What do you like to read?

I have a real love of reading, and hadn't been reading as much as I'd like. So inspired by the BBC's Top 100 Big Read I created my own list of 100 books to read. Most of them are classics that I haven't quite got round to, and range from Kipling to Nabokov. I love having a challenge and also the feeling of accomplishing something by ticking things off the list. I've only read a handful of books and finished The English Patient recently and started reading The Hobbit yesterday and I am hooked! I've never read any Tolkien and I love the writing style. What types of books do you like to read? Do you prefer classics like Shakespeare or Jane Austen? Or do you prefer more contemporary writers?

I just love reading, Anything. Anything that I can lay my hands on. I just have to get my hands on them thats it. Sometimes when I visit my friends they try to hide their books so that I do not take them from them... I just love books. I have read many books. I especially like Sci Fi and fantasy. Fiction and Suspense also top my list. bourne

Nice to see someone else with a passion for reading. I've not read much fantasy, but am really enjoying The Hobit right now so I'm sure I'll be reading more in the future. I like suspense too!

I have always love to read all types of books from "Charlotte's Web" to "Hamlet". But my most favority reading is murder mysteries. I have a collection of mostly modern authors that is out of this world. I just recently joined a company that for about $50 a month, you can get beautifully bound classics such as: Gulliver's Travels, HuckleFinn, Treasure Island, etc. You can also order just as beautiful and I mean beautiful sets by Mark Twain, Ernest Hemingway, etc. They are going to make a wonderful edition to my home library. I've alway want to one day be able to read at my leisure, the classics one by one. What out Alex Trebex (smile). Even though I prefer the more contempory writers like: Saul Bellows, Sidney Sheldon, Mary Higgins Clark, Carol Clark, Sue Grafton, Deam Kootz, etc. A little bit of Shakespeare is always a welcome change. If nothing else it exercise those reading muscles that you can't really stretch reading anything else but the Bible.

I don't tend to read much in the way of pre-20th century classics. I've read a few, but quite often the style of writing is a bit hard to cope with. I've been trying to read Frankenstein for a while, but I'm having problems with it.

I don't think I have many in the list that are pre-20th Century, but many are quite challenging to read. I remember Frankenstein was a good but heavy read (in terms of writing style).
