Since English is not my mother language, I can not understand some idiom. I have read a sentence from one chating room in the internet just now. Someone said: He is in the doghouse. I have new boyfriend now. What does "in the doghouse" mean? Is there anybody who can explain this sentence to me? Thanks!

It's a figure of speech. Being 'in the doghouse' normally means a man is in trouble with his wife (he's been kicked out of the marriage bed and must go sleep with the dog).

its a daying relating to a husband being forced to spend the night out of the house by his wife for some indiscretion or argument, and is therfore forced to spend the night in the doghouse Now normally relates to someone having done something wrong and been caught out

Basically, it describes a family member (or member of any group) who has done something to upset the other members and is being cast out. When I was a kid, my mom had a little wooden doghouse hanging in the kitchen with magnetic dogs that each had a different famiy member's name on it. Whenever somebody did something wrong or didn't do one of their chores, the little dog with their name on it went into the doghouse. My brother and I spent a lot of time "in the doghouse".LOL

Being "in the doghouse" refers to someone being in trouble for something they've done to upset their partner. I think "in the doghouse" is used to describe being in trouble because it simbolizes that the person who is in trouble won't be sleeping in the same room as their spouse. They probably won't be literally sleeping in a doghouse, but maybe on the couch or something. hehe

if someone is in the doghouse, it means that they have been a bad person and the other person does not want to be around them. for example, say your husband spend a lot of money on the credit card and did not tell you. you found out on your own and are mad at him. you tell me he is sleeping on the couch. that means he is in the doghouse until the morning or whenever the sitution is resolved
