My New Rescue Cat!

Australia

A couple of weeks ago at work, someone brought a stray cat in. She was skinny, severely dehydrated and not all there mentally. As the night went on, I found myself drawn to her and I gave her lots of cuddles. In the morning I had to call the RSPCA to come and collect her. I knew that given her age and the condition she was in that she'd be difficult to rehome and therefore probably euthanased straight away. I had already called the RSPCA and they were on their way when I just couldn't bear to let her go so I took some blood and ran a couple of tests to see if she had anything really wacky going on. They came out all clear so I said 'I don't care, I'm taking her home!' So I called RSPCA back and told them not to come! My plan was to just let her live out her last days with me. She has turned out to be a wonderful cat but I don't think she's quite as old as what we originally thought...she has put on so much weight and is like a brand new cat. I know there was a reason for me wanting to take the cat. It makes me to feel good that I've given her a second chance at life. I decided to call her Ethel. I don't have any pics of her yet as I've lost my camera but she's a grey/silver tabby.

i don't have kids yet but just like what you've mentioned, having a cat is justl ike taking care of your own child. it is actually. i feed him, i clean hi litter box, i cuddle him and spend much time with him. the feeling is beyond imagination. it is one of the best choices i've made.

that is a very nice story. the cat is lucky for having you and you're lucky for having her as well. my boyfriend has this one black cat. we both love him so much. one day, my boyfriend's mom said that her cat gave birth to 7 kittens. she then asked us if we wanted to have one more cat at home. she will sell the others and give us one. if ever a kitten or more will not have a new owner, just like what you said, will be euthenised for that's the rule here in sweden. scared for the cat's sake, i did take one home. he's now 10 months old, very cuddly, cute and lovable. i did make a good choice for having him home.

She sounds like a little gem. I love cats. Rescue cas are the best kind of cats, becaue you know youare giving a down-on-it's-luck cat a second change. Mine was a rescue cat in a manner of speaking. My friend could not keep him ecause he did not get along with her other cat, and I saved him from having to go to the humane society. He's the best ca in the wold. He's 8 yeas old, and I've had him for 6 yeas.

Awwwwwwwww thats so sweet..I am also a soft touch for poor deserted animals...Some one dropped off Or maybe she was just lost ,not really sure. She just appeared on my porch one day, skinny & looking lost, that was about 6 months ago..Today she is happy ,fat & a very sweet cat.I just call her "straygirl"...I also have my cat, that i have had forever...My cat has been nutered so no worry about babies..Last week believe it or not another pityful looking skinny cat appeared on my porch..I am feeding it & the cat is not scared of me,& it eats as though it is starving..I have not named that one yet because he/she comes & goes, but it is looking better...I am so glad you kept that cat, that was a wonderful & nice thing you did..You were good to Ethel & she has rewarded you by being a good cat..Now this is the kind of things i like to hear...

Well done for rescuing Ethel. I am so delighted that you told the RSPCA to not to come after all. The poor cat was in terrible need of water, care, attention and love. I like the way you still kept her even though when you first had her you thought she was really old. It is wonderful that she has got lots more energy. Silver gray tabby is an attractive color. My mum's cat Tiger was that color and he was a rescue cat that lived to a ripe age. It would be fantastic to see a picture of her when you do find your camera. Good luck.

Thats so wonderful that things worked out the way that they did. My son loves cats. Yesterday he arrived back from California and we went to check the mail. In the mailroom was a sign for a free black kitten. Naturally, he wanted to get it, so I told him to go ahead and call and we too are now the owner of a straggly looking cat. It doesn't look like it was taken care of very well. Its all skin and bones and its got the longest tail I've ever seen. A bit strange I think, but he loves it and thats all that matters and I'm sure he will have her fattened up in no time.

You are just like my brother who adopted astray dog and bring it home. Her name is Lyka. My brother is the one who give her the name. Having pet at home is fun.

Hey coffeeshot! I'm sure God will bless you with more graces for giving the cat a chance to have a life again. Every being has the right to live. You have done such a good deed. I hope you continue to love Ethel more! Ciao!

Cute! I'm glad you kept her. Stray animals need a good family to take them in. There are so many homeless animals these days and they usually are tortured by people or end up getting put to sleep. All of the cats my family has ever had have been strays, a total of 5, but we lost 2 of them. They are just great. I love animals!

Awww - you are so kind taking that poor little cat home with you and giving her a new lease of life. If she is putting on weight, she is obviously very happy and content - you did a wonderful thing for her. I love her name! Hi Ethel - welcome to a wonderful world with coffeeshot as your mum! I'd love to see some pics when you get another camera.

Hi my friend, I'm so glad you kept the poor little kitty. I don't know how you keep away from taking all the strays home that come to the clinic. I know you work with animals but not sure if it's a clinic or not. I am truly an animal lover and with five dogs I guess you figured that out. lol I thought one time that I wanted to volunteer at our local no kill shelter but my husband talked me out it. He just knew that I would be coming home every time with a new addition to our family because I just have such a hard time saying no. I'm sure Ethel will sure appreciate you taking her in. Enjoy!!
