What does it say about a person?

I did it. If I can't believe it, neither will you, but I added a music player to my profile. Thanks LoudnProud! She helped me from having a major mylot profile tantrum. So its there and it got me to thinking (another challenge) that I wondered what the music in my playlist said about me as a person. Hmmmm.........Do you think that someone's choice in music gives you an insight into who they are? Have you ever had a preconceived idea of what you thought a person was like and then changed your mind based on their musical tastes? Without peeking at my profile what kind of music do you think I'd like and why?

Mmmmm..I'm not sure if having music on my profile could give a clear indication of my personality...I happen to literally love all kinds of music, from jazz, New Age, Classical...love many movie soundtracks...in fact the music that opens up on mine is the music from the movie Gladiator--mmm...could that suggest my fighting spirit??? Heehee Okay haven't been to your profile--mmmm..maybe a country western fan???...okay now I'll see if I was right

Is there anything else besides rock? Country and western? No offense to anyone, but patooey. Never have liked that wailing kind of stuff. Its as bad as listening to someone like Pavarotti, once again no offense. You are the second person to guess country & western. See you just can't judge the listener by the music.

anything about a person's taste is a reflection of who they are and that includes music, I don't know you will enough to guess what kind of music you like though. I like soul music or motown music of the 70's

sure you can tell, remember i have two psychology degrees, a person that likes all kinds of music, would most likely be a very well rounded person, some one that is more open minded than not, maybe even someone that likes to try out new things,

Well I don't know, some people like all kinds of music, so you can't really tell. I like some soul from the 70's also.

Yes I really do think music tells something about a person! I really don't know how to explain it... but it does!

I think for the most part it does too. Although, some people will surprise you.

I haven't peeked but I should imagine it is a real mixture from easy listening and relaxing sounds to a bit of rock too. I'm just off to check it out now though! Ellie :D

LOL. Enya, thats a NO! Appearances are deceiving. I'm not as mellow as you think. As for putting the musicedit profile add content (top right of page) html sortie add item then get the code from site & copy it into space. save changes Hope that helps.

This should be good... I am looking forward to the answers... I have a pretty good idea of what sort of a person you are after our various discussions. And I really don't think that music has anything to do with who you are. It has more to do with who you would like to be.

I could no more guess your music likes than i could twell what books you like to read. Do you really think we can guess each others likes and dislikes on the strength of a few discusiions here. I'll be interested to see how many guess correctly. It will be pure accident I believe.

Congrats on the player, I might have to have a look into that at some stage. I think you may be able to get a possible glimpse of a person's personality but no real good idea of what makes them up. I for example, in my teens I was largely a pop girl, a bubblegum pop girl even more so, I liked a few other artists chucked in (Garbage, No Doubt & TLC being the main ones) so if people spoke to me about music they probably would have thought I was some bouncy, preppy type or something but in reality the pop music was my escape from family dramas, I could sing at the top of my lungs and dance around my room when things got a bit too hard in life. Non musically the reality saw me rather dark, twisted and bothered I guess. Not your typical pop teen. :) These days listing what I don't listen too proves much easier than what I do listen too.

If the song is either vulgar with potty-mouth lyrics, or promotes and advocates a belief I feel very strongly isn't right (I tend to be especially judgmental about any song which paints conservative political views in a negative light, is hateful towards our president, or is anti-military... as a conservative I tend to get the feeling that people who play such music in my presence would probably decide they don't like me if they knew my political stance. It's kind of double-edged because I don't want people to assume I am liberal anymore than a liberal wants anyone to assume they're conservative. At the same time I find it to be a silly reason to pass judgment on someone's character... I certainly have friends spanning all the way across the political spectrum. So while I don't exactly judge a person's character/personality by that, I get the impression that they may react negatively to me as it is a sensitive issue for so many people with both sides' beliefs so strongheld and unshakable). Other than that, I am open to ALL genres of music... I love everything, and my list of favorites keeps growing and growing every day. Yes, I even love non-mainstream, in fact, I ESPECIALLY love the "weird" non-mainstream categories. As far as what kind of music do I think you'd like just by looking at your profile, it is impossible for me to make such a guess, as I don't think any of these profiles are comprehensive enough to provide enough basis for judgment. It's all just colors/patterns for backgrounds with maybe a few select photos here and there. However, when I look at the colors on your profile and your icon, it makes me think of music that is very lyrical and flowing, that expresses your feelings in a somewhat shy, intimate but tender manner.

Well done sweets but why put me on the spot with your musical taste? lol I learned a long time ago that you cannot judge anything on musical taste! I love so many differnt types of music from heavy rock to country, classical, pop, soul , r &b folk - good grief I am far too eclectic! As for you I would say you like a bit of easy listening , maybe some heavy metal but I am probably miles off the mark! Why do I think that - I have absolutely no idea - it is just a guess! xxx

hi kbourgerie what kindof music, I am so awful in guessing music for people but I would think maybe the Beatles and soft rock but I know I am going to be miles off.I am such a classcial nut and have become a Mozart fan in my last few years but I also love jazz and u2 so I guess I am more eclectic than i though. I do not think you like heavy metal and maybe you like softer music and maybe some country? YOu seem more laid back to me and not into wild music. so I am probably all wrong here lol You seem like a person who is modern but knows her own self and her own tastes too

Hmmm, well, you're very down to earth (if a little quirky) so I think you'd probably like more contemporary style music. Personally, I'm very eclectic in my music tastes (like Whoopi Goldberg in 'sister act'... eclectic means I like a lot of music styles) About the only music I don't like is trash, grunge, heavy metal etc. I don't even mind rap. The music I do like is rock, pop, easy listening, jazz, country, instrumental and even classical... depending on the mood I'm in. I think you can learn a lot about a person by what their particular musical tastes are.
