Bursitis in my Shoulder

United States

I just wanted to tell you guys I can't type much tonight. My shoulder is hurting so bad I could cry. I took sone ibuprofen and have a heating pad on it. Is there anything else you know of that will help it feel better? I don't know how I'm going to sleep tonight. Last night was terrible. I worked today and now it's worse. That's all I can type with one hand. Thanks.

Hi momalisa, I'm sorry to hear about that pain..I have not experienced that and have no idea what's best...Let's hope someone here will be able to provide you with tips on how to minimize the pain and how to get rid of that!

momalisa hi I had bursitis in my shoulder and I took motrin and aleve, but whatreally helped with most wet hot towels on it and a massage from my dear husband. Ihad had whiplash in that shoulder and I would get these muscle spasms and he would massage my shoulder hard, oh it hurt but soon the muscles sort of unclenched and the hurting really did stop.If your bursitis does not get better you really should see your doctor as there might be something else that would really help you. good luck.

Well you're doing pretty good lefty. You might try some Aleve. It last a little longer than Advil.

no, i'm typing with my right hand....just not using both and it's taking long and i have to look at the keys which is making me dizzy and it's too hard to hit the cap/shift button. Advil's been doing ok. I dont have any money to buy something else...and I had to stay off work today. I've been taking 2 every 4 hours. The doctor said i can take 3 or 4 every 6 or 8 hours. i can't imagine it lasting that long....just because you take more at the same time, wouldn't they all still wear off in about 4 hours? How do the extra two know to hang around for 4 more hours??

I may have bursitis or arthritis now, ,my shoulder started out as a frozen shoulder a few years ago. I had cortisone shots and therapy as I could not even hook my own bra. Fast forward a few years, I can move but after using it a get pain andn can honestly say there are very few days I do not have pain. I know it is getting bad as my fingers sometimes get numb ( that was the beginning of it before). So I will be off to the orthopedist again. Hopefully I will ge the shots again, that helps so much. But for daily pain, icy hot cream works the best. Sometimes Aleve ( Naproxin sodium) does help, asprin or tylenol does not.

Oh you poor thing. I cannot stand it any longer!! The Dr. I went to this morning wants me to have an MRI to be sure what is wrong. And physical therapy. I was waiting all day for them to call and tell me when the appointments are. They never called, and I wanted to be on the road to recovery instead of wasting a day! They gave me tylenol with codeine. I hope I can sleep tonight. At least my arm is in the DOWN position today. Yesterday I had to hold it UP all day and night! Thanks for your suggestions.

Hey Barbie, I was looking through the discussions because I remembered someone saying they got cortisone shots. I just got one yesterday. But I don't feel any different yet. Did it take awhile to feel better for you?

Sometimes It may take more than one shot. After the shot I could move my arm, something I coud barely do before that. I went a few weeks later for another one and then had full range of motion. The pain took awhile to subside, but to me being actually able to put own my own bra was a big relief. I went for therapy after that.

Sorry you aren't feeling good. The shoulder can really be a problem. I've been having a little problem with my left one when I go to bed at night if I put any pressure on it getting in bed. I haven't had it checked but had thought it might be a touch of bursitis. I have no idea to tell you what to do for it. I've seen my Dad about cry with his. I do remember him going to get a shot for it once. I would do what you did - take Ibuprofen or Fast Acting Extra Strength Tylenol, hot pad and go to bed. Hope you are feeling better tomorrow. Pain isn't funny.

Barb, that's how mine started. At night it would get 'frozen' and I couldn't move it in the morning. That went on for years and would eventually work it's way back to normal through the day. Just recently it started staying that way and the pain kept getting worse. This is the worst it's ever been. I want to thank everybody now, because I am typing so slow with one hand, and cannot reply to everyone today. I went to the doctor this morning. (I hardly slept at all last night and cried most of the night.) She's scheduling me for an MRI to see if anything is torn, and also sending me to phisical therapy. I'm just sitting here waiting for them to call and tell me when my appointments are. I can't do much else.

I hate you are in pain. Hopefully, you can get in to get the test early and get something done for it. I know my sister-in-law had the frozen shoulder which, along with other complications, made her have to retire from work a few years ago. She went through months of therapy and still has to go occasionally. It has to be a painful situation. Do you think all our computing has something to do with the shoulder becoming that way?

All my computing might be the problem? I hope not!! Lol. Naaaa...I only spend a couple hours each evening on the computer. I spend 10-12 hours working on the days I work. And I overdid the yard work last week on my day off. That's about when this started and gradually kept getting worse. When my friends call and ask if they can do anything for me I say "Can you Shoot me?" Lol.

Bursitis is so painful, I know! I don't have much more suggestion than to just continue with the ibuprofen. When I have really bad pain, I alternate between ibuprofen and tylenol every 2 hours, i.e. 2 tylenol now, 2 ibuprofen 2 hours from now, 2 tylenol 2 hours from then, etc. It's perfectly safe since the they have 2 different active ingredients. It's what my doctor has suggested when the pain is unbearable. I hope you feel better soon!

I don't really know bursitis. But as you have described it, it seems to be full of pain. I hope you get well soon momalisa. I am praying for your good health. I hope it is not serious. I have just read that bursitis with infection are harder to treat. Maybe you should take a lot of rest. And maybe you can follow falconjetter's advice on taking pain killers. Get well soon!

Hope you're feeling better soon! Whenever I've had shoulder pain, my doctor's recommended that I have someone ACE bandage my arm across my body and wrap the shoulder so that there's some pressure and the joint is immobilized. That's the only way I slept the last time my rotator cuff was acting up. I hope you're able to get some sleep and the pain eases some! Being in pain is a very special misery.
