Do you like silence or noise? If you are facing absolute silence for more than 10 hours, can you like it? For how long you can tolerate silence?

Theres rarely anything akin to true silence. You'll always have the sound of the environment around you - bugs, birds, traffic, sounds in the distance, the creak of a house settling. You'll even have the sounds of your own breathing, heartbeat, movements. If you're thinking silence from other people It occurs and it bug me Around here the closet to true silence is when the power is out and all you can hear is the natural, non electrical sounds from outside and your own body. I don't mind silence. Its just hard to come by

If I'm trying to read, I prefer silence. If I'm busy with something quiet like dusting or hand sewing, I want music or even the TV. The TV always gets turned on at noon and again at 5 PM for the news, but that's just a habit. As a child, I lived in the country where there was no power. We got along fine without TV, radio, or even a phone.

hi snakequeen! it really depends on the situation, whether i love silence or not. i like silence. i love to work in silence. when people are pestering me, then i can't work. however, when it comes to my husband and i know he is in a bad mood, silence can really eat me up. i hate the feeling that silence brings. that means, there is bad feelings between us. I also really enjoy silence with i spend time with God. i appreciate these alone times with my Savior. anyway, i am just glad for silence in its appropriate time. good day and God bless you! :)

i like silence over noise, but not absolute silence. the chirping of birds or the sound of the wind or waves is still considered silence for me because they're calming and serene. i can concentrate better and relax when there's little distraction. but total silence can be as bothersome as noise because so many things come into my head without brakes. minimal stimulus from the environment is good because it can help keep you from thinking too hard and prevent thoughts from coming all at once.

I like it when I am in that disposition, it gives me that time to evaluate my life Yes, I think I can survive in a 10 hour silence. I joined a retreat back in my college days, it was a retreat supported by the religious organization I was into. We were 30 participants and we were obliged to be silent for three days. Even an eye contact is prohibited because it is also a way of communication. So we eat together in a table, and we don't speak to each other. The retreat was more own finding and knowing the inner you, by knowing and accepting who you really are there you can find an inner peace. Also it trained us that despite being surrounded by 30 people, peace can be attained. Silence is equals to peace, calmness of the self... I would also like to share after the three day activity of silence, a friend commented that in those times that he was experiencing the complete silence that complete silence for him was deafening, it was too loud for him that his head was about to explode.

I don't like silence most of the time. I usually have music on or I can hear something in the background like a fan.

I like the quiet environment but I would feel nervous when it is too quiet.Noisy environment will give me a headache while absolute silence could make me mad too.A absolute silence environment can give people a feeling that he was in the jail or even tomb.I don't think I can stay in a absolute silence for one hour, that kind of environment can only make me feel nervous and not to relax. So we should understand why the prisoners who stay long in the prison would be unusual.

Silence is golden and I can stand it for very long periods of time. Of course I now live with two females and a noisy cat so I don't get that much silence anymore LOL

I can stand facing silent environment for hours, but facing "absolute silence", I don't think I can't. I would be very unusual. But who knows, I haven't experience such thing, maybe I can stand it if needed.
