some of the patients doesn't want to be assisted in taking their routine bathing or some of their personal hygiene's..some are shy and some just wanted to do those things by their own or be assisted by their closest relatives..but we sometimes insist to help and some are very glad of our help..do you guys want us nurses to help you or not? why?

hi kaez kulet I had to ask the nurses to help me when I had my left arm in a sling after shoulder joint surgery as I usually used my left hand to open milk cartons and season food, and lift my bevrage glass up. they were all very kind about helpingme tooso there was no problem. the last time i was in the hospital ihad bleeding diverticulitis and dirrahea from it and to be put in adult diapers so asking the nurses to change my disgusting diaper was humiliating indeed but I had to ask. I used to work as a nurses aid and I always asked if there was anything more i could do before I left the room.

Well, in December last year, I was confined in St. Luke's Medical Center. I was rushed to the emergency room and I was at the Stroke Unit (ICU) for 2 days. There were so many gadgets on me and thus my movement is limited. During the first hours, I was still find but I got weaker and weaker until it came to a point that I need help just to sit up. I appreciate what the nurses are doing. They are there to really take care of me. For the personal things, I really needed help especially during the 1st day. Well, I don't have my family with me since they aren't allowed inside. As long as I can see that the nurse does his/her job by heart, I'd appreciate it more.

On things that are beyond my capacity and knowledge to perform, I always ask the Nurse's help. Taking a bath and other personal matters are always done on our own but on matters concerning the gadgets attached to our patient, we always ask the nurse to do.

yes of course 'coz if you won't ask for our help in those stuffs it might get malfunctioned..like those IV fluids those are timed and needs not to be operated by those who do not have knowledge in regulating such..

It is their rules and responsibilities being a nurse and they are paid doing such activities. I will ask their assistance when I or my family was in the hospital. I don't want to waste my time doing such things, yet we have paid somebody to do that. Of course, we are different but for me, I ask their assistance.

Hi kaez...i am a very good patient,i must say.I've been hospitalized for more or less five times.I never ask help if i can do it myself. From bathing, going to the bathroom, anythings as long as i can stand and able to do it.I know it's the nurse's responsibility but as much as possible i don' want to add to this burden.Instead of taking their time maybe they can make use of it to those who need their assistance more...ain't i a good patient?

hahahaha cleaning a patient after they had poopoo is mostly the caregivers work or the nursing assistants but if those two are not available we will be the one to do it but of course we use gloves..

SO far i have not been hospitalised b4.. hehe =D But i will feel quite awkward for a nurse to clean me or bath me.. ANd even though it's my family members to help me bath, i will feel awkward too.. UNless i have no choice, if not i will prefer to keep my privacy to myself.. hehe

If I am able I would rather do it myself. I know they get paid for such things, but as long as I am able I will do for myself. There was a time when i was in the hospital that I had to have assistance, and I accepted it. Sometimes you have to ask for help, I was in a cast once, and it was hard for me to get in and out of the bath tub. I had to ask my son for help, he was young and embarrassed, but he did help me. I also taught him how to braid hair, since I was unable to do my hair. We practiced with strings.
