Big Decisions: Head or Heart?

How do you make your big (or small) decisions? Is it a gut feeling that you go with or do you think about everything and analyse it? Does it depend on the situation?

I do both. I think about it and ask other's for their opinions. Then I listen to my gut. For example, a friend of mine wanted me to start a business with her. It all looked good on paper, but my gut kept saying no. She went ahead a started it, but it is not going as good as she thought it would. That business would have taken money I needed for other things without a return. So, I am glad that I didn't do it. But I do support her by giving her business and referring her to others.

I think that's a good way to do things, researching the facts as well as going with your gut. It's sad for your friend that her business is not going well but you obviously made the right decision and you are a very good friend for helping her. My sister and I are like that, we help each other out with our businesses and give each other support wherever we can.

For a big decision a lot of times I definately look at all the facts that I have available and really give it some serious thought. I also kind of go with my gut too. Even if I look at something carefully if my gut is telling me there's something wrong or if I shouldn't do it I won't do it. Otherwise it depends on the situation. If it has to be a split second decision I definately go with my gut and that usually steers me in the right direction to make the right decision.

Thank you for your response. That's more or less what I do too. The reason I posted this discussion was because I had just seen something on a tv programme which conducted an experiment where two groups were given a choice of cars to pick the best one. They had all the specs about each one. The outcome was that the "thinking" group had 50% pick out the one which was actually the best but the "gut feeling" group had 75% get it correct. Apparently, there have been other tests which suggest that going with your gut is better than thinking about things. I'm not sure I would be inclined to test it out though!

I don't usually analyse anything really, my heart responds first, then my head takes over, but not all the time, if someone upsets my son, then it's only my heart, my head doesn't get a look in!

If I went with my gut feeling I think my life would have been totally different, but NO I let my stupid heart rule and ignored my instincts, that's why I got involved with two manipulators in the past! Now I bury my heart deep and don't wear it on my sleeve and everything I decide over I use my brain and intuition, that way I am usually right and it's an easier life for me, with less risks and less rejections. I guess it's down to the person and their past, and whether the heart gets them into trouble or not, or they like risk, I don't so my heart is invisible and well barricaded!

I guess other events in life will influence the way we deal with things in the future. Your heart isn't as invisible as you may like to think you know. I can see you have one!

This is a tough one. usually, being the emotional me, i would tend to overrule my mind's decisions with the desire of my heart. Most of the time though, i get second opinion, or i share this with my mom. she helps me in most of what i decide on.. it somehow turns out well all the time. if i decide, i would be praying hard for it.. like this one instance that my mind tells me i should quit my job and find a new one... my heart is telling me not to go cause i like the people i work it.. and who cares about the money... i consulted my mom asked her to also pray for me in making the decision. I somehow stayed with the company and everything seems to fall into place right now... i guess whether we use our hearts or our minds... we have to pray for it, for God to guide us in making the right decision.

well................I do follow and think about what my head says.............then I think about it with my heart...........you know ,what one says as right could actually be wrong when the situation is taken into consideration............dont you agree?.............so,its better to analyse both and arrive at the situation's solution which is the best..............when you look back in your life, there could be loads of examples citing each as right. Cheers! Have a nice day.
