My son would rather eat dog food than some of his baby food

Granite, some of that stuff smells funny. But it's just puree whatevers on the label. I tried to give my son some of the new ham and egg baby food, and well he didn't hate, but it wasn't something he wanted to eat a lot of. Normally, he will eat peaches, but this evening, he completely spit them out. So that was that. We went back into the living room to play. He made a break for the kitchen, and got into the dogs bowl and shoved a handful of dog food in his mouth. ICK. And he screamed when I took it away. Have your kids ever done this?

Wow, I gotta think...I think she spat out some green and orange stuff, but the weirdest things she ever put in her mouth were a little rubber captain from a bath set (quite a funny picture) and a rock--ICK! I don't know WHAT posessed her to do that!

Ick. My little boy will pick up absolutely anything and stick it in his mouth. Includeing rocks. His favorite toy to chew on there for a while was a rubber pelican.

I'm so grateful that my daughter didn't have any teeth yet, but she was chomping down to beat the band! I was VERY upset with my mother-in-law (monster in law is more like it!) for not ensuring that her house was baby proofed...and not noticing that my daughter had a rock in her mouth! I'd probably not made such a scene about it, but about 7 or 8 months before (when we were staying there), I came home from work with a touch of the flu and laid down. I must have slept through my little girl screaming in the next room. So what does my mother in law do? She lies in wait, watching ever so carefully while I prepared my daughter's bottle and began feeding her. Then she attacked: I was abusing her because I slept through her screaming for a half hour. Um, if I didn't respond, why didn't YOU come and get the baby, or at least try to wake me up? Needless to say, we moved out within a month...NO ONE will tell me that I'm abusing my baby when I'M the one supporting the family! (Gee, why didn't you raise a man?)

lol, I know what you mean. I go spend time with my so called in-laws, and I know she doesn't do it on purpose, but she always has little suggestions. Why don't you do this this way? I'm going to clean this off because it's dirty (when it's not). She sanitized all of his toys. It was a nice gesture I guess, but they were fine. She asks me to do the dishes the one time I was there, and I was feeding Joey, and I told her that I was busy, and then all of sudden I became lazy. It is my biggest pet peeve ever to do other people's dirty dishes. She's offered for me to live with her and her family quite a few times, and I just don't think I could live with her and her "suggestions" and more or less her lifestyle. I think I've said too much already. Icky Rocks.

I think every kids has ate something of this nature. Mine has eaten the dog food at least once. They are fast and make it to the dog bowl before you can get them away from it. I don't know why kids like it but a lot of them seem to. But as gross as it sounds I would think blended up foods have to taste kind of nasty so in truth the dog food probably taste better. I think the grossest things one of my kids tried to eat was a dog tick. My child thought it was a raisin and went to stick it in her mouth luckily she was caught before she ate it.

Ha I can see the sneakiness. I remember when mine ate stuff like the dog food and boy they were so funny when they were being sneaky about it. One of mine would even crawl on his belly like an army man. I guess he thought if he was low enough I would not see him. LMAO.. Enjoy it all cause they grow up so fast and then all the cute things they did are just a memory.

I enjoy every moment with him. I guess that's why I've been putting off getting an out of the house job and I've been looking for more ways to make money at home. That's so adorable ! I'm sure my little boy will be doing that as well. We have a gate that separtes the living room and the rest of the house, and boy does he make a break for it every time we take it down.

AHHH!! That's scary! I'm glad she didn't eat it. Some of the mixed foods smell funny, but he ate the ham one, at least some of it, and completely spit out his peaches. He instantly goes for the dog bowl if he gets out in the kitchen. He's really starting to be sneaky about it.

Lol. This is funny. But this only shows that people have different tastes.Hehehe. When your kid grows up and you tell him about this, he will definitely laugh at it.

Or, die of embrassment. I have little siblings who tell the story just to be retarded. But, yeah, just partition the food from the kid and I think he'll soon learn that he's not supposed to eat that stuff.

Have you tasted some of that stuff? I don't blame him. My daughter only ate baby food for about a month. Once she tasted real food there was no going back to baby food. She only ever put cat food in her mouth once. She spit it out. She is 16 months old now and she will sit on the floor with the cat while he is eating and hand feed him.

It definitely wasn't icky to him! LOL I can't remember any of my kids eating dog food, although as teenagers they did try eating dog biscuits. They said they tasted ok, but all I could think was Yuck LOL Maybe there was something in that particular dog food that the baby really wants to eat? Beef, hopefully :)

lol, i've been trying to give him some of the mixed baby foods with meat mixed with vegatables, and he hates it. He certainly seemed to like the dog food. He puts everything in his mouth.

So long as they aren't wondering what poisonous things taste like, I guess it's okay LOL

My daughter never did anything like that before. I wander if he really likes the taste of it? I think that maybe he is just doing that because he sees the dog eating it. Maybe he just wants to try it out LOL. I wouldn't let him eat it either. That cannot be good for him at all, even though it is safe for a dog. There have been so many dog food recalls lately also.

That's what scares me when he picks up stuff. Everything goes in his mouth. The dog food hasn't hurt the dogs yet, so I don't think this bag is bad. But if he can get it, he eats it. He loves eating paper.. and bills..

kids eat wanted to eat any kind of foods but sometimes because of the taste they refuse to eat. it's amazing your kid eat dog food, never heard and never saw a kid here do the same. better you include your kid in your dog budget. LOL. am just kidding. anyway, don't let your kid eat dog foods because that is for dog onluy not for the kid.

I stumbled upon this discussion of yours and had to laugh. My son at that age used to rifle through the garbage can to see what's in there. If he would come across food, he'd try and eat it. We had to watch him closely but he was sneaky and would sneak to the garbage can, when he thought we weren't watching. It was too funny, but also very yucky. And of course there was the mud and rocks and stuff that had to be taste tested. YUCK! He still has a fascination with garbage cans but won't try to eat stuff out of there anymore. If we'd had a dog or cat, I can fully imagine him trying to get that food, lol. Them little ones just have to try everything and stick it into their mouth. Yet, the food they are supposed to eat, they not always want;)

My daughter eats the cat food on a daily bases. The doctor said it wont hurt her. I think it's gross. Does not matter where I put the bowel of cat food she always seems to fined it. She eats it and tells me yummy. yuck. I think it is kinda funny now.

I used to eat biscuits as a kid, but dog food to me just seems gross. He loves it though. I can't get him away from it.

Funny thing, when I was a kid, I did the exact same thing. I vaguely remember Mom talking on the telephone, and I was just eating away. Now, Mom say's I looked like a chip-munk. Well, put the dog food up, or partition it so that the dogs are on one side and the baby on the other. Feed him at the regular times he's got all reayd and if he doesn't want to eat, well, he will soon as he realizes he can't eat the dog foof!

lol, my little boy stores the food in his cheeks just like a chipmunk. And everything goes in his mouth, hungry or not, that's where the dog food or anthing else is going to go. He's not aloud near two of the three of our dogs. I'm afraid he might get bit for messing with them or their food.
