Walmart Will Not Honor Internet Coupons!!

I printed out my coupons this morning and then went to WalMart to purchase a few groceries. When I got to the check out, the checker informed me that "Oh No, we can not accept Internet coupons." I told her that the biggest part of them plainly said manufacturers coupon on them, and they were all in date, but still I was told that under no circumstances could they honor them. The really sad part is that our local newspaper does not have coupons in it, on any day of the week. Have you had any problems using internet coupons that you have printed out? If so where?

I think it depends on the cashier. I tried once and was told no. I know a person that works at a diferent wal mart who said they do take them. She told me if I get told no again to ask for someone like a manager. I went the other day and used one and had no problems with it. The first time I had tried I didn't clip all the extra paper around the coupon. This time I clipped it nice and neat, not sure if that is why she took it or not. I would definitely ask some one higher in the company if you get told no again.

I sent the corporate office an email yesterday and am waiting to hear from them. I also told them I would not be shopping there until this is resolved, and I won't!

mehale - don't hold your breath waiting. I doubt Walmart will bother doing anything to help customers save money if they dont get a kick back somewhere!

I've heard this happen several times at different Walmarts. I haven't tried using internet coupons at Walmart because I get them in our newspapers all the time. However, I'd ask to speak to someone higher than the cashier that is checking you out so you can hear it from someone else. They may just not feel like ringing up coupons so they give you a hard time and just say no for the sake of being lazy. You never know.

Well, they did call a CSM to the register and she said no as well, but I have emailed corporate for an explanation and hopefully a solution!

I refuse to shop at Wal-Mart, so I don't know their coupon policy. I know that many of their policies are unfriendly, especially to the communities they build in. And, of course, there is their ignorance of fair trade products, of how they treat their employees, etc. I've simplified my life by just not going there at all.

I don't blame you a bit! And even though it will cost me more in gas and time, I will be doing my shopping in other stores from now on. I will use the grocery stores here and in another town about 30 miles away, the dollar store, etc rather than Walmart!

That is such a bummer! I have just started using Internet coupons and shop at Walmart all the time. Thanks for the heads up and telling me that they don't honor the Internet coupons. That will save me tons of time. I'll just take my shopping and grocery money to our local Albertsons or Winn Dixie. I think they will honor the coupons. I am finding so many wonderful printable discout coupons online, lately and I'm posting them on my coupon blog to share with the world. It's unfair Walmart won't help you out. I hope you find a store that will treat your fairly!

Thanks Beautyqueen! You might try your local walmart. Some of the responses to this discussion by others say that their walmart store accepts them so this may be on a store by store basis, I am not sure. I did email the corporate office and am waiting to hear from them.

I think that Target would, especially their own coupons. They have an online site where you can print and clip coupon for their stores. i think the coupons are only for whatever special they are running that week, but I think they would honor internet coupons.

I WISH we had a Target! The only department store like that within a 100 mile radius of our home IS Walmart! Needless to say they have a captive audience. LOL

I wish we had a target as well. I am in the same boat as mehale. We have a wal mart 4 miles down the road. Then the next closest store is a grocery store 15 miles down the road and then you are looking at another 50-100 to get away from wal mart or grocery stores. With gas prices so high we tend to go to walmart for everything.

I am not sure where you are-but I am a customer service manager for Wal Mart here in South Dakota and we take internet coupons. I use them all the time. I have never had any problems with them. I would ask to speak to a manager and let them know about this. I do know that we do not take competitive pricing from internet sites or the Wal Mart website but we do take internet coupons. There are a few exceptions such as coupons for Reynolds Wrap and the diet pill Ali(hope its spelled right) that have been known to be forgeries. I hope this helps!

I am in East Texas. It is good to know that some Walmarts do take them! Actually they did call a CSM to the register and she said no also. I have sent an email to the main office in Bentonville and will just have to see what happens from there! Thanks for the info...I appreciate it!

Our Walmart still accepts internet coupons, or at least they did the last time I tried using them there. I do most of my grocery shopping at the commissary, though, and they take most internet coupons, as long as they have a barcode on them.

I have sent Walmart an email and hope they will get this matter resolved. I wish I could shop at the commissary! And all of these coupons had the bar code on them - they did not even scan it to see if it would work! Just said no.

I have never tried to use internet coupons before, so I didn't realize that. That's really frustrating though because internet coupons are so convenient and have become so popular. It seems like they would want to keep up with the trend. I just recently printed off some internet coupons for the first time, but I haven't tried them yet. I wonder if you could try using them in one of the self-checkouts. I know some of them require you to take the coupons to a cashier to scan them, but I think some of them let you scan them yourself. I can't remember which kind Walmart has though. Well anyway, I hope that other places will continue to accept the internet coupons, cause they do have really nice deals!

That is a thought - except that our local Walmart does not have the self check outs! LOL Good idea though!

did you ask to see her manager? i wonder if you would have made a bigger stink about it if they would have changed their idea? seriously, you should write to the head of walmart and complain...i sure would!

They called a CSM to the register and she said no as well. I did send an email explaining the situation and that I was very unhappy about it and would take my money elsewhere until it is resolved. I also plan to call corporate on Monday. We will see if it does any good.

I tried using them once, several years ago, and was denied, so I never tried again. I think the reasoning is that since most everyone has a computer and various software programs, that they could create their own coupons or alter them in some way. And I believe some people probably have. Photoshop is a wonderful thing, in the right hands.

That could be true, but the bar code at the bottom of the coupon has to be valid for the coupon to work - they did not even try to scan them to see if they were real!

My Walmart accepts them. When I used them last week, the cashier said they weren't taking them for a time, but that they were accepting them again now. yes, she said it was something about forgery or people making up their own or something. I don't know...I just don't have quite that much time on my hands I guess.

I wouldn't begin to know how to make my own either, let alone have the time for it! But I have sent an email to corporate office and will see what happens - until then I will take my money elsewhere!

yikes. this is alarming. i would suggest that they put a post or an announcement that they do not, in any circumstances, accept coupons.

My thoughts exactly! I have sent an email to the headquarters and am awaiting their response - though it will probably be at least tomorrow before I hear from them.

I don't use coupons (probably should) but I can see why they don't, people could copy a bunch of em to take advantage of it. Did you talk to the manager? I had a simular thing at home depot, I worked construction,we had an accout there. When doing a state, city or county jobs they were tax exempt. Home depot had this form we had to fill out every time, I took one to the office filled it out and made copies, to save time. I tried it and the cashier wouldn't take siad it had to be on thier paper, LOL didn't make any scense, after throwing a fit, I called the mrg. over and he said it wouldn't be a problem, the cashier decided on her own not to take it. I spent about $5,000 a week there and the Mgr. knew it. tdemex

I suppose that could be, but these were the originals and besides, if they are going to have coupons online for us to print out, and they are manufacturers coupons - what is the point if the stores won't take them?

I use them when I get the chance, and since we don't get any locally I thought the internet option was a good one. Hopefully I will get a response to my email and maybe a solution to the problem.

The Walmart in my city will take your money anyway they can get it! LOL! :) It really is unusual to hear of them not acccepting Internet coupons, though, because they have an online shopping presence... Do you get Valpak coupons in the mail?

No, unfortunately we do not get them either. The only way we get coupons where we live is if we order the Houston or Dallas paper - and due to fuel costs the Houston Chronicle will not be delivering the paper here anymore either!

I've used them a couple of times and was balked at, but not denied. I haven't used any recently because they don't seem to carry any of the items that I have a coupon for. It's sad that they don't take them because more and more manufacturers are turning to the internet to publish their coupons. I think, eventually, the internet will be where most people get their coupons from in the future.

The problem is, we are getting too computer savvy. TOo many people have figured out how to "make" their own coupons for the amounts that they want and the companies won't reimuburse the stores for the bogus coupons, so the store is out x amount of cents and even dollars! Such a shame that our country has come to that!

Most of the stores in my area do not accept internet coupons and they told me it is because we print and copy them. We can print out as many as we want and that defeats the purpose of the coupon. I have slipped a few by the cashier because she did not realize they were printed out. Most manufactured coupons say do not copy on them and I guess this is why the stores will not accept the ones from the internet. I heard they are having problems getting their money back from the manufacturers and that is where our letters should be directed. If we let the manufacturers know =we will not be using their product because of this issue, maybe they will honor them more often and give the stores their money back for the coupons sent in.

My grocery chain where I shop won't accept them either. I was told there are too many people running them off on copy machines making duplicates of them. It only takes a few sneaky people to ruin things for us honest ones.

Okay... I just called our number one store Wal*Mart where I live. We do all our grocery shopping there and I have used the Bar Code coupons on purchases before. This is what I was told by the Customer Service Representative: They do accept Internet Coupons that scan, but some have a red flag on them, and they could not tell me which ones are flagged? Also, they stated that some of their stores do not accept them, hum.... thought all were the same here. So, I would suggest that you speak to the manager of the store where you live. In my thinking.... I have owned a store before, and it is important that you listen to your customer's needs. Wal*Mart was once very high on customer satisfaction. I think you need to voice your question to the management of the store. At least you gave it a try!
