and the tooth fairy came and gave him a few dollars. Now when I was a kid I would get a bit of change at the most a buck. Kids now are getting closer to $5.00 I find. Do you do the tooth fairy thing with your kids? How much does she bring? How much did you get as a kid? Colton looks so cute with a missing front tooth. LOL

We do the tooth fairy thing at our house and we give our kids a couple of dollars when they loose a tooth. They are so excited when they get a loose tooth that they wiggle it all the time in hopes that the tooth will come out sooner so they can give it to the tooh fairy in hope of getting some money. We did the tooth fairy thing at home also when I was a kid.

They certainly are cute when they lose teeth! lol My kids still only get .50-1.00. (And I have even forgotten to give anything at all a time or two- yikes!) They are happy with the pocket change.

Yes we do the tooth fairy thing and I did it when I was a child also. I know that when I was a child I just got a little change, whatever mom and dad had I guess. My children get a couple dollars each time the tooth fairy comes. I give one paper dollar and then one dollar coin and always hope that they will save the coin. They are saving them so far.

That is awesome that you make it more special with the cool money. I am like your parents, whatever spare change I have at the time. No set amount. But I have to be careful. When I was a kid there was only .01, .10, .25. Now here in Canada we have the $1 and $2 coin. LOL

Save yourself some money, get dollar coins or $2 bills. They are so novel to the kids that they prefer them to the $5. I did that with my son, all his friends were envious of his $2 bills and his dollar coins.

Some else mentioned about the dollar coin. I think that is a great idea.

Hello, Vicki. Here in Brazil, we do not have this tradition of the tooth fairy. When we lost a tooth, we just said we lost it. We didn't earn a cent per it. I find it amazing about the tooth fairy... How do you manage to take away the tooth and leave the money while the child is sleeping? I mean, it is right below his pillow, he would wake up! Wouldn't he? I know, children have a strong sleep. They barely wake up, unless it is a really hard noise. Respectfully, Munhozmib.

Well we dont do the tooth fairy at our house. So when the kids pull their teeth we make a big deal about it for a while, then thats it. I feel that in my heart its lying to my kids , so therefore I dont do it. I have also told my children some other children do believe in tooth fairies and that they cannot ruin it for them. I am totally understanding that every family chooses what is right for them. That goes for Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny-we dont believe in them either. Situations have arised and I have seen how my children react to them, and am so proud for respecting others wishes to celebrate traditional holidays how they want to. And by no means am I putting any one down, I'm just giving my opinions.

I absolutely agree with you. There are beliefs in my community that my family does not share and I always tell my children to respect their feelings as it is the only way to receive respect for your own beliefs as well. It is very nice that they do. Thanks

My daughter got $5.00 once, only because I had no change at all, other than that its just a dollar...I just told her that it was a lucky bonus that the tooth fairy gives out for 1 of her teeth..

My sister and I always got a dollar when we lost a tooth. I knew it was my parents giving the money so I tried to stay up all night to catch them putting the dollar under my pillow. Darn it, but every time I'd fall asleep, only to wake up in the morning with the tooth gone and in its place a dollar bill. I never did catch them in the act!

I got quarters. When my son was losing his teeth, his friends were often getting 10s and 20s. I got smart, got some dollar coins and he got those. Found out no one else got them and thought they were the greatest thing since sliced bread, so he was happy and I had more money in my pocket.

I wish I was getting that much. When I was loosing teeth I was lucky to get a quarter!!! My son has started loosing his teeth, but I haven't done the tooth fairy thing with him. He has some mental disabilities, and I feel like he couldn't keep up with the money. I don't allow him to go to the store, so he has nowhere to spend the money. Finally, I am broke most of the time, and can't spare the dollar (I don't care what most people do, he would get a dollar lol.) to put under his pillow. Hopefully when my daughter gets to that age, we all will be in a better situation, and I will be able to do that with the both of them.

Its not that bad. We aren't starving. We have clean clothes, and we aren't in danger of living outdoors. All I need is a job or a good program on the internet and I will be set!!! Thanks for the BR!!!

Gosh drknlyly sorry to hear it is so bad. I know sometimes it is really hard to just get by let alone any extra. My middle child has special needs and it has its challenges for sure. I remember when I was 19 with my daughter and I was lucky to get money for her basic stuff let alone a buck for nothing. I am in a better situation now yet at times it still is tough. Right now I am not getting child support, government assistance or a job so off to the food bank I go. It will help us till the payments come in. I do feel though that my situation will improve. It is way better now then 10 years ago and it will get better 10 years from now. I wish you all the best.

You can always draw him a picture with smiley faces and hearts or something he likes and leave that under his pillow. He probably would like it better than money.

Hi vicki! My granddaughter just lost a tooth and I asked her what the tooth fairy left her for her tooth and she told me that she got $2. I think that is plenty. That was the first tooth that she lost and now she has another loose one and can't wait for that one to come out too. $$$

My son still gets paid by the tooth fairy. He only get $1 per tooth though. I don't remember what I got for my teeth when I was a kid. I don't think I got money for them for very long.

I do not have children, but my sister is still loosing her teeth and she gets paid £1 and I got 50p when I was younger up to £1 when I was a little older. I think it all depends on the wealth of the family.
