If you won the lottery would you quit your job?

So many people have asked this question, yet everyone gives the same answer. they all say "yes". I can't really answer this myself, as i am a stay at home mom, but i am curiouse to see what other people would do in that situation. Would it really be smart to quit your job? could you really live off the interst or the monthly payment they give you? or would you take the huge cut and have them gie you one lump sum?

I would NEVER quit my career! I would gladly quit my two part time jobs - shoe sales lady and bar waitress, but my career - not in a million years. I could have so much money that I sewed the bills together to wear it as a dress and I would never stop writing. My job as a writer I do because it makes my soul happy. It's one of the few things that matters to me on a level far beyond monetary goods.

Dear friend, It might depend how much I get, I may start expanding my present business and may not like to quit my job at present. But this may not be guaranteed as I am in a new situation still I may not sit idle too. I would give to charities or other welfare matters. Also may more opportunities to jobless may be given by opening new options from my investments. My job hardly I do like to quit.

I would not quit any job I had, who wants to sit around all day getting bored! If I was a new mother yes I would use the money to take a relaxing few years out until the kids started school but everyone needs something to do during the day!

Yes, in a New York minute. If I was a stay at home mom, I'd quit that job too. (smile) Quit, quit, quit! But seriously why take up a job that you don't need and someone else does. If a person wants to continue to work, they can always volunteer at some worthwhile organization. Depending on the amount that I won, I'm quite sure, that I would be content to live off the monthly interest. But I would prefer to receive a lump sum payment. I say this, because I don't know if that monthly sum can left to your heirs if you die before it is all paid out. Plus, (I know that it would still hurt my feelings), but whateve Uncle Sam would take out, it would still leave millions more than I ever had.

I am also a stay home mom but my husband always says No he wouldent quit his job because eventually there may come a time when that money is gone and then what. Without a job you will not be able to keep what you bought for very long. He would rather continue to work and try to keep the money he has left.

That is very true, i just asked my husband about it as he just got home, and he agrees totally with your husband, because between taxes and getting yourself where you would like to be, the money goes very fast.

I don't think that it would be smart to quit your job. A lot of people tend to spend the money as soon as they get it and then have nothing left after that. The lump sum might be a better option than the payments but even aat that at some point the money will run out. As for myself, I work in a group home for troubled boys and I would not quit my job anyway because I enjoy it too much to leave. I love to work with young people. They are so impressionable and willing to try to change. I feel that my job is more important than money.

if i won the lottery and the amount is a m9illion or 2...i would definitely quit my job and just sit the money in the bank,....then just spend the interest rate on it...

a lot of people have felt that way, i mean if you invest it right, then you should be able to live off the interest alone, if it is a large enough amount of money!

Hi There, I would like to say that I would not quit and would stay working, but that would not be the truth. If I won the lottery I would invest the money and live off the interest. I do love my job and it gives me a sense of worth...but sometimes you just get tired and need a break. I am not sure if I could pass up that chance!!! cheers,

very true, like i said before i am a stay at home mom, but back when i was working, i still don't think i would have quit, i would have gotten myself setteled material wise, foe me and my family then invest the rest and probably just take some time off. Just something i wondered about, to see what people would actually do in a situation as such.

I'm not really working right now except for myself,so that is kind of a moot point. I would consult with an account to see what the best way to handle the money would be. Actually, someone i know just won 30,000 dollars in the lottery,he had to pay like a third of it off the top in taxes.

Well, since I am young and a student and want to do extra classes but have to work to get money to do them and since I currently hate my job (you see where this is going right?) I would quit! Yes I would put it in the bank and try to live off the interest, or invest in an apartment building. But that is tons of headaches too when you get bad tenants... But basically I would quit and actually enjoy life to it's fullest and probably tell the boyfriend to quit his job too so we can do stuff together like travel, etc

Yes, I would quit my job. But I actually like my job and would want to make sure that my boss has a decent replacement. I would probably stay on part time at least, just because I enjoy it so much, and I have a flexible schedule as it is. I would not want to stay full time however, should I ever win the lottery, I want to travel extensively and having an job with responsibilities would cut into this. :) I was actually talking about the payout method the other day with my friends(our state lottery is up above 100 million again). I would take a lump some payment and them put in high interest accounts that compound frequently. Depending on what kind of lifestyle you want to live, and how you manage the money will depend on whether you could live off the interest alone.

Yeah you never want to leave your boss hanging in the cold, i don't know to many people that would wait around for a good person to take their place first.

I would splurge a lot, donate a lot and save up a lot but I love my job too much to quit - may take a lighter job if the lottery amount is big enough but would never give up my job!

Well it would have to be a BIG LOTTO and not only would I quite but my family would never have to work again. And I would take it as one big chunk so I would actually see my money and so would my loved ones.

money - bundles of money
i dont think its right for me to quit my job if ever i won a lottery...we still have to work even if we already have a lot of money or we die young because of lack of exercise....i think i have to start a lot of business to keep myself busy.i think i taking a huge cut is better than getting a lump sum to avoid over spending your money....

No I would definitely still keep my job, and would advise my fiance to as well. That money would go towards future expenses. I would save it for the children, and for maybe vacations, cars, presents, etc... but would most likely keep it all as that would make a great retirement thing.

It depends... If I win a small amount, I would still be an employee to the company I work for. But if I win a huge amount, I would definitely quit. And establish my own company. lol... No I will just start a small business, if I win a lot of money. I love to have an orchard. But I just needed the capital. It is so pleasurable to watch and satisfying that when you had work so hard and labored so much, that results will come back right at you. When you work, you do all the hardwork, almost everything, yet there are times that you will be scolded, insulted by your superiors even without a mistake. When you work all positive results will directly go to the owner. In working you sow, you harvest, you market, and you get a 1percent share from the earnings.

I like my job, so I wouldn't quit, but I'd take time off whenever I wanted to! My husband would most definitely quit his job - its hard on his body (he's not getting any younger). He'd LIKE for me to quit my job, but as long as I enjoy what I do, I'll stay.
