Toss vegetables like potatoes and carrots with olive oil and garlic, then roast; make salad dressing with olive oil and vinegar. Add your favorite spices and let it set for a few days before using. Use olive oil to keep pasta from sticking together when it cooks. Use it in place of butter, or mix it half and half with butter for a healthy, soft spread. Olive oil is mostly monounsaturated fat, so it helps lower cholesterol and has been shown to lower the incidence of heart disease, among other things.

Olive oil is indeed very healthy. My wife have used it since we got married 30 years ago. We use in just about everything. One of my favorites is boiled potatoes (small or cut in quarters) add some olive oil, vinegar, sliced onions and salt.

I heard its better to use then butter. I seen on a movie that they used it to remove a tick from a dog I also know that when you have an ear ache that you warm up olive oil and pour it in your ear it soothes it. It can cost a bit more but if you ever find it at the dollar tree you can stock up. I find it once in a while and I only bought one last time and hubby said next time buy more. I looked at walmart and a bottle was $5.00 so I could get 5 bottles for that much.

I have heard that it is the monunsaturated fats in olive oil, avacados, some nuts, canola oil, and some other things that is giving the health benefits. I heard that it will help with weight loss, help control diabetes and help lower cholesterol. You can do a search on it and at one time I had a great link for it but I don't know what I did with it.

Yes, it is healthier than most oils (sunflower seed oil is good as well, I read). I use it for almost everything - salad dressing, in breads, stir fry, etc... BUT I read somewhere that olive oil disintegrates at high temperatures making it just like other vegetable oil (and maybe worse) so it's not recommended for stir-frying. It's good as a conditioner for very dry skin and hair - my mum used to soak her hair in oil for the entire day before washing it out and it makes it ultra silky!

I don't know all of the details about how healthy it is for you, but I love the taste and love cooking with it. I use it as a base for my sauces and use it in salad dressings and marinades. I don't fry things in grapeseed oil, because I've found that olive oil burns too easily.
