If I recall, the idea of a rating system was to help weed out a lot of those stupid, inane responses and to encourage a real dialogue, while rewarding those who post interesting discussions. Lately, it seems that it might be hacked. I've been fortunate to maintain my current rating, but I remember when it first went down--and I was devastated! I try to be a reasonable person, and post intelligent responses, but lately it's getting harder and harder. My question is--do you feel that we still need it? Does it serve any purpose? Or shall it go by the wayside? Inquiring minds want to know!

I was so proud of my 10 star rating until I answered a discussion that was not received with favor. All it was just my opinion, nothing more or less, but her friends took exception to my answer and I dropped down and have never been able to regain my 10 so now I don't bother if it goes up or down or disappears all together, there are discussions on here I truly enjoy and others that I detest, the ones I enjoy I respond to, the ones I detest I ignore, I truly believe if you ignore some thing long enough it will go away. Works for me, and again this is just my opinion your more than welcome to like or disregard Good question Robin

Thanks for responding Robin! I dropped to a 9 because I responded to someone responding to a discussion I started! I honestly don't understand what's happening though lately--several friends have reported dropping rapidly (several in a day). I now only respond to those discussions that interest me, even if they have a best response. I'm not here about the money (heck, the lowest payout doesn't even pay for a quarter tank of gas now!); I'm just here for some intelligent conversations!

I just got my star rating and I feel that its a great incentive when you're not making enough money from your posts to cashout. It gives you something to look forward to like when I reach 200 I can then use the myLot code. So, you, see, there are incentives besides the money to be had here at myLot.

Congratulations on your new star! However, I don't think that anyone here in the US is going to make it really count for much (except a gallon of gas, if the trend keeps up!), but it is a way for us all to learn to get along and meet new people! Thanks for your response!

I think Mylot has it own way[algoritm) of evaluating the people. Even if we don't understand it but it has an important function. Just try to be as expressive and honest as possible and your rating will improve and you may even reach on the no. 10.

I know myLot has it's own way of evaluating posts, but it seems that very recently, the star rating system is showing how 'trolls' (to use someone else's word) have the ability to abuse the system! I don't know who the trolls are (could it even be some poor soul bullied as a child and still holding a grudge?) I'm not sure where my star is at the moment (it was a 9 last night, but I haven't checked lately) and it could even go down. I work very hard trying to compose quality responses (hence, that's why I'm STILL waiting for my second payout!), but often there isn't much for me to respond to in a quality way. Thanks for your comments!

"Just try to be as expressive and honest as possible and your rating will improve and you may even reach on the no. 10" Incorrect. There are several members that do this and they've never seen a 10, or even a 9. For a layed out example, please refer to my response to this discussion.

What types of discussions really interest you then?

I had a really long response to your discussion all typed out when this site had a blip and crashed for a second. So, this is my second attempt: My star goes up and down quite a bit. I've noticed that my pay goes up when a lot of people mark me negative. So, I guess it's good to be rated even if it's negative. I remember when they started this rating system and I was against it. It seems to be a way for people to discriminate against other people. But, before they started with the stars, people were always asking about their rating. Maybe that's why they did it. I dunno. I was going to say some other things, but I can't remember now. I think I ate too much sugar today.

Ahhhhh...so the pay goes UP when you get marked negative? That's unusual...unless myLot is looking for controversial people? I can be a troublemaker too! Mine only went to 9; it hasn't budged since. Guess I'm not bad enough? Thanks for sharing and enjoy your sugar high!

I only know that whenever I get into an argument with someone here and my star rating falls, I earn more money. My rating really hasn't fallen all that much, either. But, I've seen a lot of people take a real hit lately.

I was reading a few other posts on thsi same subject. A lot of the problem is that people are going through whomevers page and rating all their discussions. So if you have a ton of discussions they can go through and give you a positive on each or a negative. Its ridiculous. Apparently, some guy admitted to doing this here on mylot with his friends. Trying to up the star rating this way is way to close to cheating for me. The point was quality of a persons discussions or the person themself. Not because they are friends or enemies. Dont get me wrong I like the idea of the star system, but they need to work out the kinks. And when people admit to tampering like this user did..I'm thinking they should be banned from having a star rating at all.

I rate my discussions--like I'm rating you with a positive, since you're contributing to the discussion. I only neg someone who is trying to stir up trouble, and not really adding anything worthwhile to a discussion. I do take into account whether they don't understand the initial comments (language barriers) and then I don't rate it at all. I try to be rather fair about my ratings. Thanks for commenting!

I was only here several weeks andwent from nine toten then someone did not like the idea of a newbie beng a nine so in the last three days someone or maybe two someones decided to shove me down some more to a pink six and I am still the s ame person I was at nine and ten. I am kind and respectful inmy discussions and in my responses. I try to make intelligent responses and discussions and respect all points of view so do not think I am doing anything wrong.I did get a very nice reply from MyLot which read thanks we are looking into all this. so hope that will help the situation .

I think you're Pretty in Pink! Seriously though, I agree--I try to be positive and post intelligent responses. The only posts I don't rate are the ones that don't make any sense (and I take into account the language barriers) or are just plain ignorant. I wonder if myLot was hacked recently, accounting for all of the ratings fluctuations?

Yes, but what it's purposes is still out to lunch! I guess there a very small, select group that knows exactly HOW it's supposed to work (and I'm not in it--WAH!) In the meantime--let's go post!

Most social sites have some sort of rating system. Most of them are misused (abused) by petty sophmoric cliques. This typically leads to some members getting their feelings hurt. The flip-side is that some other people and running around all giddy over their high ratings. Falsely high as they spend all their time trading ratings with their clique. This site is not about quality, it is about crappolla. As social sites go it ranks pretty low and is not taken very seriously and it's demographics are a complete joke.

We also have to remember--there are some people in our society who really think we can overcome our differences and all get along. This is a microsym of the world as a whole and proof that we can't (yet). I think a lot of it has to do with the introduction of paying for posts; what does $10 buy here in the US? Barely 2 1/2 gallons of gas (barely that in some areas), but in other countries it may buy new clothes, school books or medicine. I think that the founders had an idea of utopia, but then applied their rules instead of looking at our differences and celebrating them instead. Thanks for your comments!

Hi. Can you believe on the stars. I think i post reasonable postings all this while but look at my stars. It went down from 6. I dont know why. I have seen Lotters with stars as high as 9 with points of only 136 and their postings are rather brief. So I dont want to worry about that too much. Al the best to all of us.

It also could be that you were posting to other discussions and those people who rated you had a chip on their shoulder. If you look at the comment right above here, you'll see someone's opinion as to why the stars are going up and down so frequently. I rate a comment positively if it contributes to the overall discussion, even if I don't agree with their point of view. I think some of our members here are missing the point--similar to the original eBay ratings system (where you could rate anyone's transaction, instead of only one you've been involved with--theirs was abused too). Thanks for responding!

Wow was my response removed? That should speak volumes Scorpio. I'll just post my evidence against the star rating again. I mean the system should be dissolved or at least changed completely. You easily have 9 and 10 stars that don't measure up to other lower star members. I'll post a lighter sampling. Compare it to the efforts of some 9 and 10 stars.
