's out,Hillary now leads osama and there are lot of people regretting they voted before they knew the real osama.Did you hear this morning how Obama described his white grandmothers supposedly reaction coming across a black person in the street.Obama is a RACIST

The media wanted to hide it, plain and simple. The only network to cover the story initially was Fox News. It wasn't until everyone kept bringing it up on the internet and posting videos of the guy on youtube (which youtube kept deleting) that people realized this and the media was forced to cover it.

I think the media is merely a tool in this case. The candidates have people who, sometimes without the candidate's knowledge, spend their time trying to make their opponents look bad. I really don't like going to the polls on election day thinking that I have to choose the person who I think will be less harmful, but that's the way it seems sometimes.

It would have been lot different if the people of America had it known from the start. Know they are exaggerating it rather then getting the facts right. What i am trying to say is intially they should have made people realise this but know they start it and fuming over it. I feel obama shouldnt have attended the church because a man of such a stature who is vying for the post of president of america has some responsibilities towards his cititizens.
