It is 2008 and I feel that in this day an age gay and lesbians are still not accepted. When people see a couple they will stare of turn around or keep looking. People do not look or accept gay and lesbian couples as a normal couple. Why are people so judgmental why can't people mind their business. Why is it such a show for them? Its not something new. Regular people with a different interest. Why is it so hard for people just to look past it? What do you think? Do you think they will ever be accepted? Why do the states make such a big deal with the gay marriages? Why can't it just be accepted as for its been out in the open for enough time where its just there and its been there even if people did not know about it. It is sill for one state to accept and for another not to , isn't it one country THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. What happen to people rights?

I don't understand why anyone would care one way or the other truthfully. And I'm just as confused as to why there are post after post on this topic lately. So they are gay? Who the heck cares? Maybe I'll start a post about being straight and see if it gets as much activity. LOL

I agree. I think society has come a long way as far as accepting gay and lesbians, however we still have a long way to go. The good news is we seem to be making progress. I'd like to think that maybe one day gay and lesbians will be completely accepted in society. I don't know... maybe I'm just foolishly optimistic.

Gays and lesbians - I don't think that the society is comfortable with that kind of behavior as for now.
Hi. I am from India and here Gay or Lesbian is a strict no no in the society. I have recently head that some countries have allowed gay and lesbian marriages and I personally won't mind gays in the society, if they don't come close to me for a relationship, I surely won't, but society is definitely not too comfortable with them.

I live in Ontario Canada, next to a Gay Community. Our town was too small to support the big Stores, and too big to dry up and blow away, but that was about to happen, until the Homosexuals gave it a second chance. They saw an opportunity and seized it. Artists, potters, woodcarvers, weavers, and artisans of many descriptions moved in and bought up the town of about 400 people. The front street has been redecorated, store fronts brought back to life and our little town blossom's once more. These Gays have been totally excepted, and to turn it around- the Gay community has totally accepted the Heterosexuals in Their Community!

Dear friend, As you quoted I too agree taht gay and lesbian are yet to be accepted in many places may be majority of countries. I hope the social structure, customs and cultures all these effects these people. I also feel they are a part of society which are not taken much important unless few gays shout or go for leagal fight. Still I hope they too are a part of society with a different taste and urge. May be if they are majority what would be situations of other who are like normal now.

I think it depends on where you live. I live in CA, and yes they are very accepted, and now have the right to get married. CA is very liberal in some aspects.

I am in a business that deals with many types of people every day,gay and lesbians included as well as mixed race marriages,I was also brought up at a time when any of these would have gotten all killed,so I have had a hard time excepting these lifestyles, but I don't cause any problems for them iether now,but one thing to remember, while it may seem more people are excepting this, for many, their true feelings are hidden because the law has made it ,so that if you do say anything,it is illegal and you get busted for speaking up. people are beeing forced to except something they have been brought up to hate and destroy if possible, don't take it for granted, that hatred is gone,it is just hidden and does cause mental breakdowns.

Hi there Rzelikman! There are several countries where gays and lesbians are not yet accepted. Perhaps in due time. But definitely not that soon. There are conservative communities that stand their ground when it comes to issues with regards to lesbians and gays. I personally think that there is nothing wrong with them. I do have lesbian and gay friends and I think that they are perfectly fine. But of course, that's just me... I do not know exactly how other people feel about them.

I just wrote a thread on this very same thing. I can see that for the most part, people are becoming more and more accepting as they should. Still there are a lot of religious ones that are downright cruel when it comes to things like this and also many that are just judgemental. There was a time when a black person could not marry a white person and that has changed over time. I do think with more awareness that eventually it will be commonplace for most people and that gay people will be able to marry and walk the streets without fear of being verbally or physically attacked. I have much faith that love and compassion will win over hate and viciousness.

I agree with you,gay and lesbian couples are not accepted in this world, which is really sad, because everyone is created equal, and people should have a choice of who they want to be with, and no one should be able to say they are wrong for something that is their choice and no one else's.

OMG! I'm so happy to finally read a post like yours. I get so sick of people saying that homosexuality is an illness or whatever. You're right, gays are not accepted and it's a disgrace! I have many gay/lesbian friends who are very normal people. Probably more normal than I am. I think it will take some time, but they are becoming a little more accepted in certain places. I think we all just need to wake up and realize that people are people and that's just the way it is!

I don't think that they are totally accepted in society today. Maybe in the next few years people would be more open minded and will soon realize that they are no different from us and soon they will accept gay and lesbians.

I live in the UK and over here it seems that there are more people accept gay/lesbian couples than the people who don't. I feel very strongly that 'they' should be accepted in all societies as people should be able to do what they like when it comes down to their sexuality. Nobody has the right to say who somebody can/can't sleep with.

I think this WILL take many years of hard work for any gay and lesbian groups. they have to fight harder...Yes laws can be changed...But cultures and religion is a totally different subject wish is one of the main reasons why gays and lesbians anre not accepted. Its a sad thing, but true.

I think they are beginning to be accepted but they have a very long way to go. I wish that more couples who are not in the mainstream view would be accepted. I have been in a interracial relationship for nearly 20 years. A few decades earlier this would have gotten both of us killed. We have dealt with a lot of violence because of it. Even today we have problems at times. But I love him and he loves me and our children have learned to deal with ignorance and stupidity from both my race and his. It makes you stronger that's for sure.
