OK ladies and gents...How's about everyone gives this religion test (lovingly called the Belief-O-Matic LOL) a try and see if the religion you follow is the right one for you.. http://www.beliefnet.com/story/76/story_7665_1.html How many of you are willing to take the test, answer the questions HONESTLY and share with the rest of us not only what your top 5 or 10 results were but also how accurate you feel the results were...AND how you feel about the results let the games begin..

I was annoyed to see that all of the choices consistent with atheism were attached to "not sure" and "not important", as if an atheist is the same as someone who can't make up their mind on any of these subjects. Here was my top 5: 1. Secular Humanism (100%) 2. Unitarian Universalism (90%) 3. Nontheist (78%) 4. Theravada Buddhism (77%) 5. Liberal Quakers (73%) Number three confused me, as nontheism is a very general term that, in vact, includes secular humanists. Why is it its own category?

Yes most people consider atheists as fence sitters because that is what some are. Not to many people bother to find out what atheism actually is. They feel the same about agnostics, it is a bias in this religious world. As for the difference between Secular Humanist and Nontheist, well a secular humanist would be more spiritual while a Nontheist would be leaning more towards atheist.

I know what the difference between secular humanists and nontheists are. It's the same difference between green-eyed people and people, respectively. Secular humanist is a subcategory of "nontheist", which is just a blanket term for anyone who isn't a theist (which makes it identical to "atheist", as opposed to 'leaning toward' it).

1. Jainism (100%) 2. Liberal Quakers (92%) 3. Mahayana Buddhism (92%) 4. Bahá'í Faith (90%) 5. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (88%) 6. Neo-Pagan (87%) How weird! I was raised a Catholic but I don't feel that I have any faith. I don't know what I believe in for the most part. I often wonder how people come to be so stromg in their beliefs...where does their knowledge come from and so on. It's got me beat.

Well I took the quiz and answered as honestly as I could and I don't know if I whole heartedly agree with the results as of yet because I am still reading up on the religions it says that I am or most closest to. Here are my top 10 results: 1. Liberal Quakers (100%) 2. Secular Humanism (100%) 3. Neo-Pagan (96%) 4. New Age (95%) 5. Unitarian Universalism (94%) 6. Taoism (87%) 7. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (85%) 8. Orthodox Quaker (78%) 9. Reform Judaism (71%) 10. Scientology (68%) So what was your top 10 results did you feel they were accurate about what you thought your religion is or was?

They could have done better. Some of the questions were put in a certain way, that it felt that if you did not say "yes" you were a horrible person, like that one about helping the poor. Christians help the poor, but the main goal of a minister is to preach the gospel, not to feed the hungry. That is the main job of the deacons who use the offerings and free will gifts for that purpose. By the way, they were right, I am a Conservative Christian.

This was an EXCELLENT discussion! I absolutly love it. My results were: 1. Neo-Pagan 2. Unitarian Univeralism 3. Mahayana Buddhism 4. Hinduism 5. Taoism I was surprised, as were a lot of the other people that took it I saw, how spot-on it was. I am a Pagan in my own mind and it's kind of cool to see it confirmed.

Great link, Ravenladyj, thank you! I've always been curious about this, finding out what religion I match, because I've never been terribly interested in religion as a rule, and live my life as I think I should, as a loving human being. The only thing I was surprised about was the number one 100% matching religion, which is Neo Pagan - I know absolutely nothing about Neopaganism, but now I think I'll look into it a bit more. Here are the results, numbers 1 through 5. 2 through 5 I found no surprise at all. 1. Neo Pagan 100% 2. Mahayana Buddhism 93% 3. Unitarian Universalism 90% 4. New Age 87% 5. Liberal Quakers 84% Very interesting discussion, Ravenlady. I've very much enjoyed taking the quiz and seeing the results, thanks again.

Very interesting?? I had as 100% Reform Judaism! I don't even know what that is I shall have to research it out of curiosity, However I am and always will be a Christian. So I really do not put too much "Faith??" in the results but thanks for sharing.
16 May 08
Reform Judaism? From what I can see Reform Judaism is very similar to Liberal Christian... except they don;t believe that Christ was the mortal incarnation of God.

I just looked at the different information they had on the belief-o-matic, but no problem. :)

Roman Catholic (10%) 27. Jehovah's Witness (6%) Whew! I think the test was frighteningly accurate. I am surprised though by the high ranking of Scientology (perhaps that will need a second look on my part) and I am disappointed by how low Orthodox Judaism ranked. I did have some trouble with the test were some of the test pages repeated due to my pop-up blocker, but as a hardcore Discordian I have to accept the will of Eris and hold the results to be true.

Well I just took it a second time because I was not 100% sure of my answers to the first and this time it came at as secular humanist followed by neo pagan. I agree with this as I do not believe that anyone must believe in a god or goddess. It should be optional based on personal choice. For many years I called myself an agnostic before I discovered neo paganism. Humanists do not have to be atheists it is not compulsory. At the bottom were Islam, Roman catholicism and Jehovah's witness.
16 May 08
well, here I go again... finding it nigh on impossible to answer half the questions... And did anyone else notice the disclaimer? Warning: Belief-O-MaticTM assumes no legal liability for the ultimate fate of your soul. *snicker* Right... this is going to be a pain... no copy paste. Seems pretty similar to what I got yesterday, but this will be closer as I missed some answers yesterday. Secular Humanism (100%) Bah, I am NOT an atheist. But I do believe that science is the ultimate method to discovering the truth of the universe and therefore God. Unitarian Universalism (97%) *rolls eyes* whatever... Liberal Quakers (92%) This actually fits rather well... which scares me. lol Neo-Pagan (92%) Not a pagan. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (89%) Neh... that's neither here nor there. New Age (75%) Growls Reform Judaism (74%0 Similar to the Liberal Quakers. Mahayana Buddhism (70%) The general "be nice to each other" fits, but I don't believe in Karma... currently Taoism (68%) Hmmm, quite accurate, especially the good/evil part. But nothing on this planet is going to assign my role in life to me based on my genitals. Orthodox Quaker (65%) Bah! Theravada Buddhism (62%) Why does my spell checker have Theravada in it's dictionary but not Quaker? Anyway... waaaaaayyyyy off according to what they've written as being the basic beliefs. Nontheist (61%) *snort* Jainism (56%) Okay... one I've never even heard of. Neh, way off anyway, aside from some parts of their "enlightenment" beliefs. Bahai Faith (56%) Their salavation, suffering and some of contemporary issues bits don't fit me at all, but some of hits close. Scientology (55%) Basic beliefs are way off (cos... you know... made up) but their betterment policies are interesting. New Thought (51%) Ooh, interesting.. bit too er... New Ager though. Sikhism (48%) You wha? Christian Science (44%) How do they have the cheek to use "science" in the name of their religion? Won't bother with the rest as they're under 40% and not amusing. The closest label I've found to my main beliefs is Christian Henotheism... but even that doesn't really cover it.
