Red licorice or black. Which is your favorite?

When I was a kid the only kind of licorice was black, I think its nasty. I would buy it and help fill in the cracks on the sidewalk, now they have so many other flavors. Twizzlers makes so many other flavors. Strawberry is my favorite, I bite the ends off and use it as a straw in a can of 7up or Sprite. What's your favorite kind of licorice?

I like all kinds of licorice, but I can't eat black licorice anymore because I have aldosteronism where my body puts too much out of that hormone and licorice causes me to release even more. So, I get headaches when I eat black licorice, especially in the afternoon. I've also had to cut down on totally sugary sweets because of my teeth, so most of the candy I eat nowadays is chocolate because at least chocolate has some cavity fighters. But, if someone passes me some red licorice, I will definitely eat it.

I am no a big fan of licorice, but when I am in the mood for it, I prefer red licorice. My mother loves the black stuff, and licorice flavoured candies. I like licorice flavoured hard candies, but not the black licorice itsself. I also like licorice liqueurs too.

gitfiddleplayer, I rarely eat licorice, but when I do, it is the red licorice that a woman at work brings. It is Twizzlers, and I think it is either cherry or strawberry. That is all I know. But if they have lemon, I think I might like that best of all. PearlGrace

It's so weird that you started this discussion recently, gitfiddleplayer, because I currently have a houseguest who brought 2 bags of red Twizzlers with her and keeps them in her bedroom! I think she told me they were cherry something or other and she always has a piece of it in her hand. She really raves over it and regards it as her "guilty pleasure." PearlGrace

I've had lemon, it didn't taste like I thought it would, don't know why.

I think I have to choose black licorice on this one. Granted, sometimes I get a bad batch, but like the licorice in Good n Plenty candy - THAT'S what I'm talkin bout! When it comes to red licorice, I pretty much like all of it. The only bad batch is a hard batch. I prefer the cherry flavor more than strawberry, though. And it's good to know I'm not the only one who drinks pop from licorice as if it were a straw :-D ahh, the basics we discover growing up .. lol

I forgot about Good n Plenty, maybe because I don't like black or white licorice, I still see the boxes, they haven't changed at all.

Black licorice is nasty, no one can tell me or you otherwise. I remember the green shoestring ones, you can still find the red shoestring kind, try a candy store in the mall.

Well as a "lover of Austrialan" Black licorice. I would say it is a personal choice. My dad use to bring me bags of strawberry and black mixed together and we watched Car 54 where are you? Nop my daughter is right there with you she hates even the smell of it. They also had little swirls of it that looked like 45 records and they had pink or yellow dots in the center. (Yes I grew up in the 50's the good old times) I order it by the case.

I've always hated normal red and black licorice, especially black. xD I just cannot stand the smell and tatse. I do like Strawberry and Cherry flavor twizzlers, though.

My 17 month old daughter discovered licorice last week. She really likes Red Vines, but she also ate a huge piece of black licorice. I tried to get my son to eat some, but after one bite he made a face and ran to the trash can.

I prefer the red licorice. My absolute favorite is the Twizzlers Nibs. Black I can eat, but not something I would go out and buy. I like most brands of licorice as well. I used to get Twizzlers all the time at the store when I was a kid, but I have grown to like the Red Vines as well. I remember those Super Ropes when I was a kid. They were like 3 feet of licorice.

I definitely prefer red licorice. Even just the thought of black licorice makes me gag. I hate when you try new candies and it turns out they have black licorice in the center. SURPRISE. Ew.

I can't stand black licorice! I can't even handle the smell of the stuff...it makes me throw up if I smell it too long. I can't take nyquil without holding my nose otherwise it would go down and make a return trip in a hurry. It's unfortunate because my BF loves the stuff and I can't even really handle buying the stuff for him. I love strawberry or cherry vines. But it has to have a really good flavor-I have had them where it is like chewing a rubber band rather than a good piece of candy.

I like cherries but they don't like me. Chewing a rubber band, that's funny. Maybe Twizzlers can come up with that flavor.

Yeah, twizzlers are great...I like the strawberry ones too, the other day my nephew was here and he bought a whole bag of them, and of course they didn't stay around too long..lol. I thought about that, using them like a straw but I didn't try it...lol.

Hehe...I have some strawberry ones right here. That's my favorite. I don't care for black licorice which is kind of weird because my mom prefers it. Maybe my mom is the black licorice sheep of the family...lol. MY daughter likes the strawberry and does the same thing you do. She uses them as straws. Is one of the few foods I don't yell at her for playing with...lol.

I actually hate licorice, I always have. My mom thinks i'm nuts because she loves it. She prefers the red stuff, definitely, but she likes the black too. She could eat 'Bassetts licorice Allsorts' all day long.

I cannot stand black licorice! Yuck! Now I can sit down and eat a bag of red licorice until my stomach hurt! lol Either cherry or strawberry will work for me :)

If your stomach didn't hurt after eating it, you didn't do it right.
