Do you get stuck cooking the same thing?

A few weeks ago I decided that it was time for a different dish to be cooked in this house. I was getting tired of dinners that are just tossed in the oven and finished a half hour later. I discovered we had some stir-fry vegetables in the fridge so I made a shopping trip to buy some sauce mix and some soy sauce. We had plenty of rice (because I like using rice to make the vegetables go farther in the meal) so I didn't have to worry about buying much. Now it seems anytime stir-fry is invovled I'm the one that is chosen to fix it. We've had it about twice since I first decided to fix it and I'm about to fix it for dinner again this evening. It's kind of frustrating that I'm the one chosen to continously make the meal. Do you tend to get chosen to fix certain meals in the house? Is it because you're the one that fixes it best or is it because you're the one that just kind of fell into the job? Do you mind making the same thing over and over again?

I didn't really begin to cook until the last few years of college..up until then I kind of relied on my mother's or grandmother's cooking which quite frankly...uh, sucked...LOL...If they could burn water they would have. The only time I got a so-called decent meal was when my mother would toss in TV dinners. So then I got involved with cooking myself..and thank goodness I must have inherited my great-grandmother's skills as she had been known as THE cook of the family...I discovered I had a real natural flair and knack for cooking, and even embarked on trying my hand at cooking French foods...crepes, quiches, the works...after that I kind of inherited THE cook status and actually didn't mind cooking all the time...neither my grandmother or mother were given to experimenting or trying new ways to cook...uh, mainly since they didn't cook well. So it got to be fun...one night I'd make a French meal, another night Oriental, another Spanish. So rather being frustrated by being the chosen one to cook I loved it

I primarily do all the cooking - however, I have to say that since it's become warmer my husband has been grilling the meat - which is a nice healthy alternative! I can say that every month I'll probably make the same few dishes that I make during the other months. We always seem to eat spaghetti once a month, along with tacos and sometimes stir fry once a month. I guess they are just kinda comfort foods that we are used to eating every month. At least there are different cultures involved right :-)

For awhile it bothered me that I was the only one who had to cook in the house. I wanted my spouse to cook more often. But when he does cook, the food don't taste good. The only thing he cooks really well is microwave scrambled eggs. Those are delicious. The other day he asked me to scramble up some eggs in the microwave, but I told him that I had better not. Unless he didn't mind getting sick! I don't cook eggs very well. And sometimes when I do cook them, they are under-done. He cooked them up and they tasted fine. As far as cooking goes, here's my best tip. Buy a used indoor grill online at Ebay. You can get a George Foreman grill machine at the Walmart for less than twenty dollars. Then follow this simple recipe. Lay out a large sheet of aluminum foil. On top of that add three to four slices of meat, veal, chicken, pork, beef, etc. Then top with favorite spices. Next add slices of onion, carrot, frozen stir fry veggies and anything else you like to eat. Sprinkle with spices, again. Then close the foil so that the juices don't run out. Then grill until done in the grill machine. When it's done, it'll taste so good! And it requires less than five minutes preparation time. And you are not stuck in the kitchen. Usually cooks in less than thirty to forty minutes. Serve up over microwave rice with bread! And you're done. This formula has revolutionized my life.

I subscribe to Kraft magazine. They send me a new issue four times a year-for winter, spring, summer, and fall. It's a magazine full of recipes. They're all pretty easy and most of them taste good. Plus they send me an email every few weeks with different recipes. So far I haven't been cooking the same thing unless it's really good or I don't have a lot of time and I just need to do something quick and easy. I like trying new recipes as long as they don't take a lot of time. I'm not really much of a cook. I like simple and fast and good.

I would love to change our dinner menu routine but I don't have much imagination and my husband is picky so I guess we're stuck in our rut for the most part. I tend to stick him with cooking when it's on the grill, mostly because he likes to do it and I have been known to set small fires. His chili is much better than mine so that's his territory, too, but other than that I'm the designated cook.

We do get into the routine of the same dinners especially when $ gets tight. When I notice this and can afford to shake things up a bit I break out the cook books and tell the kids to each pick one thing we have never had before to put on this months menu. They love it because they get to pick the meal.

I am the main cook in my house and usually cook 99.9% of the time. I do however get tired of fixing the same thing week after week, month after month, So I will be creative and make new things for myself but my husband won't try half of it because he is such a picky eater and doens't like stir-frys which I absolutely love. But when we have family get togethers I am always choosen to make potato salad and cole slaw always and it seems like no one wants to make it and so the chore go to me I wish once someone else would make it.

Yes, I do the cooking of course. Who else would do it anyway? There’s my hubby who’s good for nothing like most Indian males and my kiddo who’s only 8. and yes again, I am stuck in the same routine day in day out. I try to keep it simple on weekdays and on weekends its something more elaborate and spice but even that’s becoming a regular menu now. We too have rice and veggies at home so wonder how you do them together? Do you make them like Chinese veg friend rice?

My roomie is normally the one that cooks. So, I had taken chicken out of the freezer the other day. I threw it oven to bake while I went to get the roomie. When we got home I made mashed potatos and she fixed canned veggies. She was pleasently surprised to find dinner about ready when she got home.

Well I love to cook and try new recipes. My husband is usually still working during our dinner hour. He gets out of work around 7:30pm and is home around 8 at the earliest, so I do the majority of the cooking regardless. The nights he is home he will usually do the cooking, and he does have particular dishes he makes, because I like the way he makes it better than the way I make it. There are a few dishes that one of us had made the first time, then the other did it better. Such as when we first started dating I made him my special mashed potato recipe, now he's the one who makes that every time we have it. Then with pizza, he was the one who made it first, because he worked in a pizza place and did it better, then I made it and he said he liked mine better, so it was my job. Now somehow it's gone back to being his job. The only part I do is mix up the dough and sauce, he does the rest.

I usually the one that cooks the meals in our home. The only way to get him to cook is to buy meat that I know he will want to grill and then he will offer to go outside and do that. Also, he likes his italian cooking better than mine so if I buy things to make that I can get out of cooking also. You may want to try these things. Good luck and no I dont think one person should cook every meal....it gets old.

I've started cooking 2 months back; previously I was too busy to cook. Now I find that it's even more difficult to plan what to cook, than to manage an office. I don't know what else to cook - and I'm always stuck with the same old dishes - stirfry, baked, grill - that's it.

hello, i am the only cook at home coz my hubby do the earning job and beside i enjoy it a lot. i try to come up with different meal in a week, i think meal planning will help you a lot to the monotony of the meal. my hubby loves whatever i make and he dont mind if i repeat it like many times in a day BUT i do mind as i dont like to repeat a meal even in the same day. he works at home so i have to come up with 2 different meal in a day and it sure fun sometimes as i need to figure what will make his taste buds laugh LOL we are in the process of dieting right now so i dont have to serve different dishes at a time, one is enough as it seems to help us in so many ways, haha. do you cook for your family? parents? siblings? do you work? i dont work so we are both at home all the time and that gives me enough time to prepare something. do you enjoy cooking? sorry i asked this as it seems that it becomes a job than a hobby, i dont know as it is some kind of a hobby to me now. anyway, i hope you find an answer out here. have a good one!

Well my dad and I share the cooking in the house but there are some dishes which he just refuses to make, probably because to him it takes up alot of time. Plus it's the "fancier" dishes that I make most of the times. My dad usually does curried potato and chicken, stewed chicken with peas, cassava, plain rice, split peas, pelau, curried duck, roti, BBQ chicken. That sorta stuff. I can cook all those things as well but he does it usually. I am usually doing fried rice, buttermilk biscuits, oven fried chicken, normal fried chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, lo mein, aloo choka (potato choka), pizza and any other fancy recipes you can probably think of. Do I mind, not really. Sometimes doing it over and over just improves your technique and the taste of the dish too. I have noticed this many times.
