i had noticed lately my wash load has been going up and up.everytime i turn around,it seems every towel we own is in that hamper.i think i know why now.i busted my mom using 3 full size towels.and she left them all on the floor for me..how nice. does your family do this to you? will they re-use their towels,or act like it suddenly has cooties?

Three full size towels, and she left them on the floor? Is she also the type who only uses them once? I only use two and I am not exactly a tiny person. One bath towel, and one smaller one for my hair. And I use them at least two or three times before changing them, and yet I still feel like I am washing them a lot! I didn't count the bath mat because that is technically not a towel, and I use that for a couple of days longer than the towels because I only have 2 bathmats.

yea,she is.she was in a chair for awhile, but now can walk..somewhat.kind of like a slow duck waddle. she needs help sometimes-but not with her arms.i put the hampers close to her so she can just reach over and dump it in.but she'll look right at you,and drop it on the floor.it's so frustrating.

Now I don't know your situation there, like whether your mother is disabled, or anything like that, but I think you need to talk to her about this, or it will drive you nuts eventually. Trust me, I am having some issues with my own mother, in my case it is more dishes and kitchen things but it's the same idea. (In my case, she does have some health issues, but I don't think anything that should prevent her from putting dishes in the dishwasher, etc.)

I reuse my towel and i wont need too many towels to dry off. I use a towel for almost a week before i get it washed. I have 3 towels and i switch to one another every now and then.

LOL .. very cool discussion, really. I think I need around 1-2 towels to really dry up, ha.. This has always been on my mind; I notice sometimes I hang on dry my towel after a shower and my mom would make a fuss about me not changing to a clean one. I mean, come on, I've only used it for a week.. wait! A week?? Dirty me, LOL.. Luckily she's around; if not, I won't have anyone keeping tabs on me to change to a clean one. And if I use 2 towels, I'll use it intermittently. I'm trying to stick to 1 towel and change it every 3 days or so now. Want to be as hygienic as possible.

as long as it's not dirty or the heat hasn't got to it (that wonderful moldy smell),i see no reason not to use it a couple of times. a week is kind of pushing it

i use 2 if i wash my hair also, but i hang them to dry and use them at least once more. in my daughters house i used to suggest this because she has 3 kids, 2 of them teens. she has mountains of laundry all the time. but they wont listen the poor woman.

yup, that's what they do to me also. my mom has to change clothes also a few times a day (she tends to spill things, shakey hands),which adds to the pile.

i use only one towel to dry myself off and thats all i need and then i hang it in the sun, so it may be dry and would only put to wash after 3 or 4 times.. No i wont let others in family to feel bad with my things falling all over the place and nor i would like others to not to hang them in sun .

Hi scarlet woman, well I'm definitely guilty of using two towels each time I shower, one to wrap round my body and one round my hair, but I do reuse them, after all I'm clean. The towels at this time of year do pile up though as we go the beach at least a few days every week and those towels need to go straight in the machine on return as the salt will need washing out from the sea water. Oops just seen this is a year old but it was at the top of my friends list!!

Well this is a case of an old discussion coming back to the top. Those beach towels get smelly if they do not get washed right away. When my hair was long I would use a regular size towel on my hair, but an oversize one on my oversize body.

oh yea..that beach brine is a must to wash out immediately. it's ok if it's an older discussion..i don't mind. i have one that's 3 years old that pops up again every now and then.

I need one small and l large. One is to wrap my hair up in and one to dry off. I do reuse them once. My son seems to unload the closet, one for the floor, one to dry off with, and one to wrap up in, I guess. It seems he uses more than that, but I would not know what for. I really know what you mean. He won't reuse any of them.

Everyone does their own laundry here at home, we also make good use of our own personal towels. After using them, we hung them outside to dry and then use it again. I think we change them depending on number of times we use it, so most probably a week. For me, I have two bath towels and one that I use for my drying up my hair.

I always use two towels when I bathe or shower. I use one of them to step out on and another one for my head and the rest of my body to dry off on. I used the one on the floor for my feet and my legs. I could actually use about three towels though. One to step out on, one to wrap on my head and another one to dry my body with.

I need 2 towels one for my hair and one for my body as I have long hair. I do have a thing designed for your hair that's made out of a towel like material and twists your hair up and has a button to fasten it, but if I can't find that I have to use a towel. I do reuse towels as they are difficult to wash and take a up a lot of room in the machine and put strain on it when it's spinning.

My fiance and I each have two towels that we use. I will use my same two for the whole week, and he will usually switch one of his towels around the middle of the week. I'm not sure why he does it, but five towels for the whole week is okay with me, so I don't question it. :)

We usually use one towel per shower/bath per person.. Anymore and I have a fit.. Since I do the laundry, I get to make the rules.. One towel is plenty and two is just too many.. I don't expect a towel to be used for more than one shower/bath, but don't use two for one time..

The towels in my house all contract cooties as well. I use two towels, one for my hair and one for my body. But I hang them up and use them at least two times, if not three. But NO ONE else in the house does this. I even catch the kids taking a clean towel out of the closet to clean up spills. This irritates me to no end. I have to wash all of our towels at least twice a week, otherwise we would have none. Its the same with the hand towels and washcloths. I swear I'm gonna catch that cootie monster one of these days!

Hi scarlet_woman! I usually replace all towels every three days. I don't have a lot of them in the wash load since hubby most of the used my towel. He is so stubborn. Even if I place his own towel at reach, he still used mine. haha..

My kids throw them on the floor too and I ride their butts about it. I think everybody in the house uses one towel at a time except for me. I use one for my body and one for my hair. And I do re-use them. But since I do the laundry anyway, I figure I can use as many as I like. :-)

Hi, scarlet_woman. We all try to use our towels for at least a week before we would throw them in the hamper. But, if the towel gets messy or has a bad odor to it then I will put it in the hamper. I could never use two to three towels in one week. If I was washing my hair, I could use one more towel along with my body towel. That is the only time that I or anyone else in our home will have two towels out.

you know what i don't understand, speaking of stinky towels- why someone hasn't invented a hamper that keeps the dirty ones from stinking/molding..like maybe with a charcoal filter? makes sense to me..

i use to towels, 1 for my hair and 1 for my body. i reuse them. but i dont use the towel my husbands used for his face for hygienic purposes. say what if he has warts hahahah sorry im too vain. but itd prolly tick me off too if my husband throws them on the floor after a single use. such a waste of water to do towel laundry over and over. we dont own that many towels to use them all up for nice towels are real expensive.

I use two towels, one for my body and one to wrap around my hair. Then I hang them to dry and will reuse them a few times before washing. I mean, after a shower the cleanest thing in the bathroom is ME, so my towels are touching something clean, so they should still be OK, right?

exactly, that's what i think,i should be clean. i can kind of excuse it in the summer though. the heat makes the towels just too funky sometimes
@fluffysue (1482)

Exactly, you're clean, so how are the towels getting dirty? LOL As long as they dry thoroughly they are fine to reuse. Though that is a good point about the heat. Sometimes in the summer when it's humid, it is hard to get them to dry thoroughly, especially thicker towels. That plus going to the beach and pool means a lot more washing towels.
