Well we went to the store and mom parked in the handicap spot and put up the handicap placard. Well apparently it fell down while we were in the store and we came out to find a ticket on the windshield. How wonderful a $250 fine if I can't get them to see reason. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

I would just bring your mom and her handicap placard to court with you. Hopefully you can get out of the fine. $250 is a pretty big fine. I have seen different amounts for the fines in different areas.

I am going to call them on Monday cause we don't drive downtown. Yeah $250 is high but that is what the fine is here.

I'm in agreement with Lilybug on this one. She has a justifiable reason for being in the spot and did put up the notice in her car. Just cause it fell down is not her fault. So definitely fight the ticket. If you can show proof, then most likely you won't have to pay! Just be sure to tell them everything you told us. Best of luck.

I called disabled services and I have to send in the ticket with a copy of mom's driver liscence,a copy of the placard, a phone number, and an explanation and the ticket will be dismissed. Thank goodness cause we can't afford $250.00

I would go to court on the court day and bring your mom and the paper work and the judge will dismiss it. It is to bad you have to go through all that.

I am going to call them on monday and see if I can't get it straigtened out cause we don't drive downtown. Too many big bridges and no parking whatsoever. And we are not familiar with downtown either.

That's absolutely unbelieveable!!! o it's never happened to me, but were I you, I'd present them with evidence (not just the plaard but some other documentation) proving that you HAVE the right to park there. You shouldn't be faulted because the dang plackard fell down.

Hasn't happened to my hubby but where he puts his handicap placard it can't come down till it's actually removed by him or me. Even the wind can't remove it.

It doesn't sound very fair to you if you really had a placard. If it fell down, was it still visable? Could you take a photo from the exterior of your car to show that it's there to support your claim? And do take your Mum with you when you try! I'm glad that they do try and dissuade people who park in disabled bays without reason in your area though. Here, they just ignore them and it really bugs me.

That would frustrate me too. :( Sorry I don't have any advice but you shouldn't have to pay the fine.
