Wash or re-use your bath towel?

I know some people that hang their bath towel over the shower rod to dry so they can use it again the next day. They figure they were cleaned when they dried off, so the towel is still clean enough to use again. This is to help cut back on laundry, which also cuts back on water, electricity and soap. I mentioned this to my mom and her reply made me laugh. She said there is no way she is going to take a chance on wiping her face on the same towel that dried her butt the night before. So what do you do? Do you hang them and reuse them the next day or just put them in the washer after one use?

haha that is funny what your mom said . I will usually re-use mine once and only once. As soon as i get out of the shower i put lotion on , and the towel smells so good and clean , i do see the point in throwing is the dirty pile. My soon to be hubby though i dont think you would wanna use his towel again , and i always throw it in the dirty pile. Peace all and have a good night !!

My husband doesn't like to re-use his towel. He says sometimes it smells kinda musty, especially when it's humid here during the summer and it doesn't dry all of the way. Plus, with the work he does, he comes home smelling like jet fuel. The smell really stays with you, so he won't re-use his towel. Even after washing his clothes (uniforms) they often still stink. He wants a nice, clean towel after he showers, just to make sure the "stink" is as gone as he can get it.

Butt/Face Towel and soap - You should get this for your mom, lisado !
I will hang up a towel when I am done drying off and reuse it the next time I take a shower. No sense in wasting time and money to wash something that it still clean. Assuming you wash well in the shower. I actually saw a towel once that is half white and half brown. It said butt on one end and face on the other.

ROFL I've seen those! I thought about buying my mom one but somehow I don't think she'd think it was funny. :) Her sense of humor isn't what it used to be. lol

Hi, lisado. To avoid having the same wash cloth. I will have a seperate one for each. One for my face, and then one for my body. That way, I won't have to use my face cloth on my body. I think that it is nasty to use your face rag on your body. Not unless you will wash your face first then, wash your body with it. Then after this is done, then you will throw it in the hamper to be washed.

I re-use my bath towel for a few days before having sent to the laundry. It's pretty hard to wash towels and I found that sometimes towels lose their softness when they're washed too frequently. You know what, some designing student took a towel and drew a silhouette of a body on it - he said that since he's a dormer, he reuses his towel often and that drawing a body on it makes it easier for him to know which part he used for his butt and which he used for his face and he wouldn't mistake the other for the other :D It was pretty ingenious and the professor liked his presentation. Thanks for the response on my discussion!

I reuse the same towel a couple of times before I get a different one. It helps cut back on the laundry and I try to cut back any way that I can. It also comes from when we were younger and didn't have a washer and dryer. I hated going to the laundromat and we would use the same towel a couple of times so we didn't have to go to the laundromat quite so often.

I use two towles and reuse them once a week. I have one for my body and one for my hair. I will hang them over the shower curtain rod to dry after each use. I don't feel like I have to get a new one every time.

I reuse towels, but then I usually have separate towels for all purposes. I use two in the shower (1 for my hair), and then I have a hand towel by the sink that I also use for my face. I will change all of these maybe twice a week. My mom would have killed me as a child, if I had used a towel once and left it for her to wash! lol

Wow! your mother is something else, is she trying to say that if after you are done with your shower or bath, that you are still not clean enough? LOL! The whole point of the shower/bath is to get clean right? So the towel itself is just used to dry off the clean water from your body. I re-use my towel for at least three to four days before I toss it in the dirty hamper...but hey, thats just me.

Interesting philosophy about the butt and face situation but I dont mind using the same towel on both MY butt and MY face.I also have no problem reusing the same towel especially if it is todry my skin after I have had a bath.My thinking is that since I have just had a bath ,I must be pretty clean and wouldnt mess up the towel too much ,hence it should be pretty clean also .

I hang my towel to dry even if I don't reuse it, it smells like mildew if I don't. Sometimes I do reuse it depending on how many towels are left and when I will go to the laundry mat again.

I guess I do not towel off in the same manner as you mother! I don't really wipe myself off with the towel, but rather just used it as a wrap to keep from dripping on the floor. I do not wipe my face with my bath towel. For that I have a face towel. I also use a separate towel for my hair. I do hang the 3 towels on the same hook, but I really don't think I'm going to give myself a germ, at least not any germ that didn't belong to me in the first place, lol. Maybe you will be able to find a gag towel that shows what part of her anatomy should go next to which end of the towel. Nah, she might not think that is as funny as we do.

I will re-use my bath towel for a day or two but other members of my family like a new towel everyday. I just don't think you need a new one everyday and it sure would help on the laundry as well.

Well, your mom's answer is interesting. To me it's just a habit that I hang the towel there and reuse it the next day. It's quite natural to me that I don't even double what to do to the towel. But I do have some friends who have 2 towels. One for wiping the face and the other for the butt Maybe your mother can try that too.

We usually just rehang them and continue to use them for a few days before we put them in the hamper. I don't see any reason to use a new one every single time. We would be washing towels on an almost daily basis if we used a new one each time.

I tend to use two towels a day: One for my hair, and one for my body. I use the towel I used the day before to wrap around my hair, and a new towel to dry my body with. So, I do a little bit of both here and there.
