I know that some/alot of people these days have insurance issues. But after that, why do you think so many people don't goto the doctor when they should?

may be because some people don't get sick, and there health is great, but some people who really need to be at hospital or visiting doctor they don't, may be the afraid of being told bad news or they don't like doctors, or afraid of medical mistakes.

it could be several reasons they don,t go, fear of finding out what is wrong, fear of dr. office,or maybe they will have to get a shot [ouch], i personally do not have ins. but if i did i would go if i were sick or not sure of what is going on with me. today medicine is so far advanced and is able to conquer a lot of medical problems. i hope your appointment turns out ok. have a wonderful day.

Oh, you mean people like me. I have insurance, but I never go to the doctor. I really need to go, but I just never make an appointment. I have not even picked a new doctor since I moved to where I am now almost a year and a half ago.

There are two ways to look at it, Lily. One, some people are hypochondriacs and spend a lot of money running to the doctor. The other point of view would be an emergency visit to the ER with chest pains. Good to try to keep a balance, I think. :)

Straight-up FEAR. All money and insurance issues aside, just plain fear. What will be, will be, whether you go to the doctor for it or not. If you know something is "not right" within your own body, go to the doctor! For example: You have a mole that's concerned you for a while, and then it begins to change. You blow it off, "No, I don't want to hear that I have skin cancer. I may have it, I may not. I know the warning signs, but I still don't want to hear it!" Then a new one appears, and looks nothing like the first one, but worse, and smaller. What then? Do you call your doctor? Are you still afraid of what you'll hear? Just because you don't hear it from a professional, does that really mean that you don't have skin cancer? Or does it just mean that you won't get treatment for something that doesn't have to be fatal? Doctors are not people to fear, and neither are dentists. Yes, it may hurt the first few times you go, but if you went more often, it wouldn't hurt in the first place! These people have dedicated their own lives to helping others live healthier and longer--so give them their due, and help keep yourself healthy!

I do go..but who likes to take off thier clothes and let strangers fondle them around? Not me! I think that's why lots of people won't go? My husband doesn't likre to go often. he says the more he satys away form them , the healthier he is. He feels the medicines they give are more dangerous than the illnesses! (May have a point?)

Denial. People like to live in the land of denial. It is hard to admit that you have a problem. Admitting you have a potential health problem brings fear about the problem. This can all be psychologically avoided by denying the problem. Of course, in reality, any problem would jut be getting worse...

I think that in general, people are afraid of going to the doctor. Sometimes it is in fear of finding something else that is wrong. Sometimes it is a fear or phobia of doctors in general. I have a huge fear of needles so when I know that I am going to have to get a shot of some kind, I put off the visit for as long as possible.
