I think that is great if that is true, I wish the U.S. Had Our Medical Insurance set up like that don't you? I don't have Medical Ins. And some people that do work, still don't have Medical Ins. Wouldn't that be great for Our Country to have this?

well, honey, nothing is FREE anymore, but yes, we do get basic free health coverage (which means dr visits and er visits) however, wait times are long (to see a specialist, it can take 6 months to a year to see one) also, before ya start packing your bags, keep in mind that canada pays one of the highest amount of tax per person - so no, its not 'FREE'...

I never thought of that, that taxes here are one of the highest I do feel that no matter how many hours we work and how much we try to live within budget, taxes and deductions always seem to take about 30% no matter how much we earn

I know Canada has free healthcare, but I'm not sure how the system works. I do know that there is no way a country could afford to do that for everyone if there wasn't a trade-off somewhere else. The U.S. needs a better system for sure, but I wouldn't have any idea what would make it better than wouldn't take away from something else.

I really don't understand how they can do that, because it is so many people. Your right the U.S. doesn't need a better symstem, maybe one of the New Presidents will be able to figure it out, It would be nice if they did. thanks for your input.

there are definitely millions of people here but not as many as in the US when I first came here population was 30 millions and the US was over 300 millions if I remember correctly with so many people paying taxes I don't know why it's impossible to provide at least free basic medical care but each country has different way of doing things

Yes Canada has free health insurance but I believe it varies (how it works, whats covered etc) from Province to Province..I'm from Ontario and my OHIP covered everything from Dr's visits to ER visits and from Hospital stays to surgery (with conditions) and so on...And when my youngest was in the Neonatal for those months OHIP covered all of his expenses as well..Living in NY/the U.S is a right royal pain in the rump for me because though we have coverage through my hsubands work we still have to pay a copay which is just nuts to me....

That is good for you Family, when I was Working I had to pay a co-payment too, I think it is better to pay the Co-payment, at least you don't half to worry about a big bill.

So does the UK. There is not one person in Great Britain who cant eat because they dont have dental coverage or see because they dont have vision care. These types of medical care are not even available here under normal insurance coverage unless you pay extra on top of what we have to pay for basic coverage! I think that it is a disgrace that a country as wealthy as the USA does not give free medical coverage to it's citizens. Probably because it spends to much paying for illegal immigrants to get emergency care!

I think that it would be a great idea for the US to have insurance like that. I know when I was working, I could not afford health insurance for me or my daughter. I made too much to qualify for Medicaid. I made 'just' enough to pay my rent. I know that health insurance is one of the political issues. I just hope that the situation is fixed soon.

The trade off in taxes would definitely not be worth it for me. We gripe about taxes as it is, and I can't imagine having to wait months to see a doctor for a specific problem. I know insurance is really expensive, and that co-pay can suck, but I still don't like the thought of having to make up for the cost by paying so much higher taxes.

From what I've always heard they do get free medical, but I also have heard that their taxes are much more and that the system is not trouble free. One guy I know in another forum said that it takes sometimes 2 or 3 months just to get an appointment at the Drs...which is not good to wait when you're sick or have an infection or something. It is good that they have no 'pre-existing conditions' clauses that prevent people who need help from getting it. I have pre-existing conditions and they told me I was un-insurable because I had cancer...and now that I'm 6 years past I'm eligible again, but at a very, very expensive rate that nobody could ever afford. I've often jokingly told my family that I should think about emigrating to Canada hahaha.

Yes. It is true that Canadians have free medical insurance but I think they do have to pay for prescriptions though, but that is alot better than what the United States offers. My family doesn't have insurance either. We cannot afford it.

Not free but if you work it will be taken off your paycheck bi weekly around $ 10 or so depends on the plan you are taking. if you are self employed then you can be included in your family insurance or get your own insurance. some insurance covers 80%, some 100%, different company will provide different plan you can choose. that's how it works for me and my husband.

I don't know how things work in Canada or other parts of the world, but here in Australia, low income families and individuals get the majority of their health care free. Sometimes we have to pay a gap fee, but is not bank breaking. Everyone is entitled to free hospital care which is great. I think we pay a certain amount of our taxes to health so this helps to fund it. We also pay a special fee on our electricity bill for ambulance cover, so no more ambulance bills.

Here in my country, you have two choices, either to get into the government hospital or a private hospital. You can get to government hospital but you must be very patient with their service and its almost free. But if you want to admit to a private hospital, just be prepared with a hole in your pocket. So it is much better to allocate 10% of your salary to buy medical insurance so that you'll get a good service in the private hospital and not much money spend into it coz insurance will cover about 90% of the expenses.Thats how the insurance works!!
