Charities.....do you have a particular one?

Yes one could say "charity begins at home!" but if you do support a charity which one is it? The main charity I support and have for many years even back in my "poor" days as a single Mum, and that is our Animal Welfare centre and the RSPCA. Each year around Christmas time I buy food and also through the winter months I gather scraps of wool and knit squares to make a rug. (Better for cat use) as dogs would rip it apart. LOL I have done this for many years and there is something I get from this knowing I have given something. In the days I was not working I did volunteer work at the op. shop for the RSPCA and that was fun. It is a nice feeling to have one charity to support for me no matter how small the contribution.

Hi caramello, I donate only to one charity it is called "God's Love We Deliver" they cook and deliver every day a nutritious, high-quality meal to people who, because of their illness are unable to provide or prepare meals for themselves - their service is free of charge. For men, women and children who are living with HIV/AIDS and Cancer. Donations is what helps to service this.

Hi howard, this is such a nice charity and one that you can only admire the people who support it. Quite a lot of charities rely heavily on support from people and the contributions they give whether it be time or money or even goods. And what better way to help these people but a nice meal that they can have some form of enjoyment for their day!

I do try to support as many charities as possible caramello but I do not have one particular one I am afraid! There are several childrens charities and cancer charities that I always try to give to and of course when there is a huge disaster I always try to do something to help although it is getting harder and harder to find any money to do this! I have to say that there is one particular charity called The Big Issue which produces a magazine every week and is then sold by homeless people to help them get off the street and into housing , they are then still part of the team until they are settled and on their feet. I usually look for my usual vendor when I go to the supemarket and buy my copy! Every little helps doesn't it! xxx

We have The Big Issue here mummymo and they sell them on the street around the shopping centres. There was a segment on the news awhile back as to how the money raised by selling these books went and for the small amount paid for the book it certainly goes a long way. And how right you are in saying "every little bit helps" as some charities just would not survive.

I especially like this one as it encourages people to help themselves and build up some self respect and dignity! xxxx

My favourite charity is the Donkey Rescue Centre who do a wonderful job here in Melbourne, I actually sponsor a donkey called Dudley and then I have put it on my webpage as a sponsorship by my webpage so this way they get a little exposure.

The main charity I donate to is the War Amps organization. It was founded by a Canadian after World War I to provide services and help for those who lost arms/legs during the war. It continues on today, helping amputees from all ages with obtaining artificial limbs, offering educational programs, etc.

The need for this type of cause would be a great one as to not let these people be forgotten. We have similar in my Country and while nursing I came across many who were in this situation and it was a nice sight to see the care that was given. Also fundraising plays a big part as it all helps.

There are so many worthy charities and so little money. We support a child through World Vision and give to the Missing Children charity. I can think of nothing worse than losing one of my children so if there is anything that I can do to help another mother I'll do it.

Animal Welfare is great, all the things they do do for the animals that "Humans" don't take the responsibility for is fantastic. The Deaf & Blind associations also do endless work for the not so lucky in our eyes, especially the young ones with an affliction.

I usually have a soft spot for charities that have to do with children and babies, like shriners, st.judes, and of course, the march of dimes, and back to sleep campaign. I love children and I love babies, what can I say?

My preferred Charity is the Canadian Cancer society, Telemiracle or the local SPCA (humane society). I make a point of donating each several times a year. The Cancer Society I also participate in the Relay for Life every year. Doing fund raising and the walking. The event is a blast. Telemiracle I am a member of the group of groups who puts it on every year. Its a Saskatchewan Charity which the money goes to those with medical issues/handicaps etc to make life better for them. It will help to pay sudden medical bills get medical equipment thats needed. So i donate lots of time to that as well as money. SPCA I used to spend time volunteering caring for animals when i was a student, now i try to help out with fund raising and through donations.

Our family sponsors a child through World Vision. We picked a child that was younger than our two, 8 and 5 so they could have a baby sister to grow up with. She is 2 years old. We plan one day to go to El Salvador and meet her when she is older, we want our kids to know that not everybody has it as good as they do, we are teaching love before charity.

well im not a card carrying one but i am a member of the ASPCA. if there was any charity that i would be giving to then that would be the one because i love animals. What they do for these beautiful creatures is amazing. I watch a lot of the cop shows on animal planet and i think to myself "i wish that more people were like that. i volunteered at an animal shelter once. i think that i would like to again. soon. but that will be after i get a job and i pay off some bills. my own living expenses unfortunately have to come first.

I am involved in many charities that involve children. I have a six year old autistic son. He was born three months premature. When I was going through a hard time with him in the hospital, wondering if he would live or die, many people helped me through. Because of those people, I got involved with the hospital where he was born and I donate clothing, diapers, etc. I am also involved with helping raise money for autism, childhood cancer and I work with my children's school district to help raise money for children within the district that are in need.
