I want to Hear Your Birth Stories!

Hi all. I am 7 1/2 months pregnant with my first child. I was marveling the other day at church when I spent 45 minutes listening to a group of women each tell me their different childbirth stories. Some were fascinating, others gruesome, but I found them all precious and exceedingly intersting. So, what I want to know is, what's your story? I'd love to hear.

Ok, it sounds like you need a GOOD childbirth story, So I'll tell you about my son. I had a REALLY easy pregnancy. A little morning sickness, but just from the taste of toothpaste (weird, huh) I was one week overdue and scheduled to be induced at 12am on July 19th. After eating a huge dinner (no food once you get there) and calling to confirm my reservation (yeah, people in natural labor get first dibs on the labor room) We headed to the hospital. I got checked in and hooked up to the pitocin drip by 12:30. Around 1am the OB checked me and said I was 3cm then broke my water. I don't remember that hurting at all. The labor pains weren't terrible, but I could tell they COULD get much worse. I was told that if I wanted an epidural, to let them know in plenty of time so they could get someone there to administer it. I was prepared to do this with or without meds but decided to call in the anesthesiologist around 4am. (luckly the lady in the next room wussed out before me and she was already on the ward) I was already curled up waiting to be poked when she came in the room so I didn't see the needle. She numbed the area first, so that didn't hurt. In 20 minutes I was pain free. I could have slept for the next couple hours but Baby Logan kept kicking the fetal monitor off my belly and the blood pressure armband went off every 5 minutes. at 7am the nurse came in to check me. I was barely at 4cm and she said I'd be there all day. I couldn't feel much so I passed the time by watching the contraction monitor. My OB came back around 7:30, told me I was at 10cm, and asked if I wanted to push. I said no, so he was going to deliver the lady in the room next to me. 2 seconds later he came back wearing what looked like a Hazmat suit and said "this shouldn't take long" I pushed 3 or 4 times, felt almost nothing and he was born 15 minutes later. No stitches, no tears. The staff started to call me "Speedy" Things can go off without a hitch, both me and my son were healthy and dischared after only 2 days. Don't let other people's stories scare you. Each situation is different and I am blessed to have such a wonderful experience. I am sure you will too. God Bless you and your new baby! Are you having a boy or girl?

no problem. there is no subject i like better than talking about my son. i got pregnant at 39 after struggling to get pregnant and stay pregnant for many years. i had one miscarriage at age 36 at 6 weeks so i was terrified i would lose this baby too. i felt it was my last chance because i would be 40 soon. i had a very difficult pregnancy but it was worth every minute. i had hyperemesis which is severe vomiting during pregnancy. not just your typical morning sickness. i was sick all day, everyday, several times per day. i was also working 40 hours per week so it was hard. then they did an alpha feta protein test and it came back with a high probability that the baby had downs syndrome and they wanted me to have an amniocentesis. i refused for 2 reasons. one because there is a chance you can have a miscarriage and two because it did not matter if the baby had downs syndrome because i would never abort it. it was my child and i would love him or her no matter what. i began having anxiety attacks and between that and the vomiting my doctor told me i had to cut back at work so i dropped down to 30 hours per week amidst some angst from my employers and co-workers who did not know how to mind their own business. i was due on january 11th and on october 28th i found out i had gestational diabetes and they tried to control it through diet at first but then i had to be taught how to give myself insulin injections. also i had to pay close attention to make sure the baby was moving each day and twice i did not feel him move so i had to go to the hospital but all was well. about 3 weeks before my due date i went to the doctor and he said my blood pressure was high and i had developed the beginning of preeclampsia and was put on bed rest. we knew at that time that my son was breach as well. i only wound up on bed rest for one day and the Lord intervened and my water broke and i went into labor immediatley. my beautiful little boy was born about 8 hours later via c-section and he is and always will be the love of my life.

Well my first child came 4 days late. When I went to bed that night I started getting pains in my stomach, but it just felt like a stomach ache. Well it lasted all night. my husband wasn't going to go to work but I told him to go. Well I made it as long as I could because I didn't want to call my mom too early lol. so I called down there and my sister came up and got me and took me to the hospital. i was already 4-1/2 cm. this was around 9am. I moved along pretty quick at first. They wanted to break my water, but I thought it would hurt so I kept telling them to wait. Plus I was so scared of labor I didn't want it to start lol. So finally they broke my water and gave me an epidural. It took some pushing to get her out. I'd push till I couldn't breathe and then her head would suck back in lol. So I'd have to start all over again. By 5 pm she came out. So all in all it was only about 8 hours in the hospital till I had her, which isn't bad. I had to get 6 stitches after she came out too. With my second one, the start of labor was weird. Sunday night I had very light cramps around 10pm. When I got up the next morning they were gone. then monday night when I went to bed the same thing happened but they were a little stronger. But again, when I got up they were gone mostly. Tuesday night the same thing, but they kept getting worse. by 2:30 am, i couldn't take it anymore. I went in to the hospital. i don't remember how far dialated I was, but when they asked to break my water I was like "sure go ahead" lol. the epidural wasn't great. the guy went to far and poked a hole in my spinal cavity. i only had to push about twice for my daughter to come out. she came around 9 am. when i got home though i could barely take care of her. I couldn't stand up because of the spinal headache. it felt like my head was going to split open. it took over a week for it to go away completely. with my son i didn't have to wait for labor to start. when i went to my 40 week appointment my blood pressure was up. they had me lay on my side and it didn't help. so they took me to the hospital and had me checked. my levels were up so they decided it would be better to induce me. I came back the next morning and they gave me the pictosin. by 4pm our son was born, with not too much pushing, but a little pain because the second shot of epidural hadn't kicked in by that time and his head was crooked to the side a little. i almost ended up with another spinal headache too. it took 7 pokes for her to get the epidural in and then she said she had gone too far so i might get one. i got lucky though, she did a patch on the hole and it held.

Well I have two children so this might take some time lol! My first baby I was pretty ill by the end with pre eclampsia so they induced me on her due date and nothing happened, the following morning they started the process again and at about 3.45 I got my first contraction and it was awful so so painful I was examined and was allready 7 cms, so they left me while they got a wheelchair and all my things together by then it was about 4pm and they wheeled me up to the delivery suite I was there about 2 minutes and had to start pushing I spent two hours pushing they had to give me an episiotomy as she was back to back with me but then she turned and was finally born, that was easy compared to what came next in that my daughter was so shocked from the uick labour she wasnt breathing and was rushed to NICU where she spent the first few days of her life before finally coming home. My second daughter it was even quicker, I was induced two weeks early and soon as labour kicked in I was taken to the delivery suite due to such a quick labour last time and was given some pethidine and the gas and air I started pushing 4.50pm and she was born at 5.05 really quick and easy few stitches but while she also wasnt breathing she came round with some oxygen. I think I had really easy births compared to some but I enjoyed the second more it was low lights and very quiet just as I wanted with her delivered straight to my tummy infact I pulled her up, I didnt with my first and as such waited nearly 24 hours for a cuddle because I asked for her to be cleaned and she was so poorly she was rushed off. Good luck with your birth and baby xxxx

I have four kids, and each birth was extremely different than the last. My first child was breech, with her feet folded up. Shehad dropped with her bum entering the birthing canal. This was my first and I really wanted it to be natural, so I opted to try an external inversion. DO NOT be fooled by the name of this procedure, it is not completely external. Docs had their hands up there and on my belly trying to turn her around. Well, things got complicated and they had to send us to the OR for emergency c-section. This was a very odd experience, being completely numb from my shoulders to my toes. The whole time, the surgeo is talking about his recent fishing trip. As he pulled my daughter from me, he says, "Yup she;s a keeper." My second birth started funny. I was in the hospital with my daughter(she had an asthma attack and was admitted). I was a day past my due date, and when the nurses came in to check on my daughter at 2 am, they bumped my cot. I woke up in a puddle, so they wheeled my down the haul to the maternity ward. I was in labor for 14 hours, 2 1/2 of those consited of pushing. I thought it would never end. I also woke up in the middle of the night, to realize my son was coming. My husband worked the night shift, and had borrowed his boss's cell phone so I could get ahold of him. I went to church and had a normal day, with mild contractions that had been going on for about a week. I woke up at 2 am, to go potty. When I stood up out of bed, my water broke. I tried calling my husband, but got no answer. I had both of the girls with me at home,, and no car. So I called my sister who lived about 20 minutes away. SHe came and got me and the girls and dropped them off with her husband. She got me to the hosptial where we proceeded to try to get ahold of my husband. The hospital was also having trouble tracking down my doctor. I was progressing rather quickly and having a lot of back labor. My husband finally showed up at about 6:30 am...maybe a little closer to 7. At this time we were notified that my doctor's car would not start. It was the end of January in Minnesota. Apparently the battery had frozen. SO I was left with the intern at the hospital. At about 7:30 I was instructed to push. I wanted to, but my body wouldn't participate. I gave it all I could two times, then the doc grabbed his head and pulled him out. He was born at 7:47. My last birth was the most beautiful. My husband was no longer in the picture, I was with a new man who is awesome! He was by my side the entire time. Rubbing me and coaching me. He was so supportive. I was 2 weeks past my due date. We had to drive an hour and some to get to the hospital, where we had scheduled to have the labor induced. They started the petocin at about 7:30 am, broke the water around 9, she was born shortly before 11.

well i was 18 when i had my first and only child. i was at home alone and started hurting and then i started to time my contractions. so then i called a neighbor and asked him if he would run me to the hospital. well when i got there i was already dialated to 7, so they told me i couldn't have the epidural since i was already at 7. well the pain got worser and worser, but luckily i was in labor for only 4 hours. so it was pretty awesome especially when the birthing was over. i got to enjoy a miracle. i look at having children a god given miracle because it's amazing how we can create these human beings so tiny and that are the most loving gifts we will ever recieve. i hope everything is wonderful for you.
