Children are brighter than we think........

I am an English woman living in America working as a cashier. Everyday I have customers commenting on my accent. Something struck me today. Americans probably have a 50/50 chance of getting my accent right saying I'm English all the rest think it is Australian (except the woman who thought it was German but we wont comment on that!). But it occurred to me today, when it happened again, that every child who has ever said something has got it right - if in a roundabout way - "Mummy she sounds just like Harry Potter!". Has your child ever amazed you by their observational skill or some comment that apparently came from nowhere?

My Great-Nephew - The custest little boy in the world.
My sister tells me about my great-nephew who is only two years old. Not too long ago, he was standing by her side while she was on the phone with me, he was putting his hand in the pocket of her sweater, pulling his hand up and out and yelling moneeeeey!!!!! He lives with two aunts who are both fifteen. His mom and grandmother. He also lives with an uncle who is fifteen and his grandfather. He is so use to the women in the house complimenting each other's hair, that he goes up to women, touches their hair and says, I like your hair. He is just the cutest little boy to me. He is very smart like his mother was at two.

Ooooh your nephew is the cutest little thing he'll be a heartbreaker when he grows up! It's incredible how they just seem to watch the world like sponges at this age absorbing all around them (and then frequently repeating the worst at the most inopportune moments lol).

My older son's explanations for things are really wierd (to normal people)...but if you do stop and think about hat he's saying...it's very logical....and I'm glad his teacher (besides myself) was the first person to notice it. Shows that she's paying attention to what her students are saying

It's always wonderful when you discover your child's teachers are special and think outside the box making extra effort for the children not just expecting and coping with the norm..

German?! how the...ehh nevermind, I really don't want to know LOL! I know my kids have amazed me with things they've said or noticed but I'm totally drawing a blank...all that's coming to mind are the horribly embarrassing moments when they asked loudly why a person was fat, black, missing a limb, in a wheelchair, talking "weird", old or otherwise different from what they are used to seeing...we do not live in a very diverse area unfortunately. I had to laugh at your Harry Potter reference though. One of my daughter's classmates moved here from England and that's exactly what she said about her new friend when she came home to tell me about her because she didn't think to ask where she was from when they first met....Daughter: She has a really cool accent! Me: Where is she from? Daughter: Um, I don't know...but she sounds like Harry Potter!

LOL I wonder if the actor who plays Harry Potter realises to a whole generation of children across the world he is becoming the "sound" of all that is quintessentially English.

I agree children are quite intelligent and sometimes dont even let you know they are so smart.I dont have kids but I do have nieces and they know plenty of things that I didnt at their age. They surprised me by telling me where baby's came frm
