Are women talkative?

I had seen that whenever two women happens to meet at a place, they start gossipping about anything and everything. I keep my observations instinct alert to my neighbour. Their home is frequently visited by people and generally couples visit them. My next door neighbour is a retired military personal and the guests he use to get are generally of his age or almost similar. The males sit quite at the drawing room with pegs of whisky in their hands whereas the women starts gossiping and loughing out the entire evening until I hear the start of the car which was parked at the corridor. I always wonder, why the women talk a lot while man does not as much. Are the women talkative? To be frank, I don't gossip much, still little more than my dad or brother.

Women are by nature more talkative than men, specifically relating to gossip. There is an interesting theory that language was actually selected for as a means of FACILITATING women-women relationships, and that gossip is a tool that allowed for humans to create larger social groups. The ability to discuss someone in their absence is uniquely human, and allows participants to identify social classes and the positions of members in a hierarchy.
Regardless of the WHY women gossip, it is pretty much accepted that they use it as a means of social bonding more than men do, which explains why we are such a chatty bunch!

I have known some men who talk much more than I do. I think it all depends on the person, just like everything else in life! Some women are talkative and some are not; same with men.

I suppose you are right. But, in my locality, generally women are more talkative than man. May be there are some exceptions. The situation may be different in some other corner of the globe. Thanks for your response.

Women have different wiring in their brains then men do and we have different styles of communication. What may look like mindless chatter and gossiping to you is catching up to us and, yes, we're not shy about showing emotions like joy and happiness. Men are generally not as communicative as women. Nothing wrong with it, that's just the way they are.

I was discussing the fact not blamming anyone. Actually, it was my observation and curiosity to know the behaviour. I am little hesitative to express myself but don't dislike others who don't bother to show their actual emotions.

Hey I think it depends on each individual I have seen both man and woman who are talkative...but more is woman i agree.. may be its our natural behaviour...even i do talk a lot if im in a group. but if you ask me to talk with somebody whom i have met recently or whom i dont knw then I think woman wont speak tat much. what do you say.
