Do you put mustard or ketchup on a hot dog?

This is something I got into with some of my friends online. Where I come from, whether you put ketchup or mustard on a hot dog is a choice, but apparently some people think ketchup on a hot dog is disgusting and would never dream of doing it. Does anybody else feel that way? I don't get it, if you can put ketchup on a hamburger why not on a hot dog? I tend to prefer ketchup on hot dogs, though it depends on the mood I'm in. Once in awhile I go crazy and use both. :)

I sometimes put ketchup on my hot dogs, but I never put mustard on them. I do not like mustard. I normally eat mine plain or with a little ketchup, but sometimes I go all out and do a chili cheese dog with lots of chopped onion on it. YUM!

Well I have not indulged in a lovely hot dog for time, now you are making me hungary. When I do have hot dog on rare occasion I like mustard on it although it goes up my nose and make my eyes water but I love it.

I can't stand when people put ketchup on hot dogs. I think
it't disgusting too. It's ok on hambergers, but not hot dogs.
Mustard is ok. Personally, I don't use either on my hot dogs.
I don't mind some sauerkraut, but that's it. Everyone has
their own taste, so I just let people eat them whichever
way they want and let me do the same!

I always put Ketchup on my hot dogs everytime I have them. I didn't even know that some people think it's crazy until a little while ago, when someone made a remark to me. To me ketchup and mustard on a hot dog or hamburger is like peanut butter on jelly, it's just goes together! Have a wondeful night!

i add ketchup and i also add a little bit of bbq sauce
it is great. you will get just the right kick to it
or sometimes, i will marinade the hotdogs in bbq sauce and then after i grill them, then i will add just ketchup

I can't eat bbq sauce unless it is cooked onto the meat. To me using it as a dip or topping uncooked is like eating it raw. I know it isn't raw, but I just like that cooked or grilled flavor.

I like both on a hot dog with some relish too. My fiancee doesn't like ketchup and won't buy it so I just have mustard or nothing on my hot dogs.

Do you like ketchup? If you do, you can buy it and your fiance can just not eat it. It wouldn't be fair to not at least have available something the other person likes even if I didn't like it. Ketchup is used in so many recipes also. I am not a big ketchup fan, but I use it occassionally, and I always had to buy it in large quantities because my husband and children loved it. Since this is a fiance and not yet a spouse, make sure you are not being controlled in other areas before you tie the knot. Buying ketchup is such a minor thing and if you do like it but never get it because your fiance won't buy it, well, what about the bigger issues??

I always put ketchup on my hotdogs, I can't imagine having a hotdog without it! I do not like mustard so instead of that I put mayonnaise on my hotdog was well. It's usually a lil bit of onions, ketchup, mayo, and cheese for me!

It seems like ketchup is winning - are any of you from the American south? This is where I hear ketchup is unheard of and they think of it as a northern thing. But it's a Canadian friend who thinks ketchup on a hot dog is disgusting. I feel vindicated after seeing all these responses! :)

you wouldn't believe some of the things i put on my hot dogs.
here's what a hot dog usually looks like on my plate.
one line of mustard, one line of ketchup, one line of relish, one line of honey mustard. two big chunks of cheddar or mozzarella cheese, bacon bits, hot banana peppers, chili, and fried onions.
believe me, it is pretty freakin' messy by the time i'm ready to eat it!
to answer your questions, i do sort of think ketchup is disgusting. i don't eat it on anything BUT hot dogs. for some reason, i seem to think it's okay on a hot dog..but then again..this is coming from someone who thinks hot peppers on a hot dog is delicious :)

Me too. I like to put both ketchup and mustard on my dog. Does it really matter what you put on your dog? I don't think it matters. My neices like to eat their hotdogs with mayo and I have even eaten a BLT dog. It is awsome. If you want to try it all you do it add lettuce, tomato and a slice of bacon. If you want mustard or ketchup on your BLT dog well that's your choice.

I always used to cut up my hot dogs and dip them in ketchup as a child. I didn't like mustard back then, but I love it now. I usually put dijon mustard on my hot dogs, along with ketchup or barbecue sauce. It's been ages since I had a chili cheese dog with onions. I may need to try that again.

I like them with ketchup and I also like mustard. I prefer spicy mustard. I also like chili and even Sauer kraut (but not together). And don't forget the relish!

Usually the only way i will eat a hot dog is on a grill , or fried up . I like mine plain or with cheese . cheese is a nice topping for me , and sometiem chillie . mustard sometimes , but hardly ever ketchup .

I personally do not like Mustard on anything and have always put ketchup on my Hot Dogs along with mayo (if slaw is not available) chili and onions! YUMMY!
