The Bible: What do you believe?

I know religon is a touchy sunject. But it can be a very interesting topic to talk about. I do believe there is a god, but I don't agree with anything in the bible. I also do not believe there is a hell. It is possible that the bible was translated falsely, or that chruchs changed elements in it to make more money. Do you agree with this? I really don't like how many strongly religious people are against homosexuality. God made each person the way they should be (although some believe it is a choice the individual makes) so why shouldn't it just be accepted and respected? You are supposed to love others for whats on the inside not the outisde. So therefore, is god shallow for making believe believe relationships of the same gender are wrong? Also, it is known that religious people are supposed to be forgiving and understanding. Why does this seem to only apply to those who think like them? I'm not saying all religious people are this way, but it's something I have noticed. Does anyone else have opinions like this, or oppose to this completley? I would love to hear what you think.

You are right, very right indeed! What a narrow minded view of God religion gives us! Imagine a God who created you imperfect, loves you but sends you to hell! Thats insane. The Bible has been modified to gain power, notably by Constantine. In fact he was the one who dubbed Jesus as son of God, before that Jesus was just a human being - a very learned individual though, in lines of the Buddha. And what religion teaches about homosexuality is disgusting - the basic aspect of life is live and let live, so you accept the other person as he is. Islam says you should not use a contraceptive because it is against the will of God to do so. And do you know the pathetic condition of Muslim women in the developing nations; with half a dozen children and living on less than $2 per day for the entire family. I agree with you that God sans religion is a true delight.

As you say, religion is a touchy subject. So I'm going to skip on this. Except to say. There is only one good book and people try to rule other people with their faith and even kill others over it as if there god themselves.

..you're right "hell" is actually a mistranslation which should read simply "the grave". As to homosexuality, I don't judge anyone, but I do figure in the end it's up to God (what design he's after, personally I think it's a genetic mutation, so yes, many are born that way). People don't understand God, how he gave thinking ability which includes the ability to choose, so now we have a world like we have, and all people suffer (some even horribly) but God being Life suffers it all! He could've cashed it all in long ago, deciding it wasn't worth it, but he's letting it all run its course. Then, it's my belief, all will be resurrected and will witness and live through a very long day of the examination of all things, as to just what went wrong and what didn't, where what's good and what's not good will be thoroughly hammered out to our understanding, and deeply etched upon every heart and mind..

captainmorgan, Bible was not brought by God from the cloud of sky as what people are thinking. Bible is INSPIRED by God. Thus, the stories in Bible could be true but there are some verses which may have been affected by local traditions during that time. During Jesus's life, homosexuality wasn't mentioned by Jesus. However, we should follow Jesus's teaching and I don't think Jesus would do against homosexuality. Matthew 7:2 "For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you".

Its good to see that you have a level headed few on this situation, yet still follow Jesus's teachings. Thank you for your input.

Well I can not fathom how you could belive there was a God without believing anything in the bible? Is there another text that gave us a monotheistic God? I dont think so but I could be wrong. And I just have to respond to Constantine being the one who called Jesus the son of God? According to what? Can I ask a question if there were scientific or archaelogical proof of the bible authenticity would you believe then? How much proof would you need or what kind? Im just curious.

siddharthlife, The story of Jesus is indeed like the story of Horus from Egyptian. But we should remember that the story of Jesus is an ancient story and so Horus's story is. Is it possible that those Egyptians had plagiarized the story of Jesus into their belief? Bible mentions that Moses tried to bring Israel out from Egypt?

Great Siddarthlife: The information about Horus is totally fascinating. It gives us the idea that maybe the story that we believe in about God and Jesus was just plagerized material from the Egyptians. It is just about the same story almost word for word. Have you come across the information about the stars, the three kings, Sun=Son, equinox, the birth in the manger.?? real interesting material. PEACE

There are so many contradictions in the bible and it has been translated so many times that I do not understand why people put so much emphasis on it. I do think that people sometimes pick and choose bits from it that theywould like to believe and ignore the bits that they do not like. I do sometimes wonder how logical people can believe some of the things that are written in it.
