how to stop getting skinny?

I have a friend who gets slimmer and slimmer by the time we met and I think everyone just becomes very worried about her weight. She said that she ate normally and she worked in front of computer (her work was very mental consuming job) and she also became worried just the same. We know she must have a lot of stress because of the tension of the work. I wonder if the working style had put so much burden on her mentally and it resulted in her "getting skinny" condition. We suggested her to drink milk everyday, to eat more and she said she did. We asked her if she lost appetite, but she said that she didn't lose, only that she often ate late because the employer seemed push the workers to 'overwork' and they often got late in having break for lunch. I heard that she often ate after 13:00. I wonder if she never got stomachache from often having late lunch break. I wonder if eating late would result in becoming skinny like she was, any suggestion for my beloved friend? We even start thinking if she got malnutrition from the foods she ate. I asked her if she still drank a lot of tea, but she said that she had stopped drinking too much tea for months and no help for gaining more weight. I'm very concerned about her condition. Many thanks for your input.

I have the same experience of what your friend is experiencing right now. I too become more skinny when I was still working. Stress, work load, and not eating at the right time is what I blamed in my condition. After a few years in work, my husband give me an ultimatum to leave or continue to work and he will be the one to leave so ofcourse I resigned before anything else get's worser. After a few months from my resignation when I get enough rest, I eat on time, I avoid stressful work and I relax myself, that's the start when I gained weight again and save my body. Maybe your friend needs a rest, relaxation and practice to avoid stress.

Anex, my comment above is similar to yours. Stress at work, can cause many health issues. Unfortunately, no one in my household is working, so that is only creating another form of stress.

hi anex08, also hi to sudalunts. I guess she is quite at the same condition with your description on your own experiences. She has been working there for around two years, and pretty much hated the employer that kept her busy even when it should have been the lunch time. We have told her to leave the job, but she said that her task couldn’t be delegated to the new employee(s) yet and that’s what made her stay at the company. But I feel as if the employer had actually manipulated her to overwork. The reason she stayed was because if she resigned from the job, she wasn’t sure she could get a better job soon while she still had to afford the family somehow.

Hey there bonkarpasang,I think the reason behind why your friend eat a lot and still be skinny is because of her high body metabolism. The work she's doing will have an effect on her weight as well but since she is eating late then she should gain weight because People who eat late and then sleep will gain more weight. I think she has high metabolism therefore she might need to eat more than she normally eat.

hi koharukusumi. oh, high body metabolism ....? so you mean that the metabolism is over than the amount of the foods she has eaten? hmmm ... I think that's one of possible explanations, because she kept saying to me that she craved for foods even when it was just two hours after she ate. I would recommend her to bring some snacks (cake or mini bread) to the office if it's possible for her to have break within the working hour. thanks for pointing it out.

Is she working too hard and avoiding meals? Maybe she needs some fat in her diet. Has she seen a doctor? There may be a medical problem. If the doctor says she's okay then I wouldn't worry about it.

yes, I believe she is working too hard. she doesn't avoid meals but she often got late in having lunch breaks because the boss still insisted on discussing the works, just imagine the situation of having boss like that. often having lunch when it's already 13:30. :( I told her to get more dairy foods to support her, she had seen the doctor and got some advices back then. most of us told her to quit from the company. she said she still seek for the right time to quit.

It definietly sounds like it is due to job related stress, and it is normal for people to lose weight when under stress even when they are eating normal. But just in case there is a deeper problem, she may want to look into having blood taken to check her thyroid levels. A thyroid imbalance can cause people to lose weight, while the other type of thyroid problem causes people to gain weight, she may have the former condition..it couldnt hurt to get it checked out.

hi successlog, thanks for your recommendation, I will check it out. yes, it's quite ironically when people tend to get slimmer but my friend has gotten too thin out of her control. and we also recommend her to eat more fruits and vegetables to keep her digestive system become healthier, since we also wonder about her digestive system's health. it seemed as if all foods just went through her body and then disappeared to nowhere. :( probably this is some kind of psychosomatic problem that has caused her get thinner day by day. :(

I was very stressed at my job, and lost weight, but then again, I was not eating. I didn't take a lunch break because of the pressure at work, and maybe sometimes, when I got home I may eat. I am now unemployed, and my eating is now consistent. I have gained another stress, which is financial, but I am trying to overcome my worrying, and pray that all will come together.

hi sudalunts, thanks for sharing your experience and I’m sorry to hear that you have been through such condition. Hopefully you will get a better job that would give support more for your financial and far from any stress. I have suspected that my friend was very stressed at work and it had consumed her energy and physical condition very much. We have told her to find a new job and she said she couldn’t leave the company yet for some reason. I guess she is truly experiencing the same boat like yours back then. Thanks for your input.
