Restaurant replaced by church

Well, it looks like we have lost our favorite restaurant. This was the one and only restaurant in our area. They also ran a B&B. It was sold a few months ago and we were hoping the new owners would also run it as a restaurant. We were shocked to find out that it has been turned into a church. Just what our neighborhood does not need, another church. We have more than enough already. There are no signs up for it so it still looks like an ordinary house. We now have nowhere to go out to eat that is within walking distance. The nearest place is 4 miles away now. Anyone else lose their favorite eating place like this?

Well, I´m sorry to hear that, I guess you will have to go for spiritual nourishment now. I admit, though, it´s not as tasty as B&B LOL. But no, I live in Mexico, and this place is full of restaurants. If one should shut down for some reason, another one just opens up around the corner. I live in a small neigborhood in a provincial mexican town, and I have about 5 places I could go from here for food, and they are all within 10 minutes walking distance. Fancy coming down?

Sounds like a nice place. Come down? I'd get my feet wet!

Yeah, just checked your profile, you´re from good old England. Ever been to the Wirral?

Actually I am living in Scotland. I moved here from Alaska. I have never been to Mexico but who knows, maybe one day.

I know what you mean. They'll stick a church in anything around here. You can't go a block without passing 3 of them. How can they possibly be filling all these churches, especially when there are some big enough to seat the whole freaking town?

Maybe they think the neighborhood needs saving?

Saving from what? We seriously have churches here big enough to house the whole town. Why the need for so many? You can't throw a rock without hitting a stained glass window.

Gosh that is hard when you lost a restaurant and there are no others suitable to go to. I live in a large cit so there are all kinds of restaurants around. But I know sometimes you just have a favourite spot and when it is gone it is gone. So far it has not happened to me, thank God because I am a stickler for my favourite places as well.

It's not often that you find new churches popping up now is it? Sorry to hear about the restaurant going though! Where I live our favourite eateries don't tend to disappear but more get taken over then they get rid of the chef and the food gets terrible, it's happened at least three times in the last couple of years that I can think of!

This is not the only new church going up in the area. A new one is being built about 1/2 mile from this one that replaced the restaurant. New churches seem to be popping up all over the place. This area needs a restaurant, not more churches.

Sorry to hear that you have lost the one and only restaurant within walking distance from your place spiritwolf. Why did it close down if it was the only one around? Were they not doing enough business? Seems a shame, and odd that it should be turned into a church. Perhaps you should open your own restaurant? You have so many good recipies from what I've seen you post here! Just a thought . . .

The original owners sold the place due to health problems. The new owners brought in a new chef. He seemed to like to serve frozen foods. It was a great restaurant when it first opened. We used to go there for our wedding anniversaries. The new owners didn't last very long due to the new chef. We don't even know if it was sold, they just had a change of use. We didn't even know about it. We read about it in the papers about a new church in the neighborhood. Oh lucky us.

Only 4 miles away? You poor baby. At least you don't live in South Florida, where you need a car to get to ANYWHERE you're going... I'll take 4 miles away any day! LOL

I sympathise with you SpiritWolf. Over the last few months we've seen 3 or 4 of our local restaurants close down. They're stamping down on all the regulations at the moment, and lots of retaurants would find it so expensive to comply that they're closing down instead. It's such a shame.
