Phelps in the Olympics

Great. Phelps has got 11 gold metals. But did you know that he doesn't give much credit to the relay team members. I think he is smug and self centered. Unless someone else has heard him say thanks or great job WE did it then I think he is a jerk. When I was watching last night he didn't say anything about the team. It was I can't believe that I won 11 gold metals. I I I. There is no I in team. If they had gotten a silver would he have taken part of the blame or put it on the other team members?I know I am being critical but I can't help it. He did not do it all on his own. He needs to show some respect to his team mates. Any other thoughts out there? GO USA!!! And CONGRATS to all the olympians.

I really really like him. These days I often tell my friends how deep I like him.I never watched any swimming games in the past, but because of him, swimming is my favourite now.He left China and flew to London very quickly. That makes me feel sad.Because I hope to see him more.I'm Chinese.

Phelps doesn't come off to me as being smug and self-centered. He's just excited from winning each time. He's been a hard worker, earning the medals. I thought he was VERY excited when they had the relay matches. He stood and cheered them all on. To me, that is congratulating them. He could have stood and been silent, but he screamed himself silly. Besides, we don't know how they interact when they are out of the spotlight.

You do have a point. I know he has worked hard to get were he is and there is no way I could ever match up with him.No matter what,he does deserve the metals he has won.

He won another metal last night, too. And, he also congratulated his team mate who one the one in which he didn't participate. Someone from the media congratulated him for being so nice.

In every interview I have ever seen with Michael Phelps he is very clear that he is a team member and I wouldn't be watching if he wasn't because I do not approve of that behavior. In 2004 he gave up his relay spot to Ian Crocker, even though he was entitled to swim the race because he beat Crocker in the individual event he was going to swim relay for. That is acting like a team member as far as I am concerned.

I watched the last relay and changed my opinion of Phelps in a hurry. I saw him thank his team mates and tell them that he could not have doe it without them.I misjudged him and that was my mistake. Thanks for you response.

Yeah Sure that would be great. Would you like to tell me how? I don't have a clue. If I had I would have gotten rid of it days ago.

no one has to respond if they don't want to. I have already expressed that my opinion has changed and I have seen the light. No big deal having this discussion still on here. They will respond or they won't.

michael phelps is not self centered at all. he is actually really humble and doesn't brag at all. he works really hard. he has been training since he was a little kid for the olympics so give the guy some credit. By the way there may not be an I in team but there is a ME in team. How is he supposed to give credit to his teamates anyways. Is he supposed to tell all the reporters " i wouldn't have made it this far if it wasn't for my relay team" uhmm no i didn't think so. Ya they helped win two medals but they didn't help him become the best olympian. he did that without them. so i dont think he has to give much credit to them. its not like he didn't give credit because he did.

Not trying to start an argument over this.It was just something that I saw on tv. I know he has worked hard and I know the team didn't get him to where he is. Yes they did help a little to get him I know 2 of those metals. And a thanks man or good job would not kill him.I am one of those underachievers so I thank anyone who helps me enen in the smallest things. Like I said,he deservs all he has gotten. I am not taking that away from him.
