If your minister lies would you tell him?

Would you be afraid to tell your minister he/she has a terrible habit of stretching the truth.? Do you think that since they are ministers you should never correct them.. I would think that if it was between you and the minister people would believe the minister. I think that a minister is human like us..and we should be able to say what we think to them as much as to anyone else.. Of course some people think ministers are God.

I would have a hard time attending a Church if I knew the Pastor or minister was lying about things. I would wonder how they can feel right with themselves and God knowing that people know they are doing this. I would be trying to find somewhere where I did not have to worry about this type of thing, and then maybe send a note or Email to him after you leave letting him know because of conflict of interest or something like that you have decided to change churches. But the choice is yours, but Yes, it would bother me too if it was me.

Sounds like sound advice given. I think many people trust that everything their minister/rabbi/priest or other says is true. If they doubt ..they wouldn't think of approaching this person..

My Minister would only lie Once to me! I would not bother telling him what I thought. I'd be Gone. I walked away from my Church and My Minister over 50 years ago, and I've never gone back. The reason was, not only the Minister lied, but the Bible did too. He came to visit me about a Month later and asked me why I quit the Church. I explained it very carefully to him, and He called me a " Heretic!"

I guess it took much courage for you to confront your minister ..and to challenge him..I am sure he didn't like it one bit.. There are good ministers..but there are also bad ones.

Hi littlefranciscan! I think that if our parish priest/minister has that habit of stretching the truth, I think I will somehow try to correct it if I am there hearing all that he was saying, we could always politely tell him that he was mistaken somehow. And of course, most of the times people will tend to believe the priest/minister over me because everyone will say he is a man of God and he says the truth. I do agree with you that ministers/priests are human too. They are also vulnerable to temptations just like the rest of us. Just my thoughts! Take care and have a nice day!

Thanks for your post..I agree.. they are human just like we are..but in some churches ..the priest/minister etc are made to be equal to God like they can do no wrong...I find this hard to accept.. Everything they say therefore..is like gospel..even if it's a lie!

if your minister lies, i guess you should be worried. people had reposed their trust to him. the last thing he must do is to lie. and it is your responsibility to tell him that you know that he has been lying. ministers are not God. they are also human capable of committing sins. and they also need guidance. hence, you should tell them if they are lying.

because it is far to a ministers to did wrong but many ministers now make horrible things that we must aware and careful of it. if you monitored on tv many ministers did r*pe to their member, other abuse youth members of the church. I believe they can make mistakes even they are ministers. they are human like us. slave of sin. Hope they will resist the urge of making sin.

Of course, they are people, but i agree it is difficult to tell them off,few people would be on your side. With ministers being God's speakers, they should be more humble and listen to their followers as well as you listen to them. That reminds of Obama and his church-related scandal.

I don't think I would judge the soul of a minister..but if the person has a habit of telling lies I surely would tell him/her..I think it's a duty.

Of course I would! Just as I would tell my doctor if he made a mistake, or my child's teacher and I've done both! People are in positions of authority because they have more education, not necessarily common sense. Anyone can make a mistake. If you point out the mistake in private conference without embarrassing the person, they will usually publicly admit it and correct themselves. Only God is perfect. Clergy are definitely not perfect and because they pursue an authoritarian position, I imagine that they have issues and defects that makes them less perfect than their parishioners. Not always, but often.
