One of my favorite things to do is read classical books. I've started a collection of these books at home so that I can just pick one up and read it whenever I want to. I wanted to own them myself rather than borrow them from the library. That's the great thing about classical books for me--I can read them over and over again. Some of my favorites are Emma, Pride and Prejudice, Portrait of a Lady. I love the elegance of the characters, the beautifully detailed descriptions of the settings. Right now I'm rereading Portrait of a Lady.

If you enjoy classic literature there are so many books you could check out. Try Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe. It is about a Nigerian Tribe: a wonderful novel. Also check out Jane Eyre, Whithering Heights, and Sister Carrie all of them are great novels. I too am building a collection of classic lit.

I have Jane Eyre--you're right, that's a good one too. I don't have Whithering Heights but I have read it. I have not read Sister Carrie though or Things Fall Apart. Thank you for the suggestions.

Hi chitchat, welcome to mylot. You are right doing this. In the future you will own a beautiful little library. I have mine too and can tell you that it is the best thing to do. I agree with you that the classical books are great since I have many of them. I love the books you are named but I don't know Portrait of a Lady. Who is the author? The others are from Jane Austin and this one?

Portrait of a Lady is by Henry James. It's this wonderful book about a girl who moves from America to England and everyone she meets is fascinated by her. You should read it. I think you'd like it too.

I bought a set of classics for my kids when they were growing up and I reread them too....Robinson Carouse....Black beauty etc. Now they grandkids can enjoy them too...it was a good investment for both time and money.

I am a collector of classical novels too. Charles Dickens is one of my favorites. I have a nice collection of Charles Dickens' novels.
