a continuation of my previous discussion regarding wrong numbers. what do you do when you first realize you have called the wrong phone number? The person answers... hello? do you quickly blurt out sorry wrong number and then slam down the phone in embarrassment? Do you hang up in an instant never saying a word? Do you nicely inform the listener that you dialed the wrong number and apologize for the inconvenience?

I apologize ..but then i get a bit paranoid!!..i think omg what if i call again and still get the wrong number!!!...i know people are usually quite good about these things...but one day you may come across one who isnt!! My phone number must be very similar to an indian takeaway in our town....because ive had a few calls...and they say...Hi..is this the Jeera???? I was wondering whether to knock up a few dishes and freeze them..do takeaways on the side!!!!lolol

oh I get the same way! so when someone calls my house more than once on accident I try to remember to be patient and kind in my responses. Thank goodness for cordless phones as I am not getting around too well these days! funny about the restaurant. we get confused for a doctor's office and also a community action facility. most wrong numbers we get are for the community action - and sometimes the callers are a bit hostile.

LOl I use to have a number that was close to the Hospital ER and the Audibell store (hearing aides) THAT proved to be interesting. I'd get calls saying " ISN'T THIS THE ER?" I'd wonder about their plight, and quickly give them the correct number. The ones calling the hearing aid store would always be older and hard of hearing. Only one couldn't hear at all and I gave up with out explaining their mistake.

LOL I never hang up just because /i mis-dialed! AND I hate when other do that. I just say something like" OH, I think i have the wrong number" or Ask for the person I wanted and if they sauy I have the wrong number I ask if I have 555-1234 or not to be sure I don't have the wrong number for who I am trying to reach. I have talked to several people from a wrong number. One guy was older and I could tell he was very lonely and longing for human conversation. I bet I talked to him for 30 minutes. He was SO sweet! I felt it did him good to talk. I wish I had called him, so I could have mis=dialed from time to time, but I didn't get his number. I would have called from time to time if i had. I HATE to hear about elderly people that have no one to talk to.

With one VOIP phone provider we were getting lines switched quite a bit and I had to say "I am SO sorry to have bothered you" a few times. But the funniest time was when our line got crossed with the neighbors and he heard me tell the callers, some old guy keeps getting on the line. OMG, I had no idea it was him. He was an old guy though, and lived well into his 90's. Nice fella, too, but not real good at handling phone calls.

I usually say sorry because I am embarrassed and wait for their response and then either hang up or say something else.

If I know the person I was calling and dial wrong, I usually will say "I'm sorry I think I have dialed incorrectly" and hang up. If I am calling someone I don't know and may have dialed incorrectly I will say "I'm trying to reach 555-1212 is this the correct number? They will usually just say no that's not this number or yes you have reached that number. I have had people dial wrong and reach me that then want to talk... not me. If I don't know you I don't want to chat with you on the phone...lol Blessed be, Mari

When I get the wrong number, I say I am sorry and thank you. I am always getting someone calling here with the wrong number. They are always asking for someone and I tell them that so and so does not live here. They say thank you and hang up. I don't think I have ever had anyone be rude with a wrong number before.

I usually just hang up, which sometimes results in the person calling me back. If I'm in a good mood, I'll quickly say "Sorry, wrong number" and hang up.

i usually say like this, "i am sorry, but i've dialed the wrong number". then i put down my phone. once i dialed the wrong number, after i said sorry, the one picked the phone still wanted to chat to me. i remember he asked me where i am from. it surprised me. you know that's quite unusual. maybe he was too bored.i answered his a few questions and quickly ended up the conversation.

I generally say I'm sorry I have a wrong number. Sometimes when I am in a good mood I'll just try and have a conversation with them, they usually don't talk once they figure out they don't know me.
