So Loving This Show!

I'm interested in becoming a criminal profiler myself, and have already got all the info about study etc that I need, but this show is just the best! It is giving me an insight into what I will actually be doing. Being in Australia, we are about 1 season behind those of you in the US, but that's ok. I am a patient girl. 2 nights a week, I now spend sitting on the couch with my basket of washing to fold and just take it all in. One night is reruns, but I find I get more out of each episode each time I watch it, and the other night is all new, so it is all good. So, in your opinion, how realistic is Criminal Minds? What do you like or dislike about the show? Is it a must watch show for you, even if that means giving up another fave show?

Hey good one. I discovered I was very interested in forensic pathology long before there were tv shows about it. It was, im my feeble opinion, too late for me to have a career at that stage. I was working in a bookshop at the time and in my early 40's.

Start saving then. You have littlies too and you need to share their journey of education. It cost an arm and a leg to get an education these days. I studied the collection of pathology specimens and wanted to continue on and do laboratory skills and techniques but none of the unis near me carry the course. I could pay a small fortune and do it correspondence from a uni miles away but I wouldn't be able to make the tutorials. Good luck to you.

We are lucky enough to have the government pay for our studies. When we start earning a certain amount, then we have to start paying it back, but its worth it.

It is never too late to learn about it though. I'm almost 30 and am determined that even if I am 50 before I get to start my studies, I'm going to do them anyway! lol.

I know they have an actual profiler who consults for the show, and the producer is a former cop, so I would think it is realistic. Although I wouldn't know from any personal knowledge how realistic it is. Anyway, this is currently my favorite show, and despite the critics, I think it should be regarded as one of the best on tv. There's no other show I'd rather watch on Wednesday nights (when it airs here). My favorite things about it? The team. Three dimensional characters who care about each other and about the victims and are flawed but good decent people doing their best to catch monsters. I love how intelligent it is. Not just about profiling. I'm not really watching it for that. I mean, they bring up questions about what makes us who we are, what makes us different (or the team different) from the unsubs they go after, empathy, responsibility - and they don't always give the easy answer. I don't like Rossi. Don't think I ever will, but there are 6 other characters I love. But, I suppose the thing I hate most about the show isn't the show. It's the critics and others who see it as just a cookie cutter procedural, only worse than all the others because it's so sick. I don't think it's sick at all. (Sorry I went on and on. I just really love this show)

I thought they had a profiler working with them, but didn't know the producer is a former cop, interesting. Criminal Minds is also my fave show! I used to love CSI, but being more psychology minded, I can take it or leave it now. CM really fits in with what I plan to study and I love being right about cases too.

Hi newzealtralian, Criminal minds is a very good show, and like you I thought it was based on true life facts and cases. No matter, if I can catch it, I will watch it over anything else. My schedule does not always allow me time to watch it. It is such a fascinating show. Always different. Even re-runs. Happy posting..

I get more out of each episode the more I watch it, so welcome the reruns!!! We have 2 nights a week, and one night is reruns, but still loving it! Tonight, I'm spending the night on the couch, folding washing and losing myself in the show! lol.

I enjoy watching Criminal Minds a lot and like the characters on the show. I don't know how realistic the show is because I'm not a profiler but it seems to be close to what I would expect profilers to do. Good luck with your studies and I hope you enjoy them.

Thanks! i'm going to love doing my studies. Might take longer than normal, but I have a family to look after. I was always under the impression that the cases used were based on fact, and other respondants are saying the same, but it just seems so realistic, even down to the statistics they use (I have looked a few of them up). Hope you keep enjoying the show. maybe one day, they will have cases that I have worked on, but don't hold your breathe! lol.
