possible to train an outdoor cat to be an indoor cat?

It isn't easy when you have a cat who just loves to be outdoors all of the time, not seeming to care about the 98-degree temperatures and humidity. But I think I've finally gained the upper hand, simply by refusing to give in to Maxie's piteous cries to be let out. Period. I'm not used to dealing with outdoor cats anymore, but think I'm doing the right thing by having Maxie stay indoors in a centrally-air conditioned home for a change. My goal is to ultimately train outdoor cat Maxie to be an indoor cat. What are the chances of doing that?

You have a very good chance of keeping him inside. That would be the best thing for his safety. All you have to do is never let him out. It won't be easy, but you can do it. I wish you tons of luck. Just be firm.

So far, I have been. But that cat never gives up. He's usually laying down right at the outside door. Before I open that door, I'll raise my voice and tell Maxie to GET DOWN. He runs down the basement stairs immediately --- but not for long. As soon as I open the door to get back inside, he's right there, all ready to worm past my legs and out the door. I grab him before he has a chance to run out.
