What's your favorite vegetable for cooking?

My favorite veggies for cooking are onion and squash. With those two ingredients, I could make almost any healthy dish, assuming that I had a full stocked pantry of spices. I love mixing those two veggies with pork, chicken or fish recipes. They work with just about everything. What are your favorite vegetables for cooking?

Let me know how it goes, and I'll put mushrooms on the grocery list. I'm down to bare shelves right now, so it's definitely grocery day!

I think my favourite would have to be avacado and tomatoe for a meal that requires no cooking. For a meal that requires cooking then it would have to be mushroom and onion..Im so hungry now..

I love potatoes and garlic. I would have said onion before my husband came along but he has such a severe hatred of onion that he cannot eat it at all. I love garlic as my substitute for onion - and it is good for my health too. Potatoes are a great versatile vegetable that you can eat in so many ways, baked, boiled, mashed, fried in scollops, made into chips, crisps, potato soup, potatoes in soup whole or diced or even in a bubble and squeak. I am sure there are many other ways that I can't think of now. Potatoes with garlic on them - now there's an idea!

Garlic, onions, potatoes, and mushrooms are some of my favorites to use in cooking. I use onion in just about everything and since my son will eat potatoes in just about any form I cook a lot of those.

I think that for me it would be tomatoes...unless tomatoes are a fruit this week. I can never keep up with which veggies are fruits and which fruits are veggies. The tomato is so versatile though that it can be used in many dishes regardless of what country made that dish popular.

I think they count as both. Tomotoes are so good in chilli and soups, too! Very healthy.

Tomatoes are great. I think that I like them as good raw as I do cooked. I especially like tomato sandwiches.

There is no specific favorite vegetable that I always use in my cooking. I love to eat vegetables, any will do. But one thing for sure is every time I cook,I will always include onion in the food. Onions make the food more delicious especially when I cook soup. Another veggie is celery. Celery is good veggie to mix with lamb and make lamb stew. Together with celery,I will add in carrots, tomatoes and onions. It's really tasted good! Yummy,yummy.....

I do the baked (microwave) potato for every meal. When I have butter, that is. Right now I'm out of butter, so no baked potatoes!

With onions and potatoes, one can make any dish with ginger and garlic paste. Add to that green chillies and celery and then put in any vegetable or non veg and you get a tasty dish with spices. Of course, how can i forget tomatoes.

I agree that onions are very useful. You can include them in just about anything so they're pretty much a staple. I really prefer a variety of veg in anything I cook. I think that's what gives things a nice flavour, so other than onions I'd find it hard to pick out a particular favourite. What I really likes is coming up from the garden with a bagful of whatever it ripe and making a meal from what's available.

I like cooking with onions, brocolli, cauliflower and carrotts. Those are my favorites. They go great with chicken or beef. They are excellent to use in stir frys. I like to use them for making chicken or beef terriaki. The mixtures of the veggies adds color and crunch!

My favorite would be garlic. onion and carrots. The first two add all the necessary flavor to the dish while the third one gives it more visual appeal to the dish. Actually all the dishes also become more filling if we add vegetables like carrots. Also almost all the things that I could cook contains at least two of these three.

I think my fave is onion. I use it with everything.. I love garlic, but I'm not sure that's a veggie!
