Do we really have to choose the best response?

Not that I don't want to. But sometimes you can't single out one response as the best as you like most of them. (I do) And somehow, choosing the best response would make the other responses not good (indirectly at least). Do we really have to choose?

The Best Response is just a way to make everything more interesting. It is not mandatory, but whenever possible it is a nice thing to do. It does draw people back to your discussions not just to get a B. R. but because it brings a discussion up because it attracts more interesting writers. That is what you are really aiming for isn't it? To attract interesting folks who write well. Folks who write more than one or two sentences and then expect to be rewarded in some fashion. A B.R. for one person is not a put down for the rest of the folks. It is just a little boost for one person. I have seen discussions go on for a month after a B.R. has been awarded and no one seemed to notice that it had been awarded they just kept the discussion going anyway, including the person who got the B.R. Just do what you think is best and don't worry about what others think! Shalom~Adoniah

I was kind of concern of the other's sentiments once a best response is chosen. I do hope that it doesn't give them the impression that their reply was not take into consideration or something. Thanks for the response.

I think you don't need to do that always. i give a best response if I feel that the post really deserve it. My criteria for giving the best response is the ability of the message to relay to my post. If my post is a query about something and the response gave me a detailed and informative message, then I would mark that post as the best response. Giving a best response is not a necessity but it is also an indicator of participation. myLot pays us for participation, right? So if you want to increase your earnings, then choosing a best response is a must. By the way, if you do not want to give a best response, you could rate him as positive. Rating other comments or response is also another way of participation.

I guess I would do just that, give the response a rating while I haven't chosen my best response yet. I didn't know they are also part of the participation. Thanks for the info shintong23!

I think it's possible to leave a discussion open for months if you want. Sometimes a discussion of mine will attract dozens of responses and it's hard to choose just one. In those cases, I leave it open. And when I mark best response, I give an extra big compliment to the runner up responses.

Thanks for the tip beautyqueen26! Maybe that's what I should do, so far my discussions are still open. They are still few, so I believe I won't have a hard time catching up on them. Thanks for the response!

Of course we don't have to. Sometimes, though, one response stands out, and that is the best, so it should be acknowledged.

Well, that's a great relief. Because I've read somewhere that it takes forever for some lotters to choose the best response. That's why I thought it was mandatory. Thanks for the response.

It's not a compulsion, but giving out a best response, gives the person who is responding an impression that the discussion starter really cares about the discussion and reads them all, instead of just starting a discussion for the sake of starting. And yeah as you mentioned it there are sometimes which have very good responses, then you would have to choose and it would be hard. If I were in such a situation, i'd give out my best response to a person who has given a good responses and is just starting with myLot. That would give them encouragement and a satisfaction that someone rally reads what they are typing and understands. bourne

That's very considerate of you bourne! Giving encouragement to newbies (like me), that would surely give them (I mean us) the boost to participate more in the discussions. Thanks for the response!

You do not have to. I don't always, but everyonce in a while I will go back through the discussions and try to give the best response. Sometimes I know it is had and I don't do those.

Thanks baileycows! It's really hard to choose, although one of these days I know I might. But so far, I'm happy with all the response I'm getting. Thanks again. Happy mylotting!

Hello...like you, I am impressed with the way mylotters give reason to their discussions that I sometimes find it difficult to choose the best response. When I have a hard time, I just don't choose one, but I try to pick one when I can. I find it fun and I like it whenever my answer get chosen as the best response, so in return, when someone impressed me with his/her response, I mark that as the 'best response'. That doesn't mean that the rest of the responses were not impressive, it's just that such specific response stood out.

Thanks weng! It's not really an easy task choosing the best response, as people here are quite insightful and gives no-nonsense answer to every discussion. That's why I'm loving it here, I'm learning a lot. Thanks for the reply.

I kind of wish more people would. Not to be egotistical or anything, but sometimes I feel I might have given a really good answer but I do not get the best response. Oh well. :]

Thanks for the response rampancy. But I kind of wondering, if one answer was chosen as the best answer, how would the others who answered the same discussion feel, knowing that they have given quite a good response. I'm curious about that.

What is this best response thing you're talking about?

Hi planejane! Well, it's where you choose one among your discussions started which response was the best for you. You can see the link 'mark as best response' at the upper portion of every response box. Thanks for dropping by!
