Flash Photography??? AARRGGHH!!!!!

I'm siting at the cafe, where I've sat every day since I've returned from Arizona. Some times it's more crowded than others. Right now the place is filled completely full!!! Not an empty table in the place, and the people are noisy. I have my headphones on, and I am enjoying my computer, so for once in my life the noise isn't bothering me. At the next table over are four people, having a great time. One of them pulled ou a digital camera, and passed it around the table, They all took pictures of eachother. The first flash startled me, the sixth one annoyed the crap out of me!! I have been known to take photos and even videos in public places, always making sure to aim the camera only at my target, and never using lights and flashes. The last video I made in a public place was aimed at the coffee table o this same cafe, on which I'd placed a gift I bought for my sister, that I wanted to show the wold, and the one before that, someone was aiming my own camera at me because I wanted a video of myself to send to someone. I'm not a creep who'd video strangers. haha Anyway, the digital flash photo thing has happened to me on the bus before, and that also annoys me. Anyone else sick and tired of random flashes in public?

I haven't really run into this problem before. I think that because I love to take pictures all the time that I am pretty oblivious to it. It doesn't really bother me, but it might be because it hasn't happened to me. I have had someone follow me and my mom down a strip mall taking pictures of us in each store until my mom went to her car and started taking pictures of our "little paparazzi".

If someone took pictures of me the way they did o you and your mother, I would have done the exact same thing as she did, and tried to beat them at their own game.

No problem. The English language can be a funny thing. The photographers you speak of are "professionals" who get paid big money to take pictures of people at their worst. These were just a bunch of people passing a camera around the table taking pictures of eachother. What irked me was that the constant flashing of the camera, though not aimed at me, hurt my eyes.

Most of Indonesian , small people can't afford to buy camera. But here, Bali island, most tourist use to bring camera even a video. Before, working at Bali island, i am a camera shy. Avoid cam anywhere. But then so many people ask to shot their picture with local, and they ask me. Then, i use to it. I see... may be they we interesting at my exotic facehahahaha! no way, sorry i just day dreaming. But now when people point camera, i just pretend to be an artist and they are the paparazi. hahaha

I know what you mean. Some places I expect it like events at the school but if I'm enjoying a nice meal, more then a couple of flashes get annoying.

I see people take photos with their cell phones all the time. I have not seen the flash ones yet. However, just seeing people holding their phones in the air wherever you go and seeing them freely take pictures of whatever whenever is a nusiance. For me, it is about the lack of privacy today....lack of civility. It is no longer 1950...

i also hate it when people take photographs and the flash gets into my eyes... it is really irritating... i wish people will be more careful when they are taking picture in the public using the flash... take care and have a nice day...

When i am taking photo for the newspaper I am very aware of who is around me and where my camera is pointed. The other day I was photographing a graduation and people were trying to get photos for themselves. I was careful toget my photo and get out of the way.

I will tolerate it. But it really annoys me if you are somewhere and they say "Do not use flash photography" and they still do! We ran into that at Disneyland last year when we were on vacation.

Can't say as it bothers me. With the onset of such quick and easy technology it's just a part of life now. It's not like it flashes directly at your eyes, as they're taking pics of someone else. Seems like everyone carries a phone with a camera or a digital. Guess it's part of life.

Though I seldom am around people taking photos using flash, I can see from your description I can see how easy it would be to become tired of it. I think that I would have to wear a pair of sunglasses in those area.

This has happened to me on several occasions, and everytime I get "Pynchon Style" paranoia. The flash itself is anoying enough, but the fact that I'm in the background (if its a public place of course) also irritates me. Video in public place is worse, whenever I see someone filming I make sure to stay out of the line of fire.
