I got my cast off today! I can finally rub and itch my leg...lol It is one hairy, blue, dried skinned leg - really kind of scuzzy looking - but I can rub it!!!! my ankle is very weak and there is practically no strength at all in the foot/tendon The doctor assures me though that the ruptured tendon has healed, so now it is a matter of building up its strength and stretching the tendon back to its normal position.

That's good to hear. I bet it feels so much better to have that cast off. Do you have physical therapy scheduled to help strengthen it again?

you know, I really expected that I would... maybe it is because I am the dependent wife of a retiree, I don't know... but all he did was put a riser in my shoe and told me to come back in 4 weeks. odd. I think I will call tomorrow.

I'm surprised he/she didn't refer you to one. I ruptured my archilles tendon and had physical therapy after my half cast came off six weeks later. It really helped.

Congrats on getting the cast off. I know how great that feels. I had a cast on my arm for 6 weeks, then off for 2-3, then back on for 6 weeks because of a fall - nothing was even broken!

oh wow, I have often heard, and believe, that some injuries (bad sprains - torn ligaments and yes, ruptured tendons) are worse than breaks and harder to heal.

You said it best in your title Ahhhh! My son has a cast on and probably has another 3-6 weeks with it. He can't wait to get the blasted thing off. Healing takes a long time. Glad to hear that you will soon be up and running!

ahah! it was quite embarrassing in the cast room, as there is no privacy in there and there were three male patients plus 2 male doctors and the 3 cast techs... and here I was with my scuzzy leg.. at least it did not stink, the one they took off two weeks ago (had been on 5 weeks)really had an awful odor from water getting in. I wish I could say I was running a marathon, or risking life and limb in an heroic rescue... but alas I was only walking and went up an incline hyperextending my foot...

i'm glad it is healing :) a friend of mine in school had a cast that extended from his mid thigh to foot (i think he fell out of a tree),and i used to watch him try to jam a stick in there to itch-so i know exactly what you're talking about.he said it was occasionally maddening.

that must have been horrible... mine only went up to my knee and was cumbersome enough. I also have a friend that needed a full leg cast like that - she was in her 50s though!

Congratulations....,Oh I bet that felt good. I had a cast on my leg up to my thigh when I broke my leg. Actually I had a large plastic and metal brace and a stocking thing under it. I couldn't take it off for 4 weeks and when I did oh my. I had been having this pain and really bad itch on my calf. Well when I could take the brace off for the first time.... one of the rivets was eating a hole in my calf...It hurt and itched so bad I didn't think I would survive. I then had to have a bandage on my calf along with the darn stocking thing and brace. What a miserable summer I spent...and it happened on my birthday in June. I also broke my arm once and like you when they took the cast off my arm seemed to float up in the air..... Brightest Blessings, Mari

Oh, I just bet that feels so much better. I am glad that it came off before warmer weather came upon us. Then, it would 'really' be itching. Keep doing what the doctor says to do and it will be fully healed then. I hope that it is back to normal soon.

you are quite right, I am very grateful that it was not in summer months that I tore my tendon.

Woo Hoo...I bet if feels really good! I had a broken arm once and I remember the freedom I felt when they took off the cast....just don't get too excited and start leaping tall buildings just yet! Take it easy for a while and build up your strength slowly! Good for you!

you know it! I remember with my full arm cast that when they cut it off it felt like it was floating up in the air, it was so much lighter in comparison.

I have never had a cast to have to wear but I can imagine it must suck to have an itch under one that you cannot scratch. I've heard of people putting pens between their cast and their skin to try to scratch and itch and having the pens or whatever object they use get stuck. Then when they took the cast off the pen or object was embedded in their skin. That would scare me so bad. I'm glad that you were able to get your cast off and hope that you have gained your strength back seeing that this post was 3 years ago lol.
