Are you a Barefooter?

Now that the weather is getting warmer, I'm finding that I'm discarding my shoes more and more and pottering around barefoot. I don't tend to go barefoot often in town because the stares I attract are a bit much for me, but I have friends who go barefoot for months at a time in summer. One wears long flares especialy to hide her feet! I like to wear shoes and socks in the cooler months as well. I get cold feet really easily and even wear socks in bed when it's cold. I think you have to be really hardy to go barefoot in all weathers. So how about you? Will you be casting off your shoes this summer? Perhaps you're barefoot already. Or do you think it's a dreadful idea and wouldn't consider it? I'd like to know why, if that's how you feel.

I don't remember me walking barefoot in ages.Inside the house it is the slippers and as I go out it is always the shoes.Mainly because our streets are very dirty here.

Many people have complained about the dirtiness of the streets. It's a real shame.

I used to a lot more than I do now because I have 4 cats that like to leave presents behind. Also at the moment, my yard is full of seeds and mud. Until it is nicer out and less rainy I wear sandles.

I have the cat issue too. That is why I am not barefoot often. I wear a sandle/shower shoe that massages at the bottom and crosses across the top, not between the toes. Not flip flops.

My cats busy it, thankfully! I like the sound of your sandals GardenGerty. I didn't used to like flipflops at all as I found the bit between your toes really uncomfortable. I've got used to them now though.

In the house--I'll go barefoot as long as possible! Now that I can't afford weekly pedis at the salon, I've got to wear shoes out of doors--my heels get so callused! And like you, I wear socks to be nearly year 'round--especially in the winter or else I can't sleep!

I used to be able to spoil myself (I LOVE to wear flip flops, since my bunions are so huge!), but I haven't had one in nearly two months! One of these days, I'll get my fake nails removed (my real nails are so soft) and then I have give myself my own pedicure. I HATE being broke!

I would LOVE to have a weekly pedicure. I think I've only had one a couple of times in my life.

I cannot go bare foot anywhere. I need my sleepers, when I am at home, else I wear my shoes. It has become habit to wear sleepers, if I need to roam bare foot in my home, I become unfortable. In cold months also, I cannot be without sox (like you), otherwise I develop a cold fee. I feel it is better to cover our feet, you never know if any invisible bacteria and dust etc. is there on the floor, which may harm our feet.

You are right, but even dust can make our bare foot dirty and look bad.......LOL!

Bacteria can't pass into your body unless you have broken skin, so i htink you're safe on that account. Dust won't harm you either.

Good evening GreenMoo. I have to admit I love the feeling of being barefoot - it feels so pleasant and free! I only go barefoot around my home and garden as it is too dangerous out in the streets and you could get badly injured! I live in Scotland where it gets pretty darn cold in summer sometimes never mind winter and I do get very cold feet but I use wheatgerm bags that you heat up in the microwave to warm them up - when it is very cold I do condede to slippers but not very often! xxx

I can't imagine going barefoot much in Scotland! I'm very much a warm weather barefooter, and the wheatgerm bags sound right up my street!

I used to like to go barefoot, but than my feet started to get all ugly,(not that my feet are pretty). so what I do is wear socks only. When I was younger I always go barefoot during the summer. As I got older, I started thinking, how dirty the sidewalks, streets are and that was a big turn off. So to answer your question, no I don't go barefoot. unless I'm at the pool.

I know what your mean, my heels get very rough, I also put lots of cream and put socks on, this way they will get soft. I tried the PEDEGG, omg, that thing cuts you. it's doesn't work, so who ever is reading this post, don't buy it. it's best if you go get a pedicure. or just put lots and lots of vaseline or cream and a pair of socks.

I live in FL and you would think that it would be really great for a barefoot gal like me but no the fireants ruin that. you don't dare walk barefoot in the grass here (or barefoot outside much at all) unless you like to get bitten by these horrid little ants. I love being barefoot and rarely wear shoes in the house at all. If it weren't for the pesky fireants I wouldn't wear them outside either. I have had my feet eaten up by fireants and the bites can last for weeks. Weeks of itching oozing bites is not fun let me tell you. Barefoot on the beach is great but I don't get to the beach often enough here.

i love to be bearfoot anyway either winter or summer i dont know why, but it is already my habit to be a bearfoot inside my home:), but i remember when im still staying in my province & go to school if the rain come i will remove my shoes & socks then wear them if im near in my school already, so my shoes still clean not only clean the big reason is we dont have enough money to buy new one if my shoes is already spoil then we dont have also enought money to pay the fare of the car so we need to wake up early & walk to reach our school for 10 years of my study.(6 yrs for elementary & 4 yrs in high school)

If I were ever a bare-footer, I certainly would not be one now. My brother-in-law got a horrible infection on his foot from walking barefoot. It looked like the flesh eating bacteria. When I would be talking to my sister on the phone, I could hear him yelling and pounding on the walls because he was in so much pain. My mother never let us go outside bare-footed when I was younger. I remember her always telling us to put something on our feet. Now, I can not stand the feeling for my bare feet on concrete.

I am a barefooter at home. Even if the weather is cold, it is still barefooted. I wear shoes out of the house or in any places where people normally put on shoes. The shoes are more to protect my feet.

I don't go barefoot very often. But in the summer I do wear sandals most of the time. I don't like to wear socks in the summer because my feet get too hot. But since I clean houses for a living, I can't be cleaning them barefoot so I take a pair of socks with me to put on at their houses. When it is raining I will wear my runners with socks. I don't like to wear runners without socks. I get blisters if I wear them without. But as far as walking around barefoot, no I don't, except when at the beach, I will walk in the sand barefoot.

I could wear runners without socks either. They would feel horrible really quickly.

Footprints in the sand. - Making footprints in the sand. Bare feet wondering around.
I like walking around the house barefoot but would not walk around the streets barefoot as our courtyard is very stoney so would be very painful on the feet. I cant wear flip flops as they give me blisters between my toes. I am trying to find a comfy pair of summer shoes. In the colder weather I do wear socks around the house but dont wear them to bed as my feet get too hot!!

Try Crocs. They are far more comfortable than flip flops.

I go barefoot in the house but never outside as there are too many stones and things to hurt your feet. In the winter I also wear socks as I get cold too, there's no way you could go barefoot in all weathers in the UK. Your feet would fall off!

I think you're right about being barefoot in the UK. Your feet do toughen up with time, but the cold makes mine hurt.

In the beach why not? Not in our house the flooring is cement and it's cold. Not in the streets because the sun is scorching hot. My feet might get blisters. Not outside our house because feces of dogs, is lying around. The only place i like to go barefoot is in the beach only.

The beach is where broken glass or cans are most easily hidden. Of all the places to walk barefoot, I find this the least attractive.

I'd love to go barefoot but we just have too many rocks and stickers around our place. So in the summer months, I wear sandals most of the time.

Rocks don't bother me but I do have a problem with the spikey stems of plants just after we've strimmed.

I've got bad arch support, so I can't go barefoot. Also, I wouldn't want to because I'd be the one to step on the piece of glass and slice their foot open, or toe off, or whatever.

what a shame you don't get to go barefoot. It's really lovely.

I have to be one of the original barefoot babes, I hate wearing shoes and boots and socks, I spend most of my life in sandals even in the winter. I love going barefoot when I can, and will happily go out with no shoes.

I will go barefoot in the house or wear socks, cause my feet get cold easily even during the summer months, when walking around the yard I always slip on some kind of shoe. My kids on the other hand will go barefoot everywhere if I let them. it doesn't matter what time of the year it is they just prefer to go barefoot.

I like to wear shoes as little as possible. I have been known, as crazy as this sounds, to get the mail in the winter (with snow on the ground) without shoes on. That being said though I also occasionally in the winter months like to wear slippers. I guess that most of the time I like the freedom of not having to take off and put on shoes.

I love being barefoot. In spring and summer I always walk in the garden and around the house without shoes or socks on if the weather's hot enough. I used to walk in town without shoes on and while I did get some funny looks it didn't bother me too much. Now I'm a bit older I think I'd feel a bit more conspicuous, which is a bit silly really. It feels so free not to wear shoes, and it might sound a bit strange to some people, but you just feel really in touch with the earth. You also feel as if all your reflexology points are given a good work out, so it's very therapeutic! I lived in a hot country for a little while and it was common for people not to wear shoes so I felt like I fitted right in. I loved it! I think at first it can be a bit dangerous to be barefoot as your feet are sensitive, so at the beginning you do have to really look where you tread. But once you've been doing it for a bit your feet get used to it and the outside skin becomes very strong and tough, so it doesn't hurt any more when you walk on stones or sharp objects.

I agree with you Liquorice. Walking barefoot makes you far more aware of your environment, so you are better in touch with the earth. I also agree that it gets easier on the feet the more you do it. You just don't notice rough ground after a while.
