I enjoy making cupcakes and like seeing different frosting designs and colors. Do you use the same color frosting for all the cupcakes or use different colors? I like seeing a colorful plate of cupcakes, but realize it takes more time and food coloring.

When I made cupcakes for my boys, I made the main color and reserved some frosting to color differently so I could make faces or decorations like stars or geometric shapes. I liked the sprinkles, too, those were fun to use. Sometimes I'd decorate them with M&Ms or bits of fruit. That was one way I sneaked fruit into their diets! I always used applesauce instead of margarine, too, it didn't change the consistency much but cut way down on the calories and fat and made them healthier.

I use applesauce also, as its better for my family and friends. I'm glad I stocked up on big jars of applesauce, as apples have been costly lately. I liked how you added fruit to their food. My daughter loves fruit, but vegetables are a different story. She does like them more, as an adult, then her young years I'll admit before she sees this post. We don't all want to here Mom, I eat vegetables or some words similar to these words. She isn't on Mylot often, but has a very small friend list, so sees all of my posts. Thanks for the reply.

Never tried applesauce. I may give that a try. Would I use the same amount as the margarine then? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!`

Yes, you use the same amount as the margarine or oil. It does change the consistency a little but it really cuts the calories and fat! It's not a real noticeable change unless you, like me, were raised with cookies baked with real butter and good stuff like that! The kids won't notice, they'll love them!

I love baking cupcakes! I like to put a little bit of frosting in the middle for filling. Yummy! I usually use the same color frosting for all of the cupcakes, but then I'll put different colored sugars and sprinkles on top to make them a little different. It makes them look at least a little more colorful and it's quicker than having to mix up all the different colors of icing.

I sure love filling in my cupcakes. I'm sure missing sweets, as decided to lose a few pounds. I just might make up a batch of cupcakes and give away almost all of them, as one will be for me. Thanks for the reply.

Cake Toppings - Many types of sugary toppings
Yummy! I will add a drop of a couple colors of food coloring in the cupcake holders and run a butter knife through it to make colored swirls in the mix then cook them. Then I also like to add various toppings on the frosting. I once in ahile have made a coupld colors of frosting but usually just one color frosting and multi colored cupcakes. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I usually use the same frosting but I put different topings on the ccakes. I like to use springles or coconut or spangles.

Thanks for the reply. Sprinkles, coconut and spangles all would work for changing the cupcake.

I agree cupcakes are fun food. I made so many of them when my children were young. They were so easy to make for parties. Thanks for the reply.

If I'm making cupcakes, I like to have at least three small bowls of different colors of icing. I also like having colored (or just chocolate) sprinkles, perhaps some small candies, and other decorations. My favorite cupcakes are chocolate ones, with bright colors of icing and sprinkles. Yum.

I rarely make cupcakes. The last time I did was for my daughter's birthday party a couple of years ago. She did a spongebob theme. We dyed half the icing yellow and half blue and then the girls decorated them and then ate them. It was quite the hit at the party. Plus it took longer than just singing and eating cake. Will have to remember that for when the birthdays roll around again. Thanks for starting this discussion.

I have not baked cupcakes in a long time. I have always just used the same color frosting for each cupcake. I agree that the plate does look a lot nicer with alot of different colors of frosting but it takws mor time to do it that way and time is what I usaully don't have enough of.

I completely understand about time. Yesterday I wanted to do them in different colors, but just didn't have enough time. I have always liked making cupcakes for many occasions. Thanks for the reply.
